Two good wins at Navan interspersed with a decent 3rd place at Fairyhouse. Has race conditions to suit here. Well-bred. Yard in form and goes well at the track. Short price but just squeaks an each-way bet.

A drop in grade and better ground make it interesting for Scarface who found Graded company too much last time out. Yard in form, go well at Newbury and race conditions largely in his favour.

Gleneagle Bay finished behind Rhythm King at the end of last season, and the 4lb swing in the former's favor is certainly interesting. Rhythm King is proven going well fresh and likes to get to the front early. Although hitting the post a lot at the moment, the yard is in decent form and at the prices looks a good bet to at least be competitive.

Passing Well

The Eider Handicap at Newcastle is often a key form guide for this race. Passing Well was 3rd in the Eider, nearly 20 lengths behind the re-opposing Knockanore but now with a 16lb swing at the weights in his favor. This race generally isn't one for favorites and with the Snowden yard in good form Passing Well looks a good each way bet to take on the favorite with.

Galopin Des Champs at odds-on isn't a bet but is hard to oppose, it looks like he's largely scared off competitors. Banbridge is classy, won the King George, but not sure he gets the 26 furlongs. Ahoy Senor fell in this race (at the 17th) 2 years ago when leading. He's 10, and 10-year-olds don't have a good record here. First run since wind op, and with questions to be asked about the rest of the field, he makes some appeal at very big odds to fill the places or potentially pick up the pieces if the race falls apart.

Gets the trip, prefers better ground, likes to race from the front and has form in classy hurdle events. Convincingly won 2 Class 2 novice hurdles over 3 miles prior to this and came second in a Grade 2 over shorter prior to those 2 wins.

Mullins is mob-handed in this race, and Lady Vega Allen was 3rd at Leopardstown last time out when making only her 3rd start over hurdles. She faded toward the end of that race but should develop. Well-bred, and the jockey booking is significant.

Going beyond 3 miles should be to the benefit of Westerninthepark, who has run well in a novice event here in November last year. Well-bred and bred for these kinds of distances. The yard is in good form.

Well bred, less exposed chaser running for Venetia Williams' yard who do have a decent record in this race - though perhaps less so recently. Out the handicap but bottom weight with good claimer on board. Gets the trip and ground conditions are fine. Posts a decent speed figure which when combined with the low weight could make it interesting at the business end of this race.

Goes well at Cheltenham, stays the trip, and won the Cleeve Hurdle last time out. The Cleeve is a key form race for this one too. A consistent performer in this grade and the likely pace angle in the race. Could take some pegging back if he gets off the front and at the odds, with 4 places, should be competitive.

French (well) bred, 5-year-old, Authorized mare who is making her first start for Willie Mullins. Good second place on very soft ground in a Listed Novice hurdle event (18 furlongs) in Auteuil before relocating to Ireland. The Joseph O'Brien runner looks more interesting than the Gavin Cromwell horse. Beyond that, it looks pretty open and at the prices, this looks a more interesting play.

Solness has beaten Marine Nationale in his last 2 races - both Grade 1 chases at Leopardstown. There's a lot of pace in this race but front runners are often rewarded. If they don't get racing too early then Solness should be competitive and is a decent each way price to be there or thereabouts with Jonbon.

Stellar Story definitely gets the trip and went down a neck to Better Days Ahead last time out. Level weights mean a 5lb swing in favor of Stellar Story, which should be enough to account for that neck defeat. Ballyburn is a solid favorite but there's no value in the price. Stellar Story is twice the price of Better Days Ahead and off level weights looks the each-way play.

On the stats, the last 21 winners of the Challow have been beaten in this race. It's a stat that will go bust at some point but it makes the short price on The New Lion completely avoidable. Thirteen of the last sixteen winners have come from the top 2 BHA rated runners, at 6/1, that makes The Yellow Clay a more appealing wager to take on Final Demand. The yard targets this race, having also won 2 of the last 7 runnings.

Lossiemouth kind of skews this race. She fell last time out, and this wasn't her original target. At odds on, she has the ability to take this race but not a bet. Jade De Grugy is 4 wins from 5 over hurdles. Finished 4th in last year's Ryan Air Novices Hurdle. Got squeezed for room in that race, though bounced back to take a Grade 1 Novice and a Grade 3, both in Ireland. If Lossiemouth isn't at her best, then Jade De Grugy squeaks an each way bet.

5-year-olds have a very poor record in this race. While Majborough might be very long odds-on to take it, there is no value in the bet. Recently, Gavin Cromwell has been hitting the post a lot with his runners but he has a good record at the course. Only By Night is 3 from 3 over fences, including winning decent-looking Graded and Listed events. The 7 lbs mare's allowance could be the extra edge needed here and I believe the odds underestimate her chances.

A decent each way price to take on the Mullins runner at the top of the market. Won a Grade 1, 2-mile, Novice Hurdle last time out by 9 lengths. Well-bred and trainer in form. Unbeaten horses don't have the greatest record in this race, and 6-year-olds tend to outperform 5-year-olds.

Race looks open and Bretney may have a little to find in terms of class but has conditions to suit. Got it done over 4 miles at Kelso last year. Winning by 10 lengths from a rating of 120. Now rated 6lbs higher and a class up but with a useful 3lb claimer on board. Should be more competitive than the current odds suggest.
