20:00 Qatar v Switzerland

Switzerland

50 WIN

@-454

Open

0

I watched Qatar play Ireland, and I just don't see them having the tools to compete with the Swiss. Swiss are 8 wins, 5 draws, and 1 loss in the last 14, and the loss was a cracking 4-3 defeat to Germany. I think they'll be too strong in Levi's Stadium today

Switzerland & No (Result + BTTS)

The hope for Qatar is that Switzerland have conceded in 5 of their last 6 matches, so there is a chance. But on game day I think it's unlikely and I expect perhaps 2-0 or 3-0.

Not a lot to go on, with perhaps the second favourite shorter than expected. They may think Fred is above average, but he might need to be, with the Mullins favourite who has plenty of winners in the family tree. I'll take Katie Cant Count to get off the mark at the first time of asking.
17:00 Lahti v SJK

Lahti

50 WIN

@+120

Narrow call, but I just landed on the hosts. Perhaps it was more on the basis of SJK's away form. At the start of the season they were averaging two goals conceded in each of their away games.

I landed on Jimlis Cave in this one each way. Down another 2 pounds and maybe this is a workable mark. It has been a long time since Calum Hogan won a race, but he was placed in two of his last five rides, and the 5 lbs helps here. I think they can get in the mix.

At odds against, I just tipped down on the side of the US. Maybe this could be a decent game with lots of players capable of scoring.

On the assumption that the home side make the breakthrough. I'll side with forward Folarin Balogun. The Monaco striker was well into double figures for the season, so 5s is fair as he is the most likely scorer.

I was between USA 2-1, 3-2, or 3-1. I landed on the latter, as maybe home advantage counts here and they turn on the style against a decent Paraguay side.

I'll take a chance on Monaco striker Folarin Balogun going into the book today. With four yellows and a red this season, maybe 6/1 about a card isn't bad against wily Gómez and the sometimes silky Aldrete.

At 13/5 I'll take Juan Cáceres to find his way into the ref's notebook. Eight yellows this season. I think he is fairly priced.

I'll take the 9/4 about Cowardofthecounty here now. That Zodiac Bear has left it a little more open. The 4-year-old hasn't hit the highest of levels after a good 2-year-old campaign. I think there are maybe signs of ability there, with a second last time.

With five places on offer, perhaps one cool-beared might squeeze into the places. It was a pretty abysmal effort here two weeks ago. Maybe putting a line through that, and a further drop of 3 lbs to 60, might bring about a small improvement in an open enough race.

Probably a saver with Reagrove Lord or Watchoutitscookie making more appeal, as each-way plays. But has been freshened up and the champion trainer knows how to prepare. On 85, a workable mark for this 6-year-old.

I was drawn to Reagrove here at 16/1. Yes, the Skelton horse looks very much the most likely winner, but Reagrove ran okay to be 4th last time given it was its first run in over a year. 73 isn't a bad mark and could outrun the odds.

20/1 for old-timer Smackwater Jack seems pretty short. He saved his best race for this course about a year ago when he was 11. Now it's a question of whether there is enough desire and legs in the 12-year-old, as winning off 92 is decent last year when measured against a mark of 81 here. Good racing weight of 10st, so he might outrun his odds.

I will take a second dart at this one in the form of Molto Amici. The Griffin horse has reasonably good form here, with two seconds and a fourth in four runs. I think the failed hurdling expedition might just help focus him on the flat, and the mark is very workable given he placed second here off 2 lb higher. Luke will be hoping to get in the mix here.

Not the original bet here, but the most likely outcome by a distance. Both sides aren't in great form, but the Koreans have the stronger calibre of player, and they were actually the better team in the unfortunate 1-0 loss to Austria. I think they can win this.

South Korea #2-0

I landed on 2-0 to the South Korean side. They just have stronger players, and while T&T have scored in 6 of their last 7, I think this could be a long evening for them. I think they might keep the score down, and so I landed on just 2.

On the assumption that Ecuador make the breakthrough, I'll side with forward Nilson Angulo. The 'black cat' hasn't scored since his move from Anderlecht but has 1 in his last 7 for the national team and gets the start here.

I went with Ecuador to win and Saudi Arabia to get a goal. I was thinking 3-1 and so will stick with that. But there is a niggle: they have won 6 and drawn 11 in their last 17, and in those 17 they have kept 12 clean sheets. This could just as easily be 1-0.
