Win

35

Belvedere Blast's seven hurdle wins have all come at Hexham or Market Rasen. However, he has finished 3rd at this course twice in three starts. Six wins came on good ground, and his best record is at around today's trip. His latest start came just over a week ago after a 158-day break, and he is entitled to have come on for that run, which was over CD. He is now 4 lb below his last winning mark and has the assistance of Brian Hughes today, who has won on him before. He has plenty going for him today to make the 17/2 on offer good each-way value.

Zephlyn has just had five starts over hurdles (four last year), and two of those runs showed he has enough ability to do well in races at this level. His best run was at Newcastle, 2m, in April last year when coming from way off the pace to take 2nd in a better race than today's. That form has been well franked. He only returned to hurdles in April this year on his penultimate start and was put over 2m4f at Perth. He ran well, but the trip proved too far for him. His run on the flat a fortnight ago was no disgrace, and he will be sharp for today dropped back to 2m. There looks sure to be plenty of pace on, and that will suit the 7yo.

Hurricane Bay ran well here in April over 3m but did not see the trip out well and is better at today's distance, as he proved next time when winning over 2m4f (good) at Huntingdon. He was then PU after that on his latest start at Fakenham in a Class 3 after reportedly making a respiratory noise. The same thing happened last year when, after winning, he was PU for the same reason over 3m and then was dropped back in trip and down in class and went in again. So there is every chance he will be right for today, and with Bet365 offering a 3-place payout he is good each-way value in this.

Hurst Hill had his second run after a break last time at Fontwell over a shorter trip than today's and met plenty of traffic problems from the turn in and up the home straight. He stayed on well enough, but the trip looked a bit sharp for him now, and he has always looked the type to do better over further. He will be aided by a return to this track, where he has won before, and by the step up in trip today. Ground is no issue, and with no fitness doubts he offers some value for the win at around the 4/1 mark.

Both these sides are going to want to avoid defeat in their opening game, and for them it may be more important than taking chances in looking for the win. The Czechs are the more in-form side currently, but Korea are capable enough, and if either side scores they will more likely try to hold it than go for more. That will leave whoever goes behind with more of the ball and more opportunities. Both sides are good enough to get one if going behind, and should it be level with 20 minutes to go, it is likely to stay that way.

Raffles Nobu, after stopping quickly and being pulled up at Uttoxeter on his penultimate start, ran a much better race last time over a trip that was a big test of his stamina, and he only faded late on. He drops back to 2m today. His previous run over 2m on good ground was in November last year at Kempton, in a Class 4 off a 17 lb higher mark than today. Plenty of winners came from that race, and with what appear to be optimum conditions today, a repeat of that run would see him make the frame at least.

Opening games at the World Cup are not well known for goals. However, with one of the host nations ??" who put five past Serbia last week ??" taking the stage tonight against South Africa, who have not won in their last five games, we should see Mexico attack from the outset as demanded by their supporters. While they may leave gaps at the back that could be exploited, they can outscore South Africa tonight.

Mexico, as one of the host nations, look strong enough to win tonight based on their 5-1 win over Serbia last week. Fans will demand more of the same. Mexico should prove too much for South Africa, who have not won in their last five games but did score in four of them. With Mexico likely to be attacking from the word go, they will leave gaps and South Africa can get a goal. They are, however, likely to be done for quality, and Mexico are taken to outscore them.

Kylenoe Dancer has not had much racing in the last three years, with just four starts, yet gained a CD win and two solid third places in those. Connections have been patient with her throughout her career. Her last race at Worcester saw the 8-year-old put in a good run against a rapid improver. She should come on for that first completed start in a year, and this race is a little weaker on paper. This looks a winning opportunity, and 11/2 offers value for the win.

Well Willya, a course winner at this unique figure-of-eight track and second here on another occasion, was unlucky not to be a lot closer last time. He was badly hampered at the fifth when well in touch, and it cost him momentum and about eight lengths. He had to work hard to get back into things and did well to keep on for fourth. That was his second run back following a year off, and the eight-year-old grey should prove even sharper today. He acts on the ground and won't mind if there is any rain. He gets plenty of weight from most of his rivals in this, and looks sure to run his race. With five runners, the 8/1 offers fair each-way value considering he looks capable enough to win.

East Eagle did not seem suited by the Hexham track on his last two starts but still ran his race. The CD winner is more suited to a flat track like he has today, as he showed at Stratford in April, winning easily. The handicap mark is only 5 lb higher for that 9-length win, and the usual rider returns with his 3 lb claim, making the consistent 6??'yo on a very fair mark. Returned here today, he looks very capable of running a big race, and 12/1 EW with a 4-place payout offers good value.

Scriabin returns to handicap company after being set a tough task in a maiden last time out. The 6yo has been learning the game and has shown a liking for this track. He has been running well on good and on good to soft here in slightly more competitive events than today's. There is no reason to think he won't run his race again today, and with a few rivals on career-high marks this looks like an opportunity for him. The current 12/1 offers some fair each-way value in this contest.

Similar Story has gone well over CD before on good when a close 2nd and won next time out in 2024. She remained in fair form until March 2025, running off much higher marks than she is today. She then had 252 days off. Since then she has had 10 starts, most of which had genuine excuses such as ground, trip, class or non-completion. The last two starts have seen a bit more from the 8yo; however, both were over 3m and she has a better record at today's 2m4f on good ground. Her penultimate run in a Class 4 at Kelso was off 4 lb higher. The drop in trip and class today would see a repeat of that performance put her bang there. The latest run saw her up there until the last two when the 3m trip and slower ground took its toll and she was allowed to come home in her own time. This looks the 8yo's best opportunity for some time.

Two runs that followed rebuilt his confidence before having a 157-day break. He returned to action a month ago in a Class 3 and looked as though he would benefit from the outing. Malangen was not too far behind Fine Point last time, and on today's weights with the longer trip has a very good chance of reversing that form. The 11yo likes to go from the front, and if on song today could catch his rivals out in this, with the rider's 5 lb claim aiding the cause. A price of around 7/1 allows a good each-way (EW) small-stake bet in this contest, as the CD winner has enough about him to leave a lot of these well behind.

Poor Old Mackley is only 7 yo and returns to chasing off a 5 lb lower mark than he is over hurdles. He has won here before and has only been out of the first three in one out of four chases. Weighted to reverse form with Culligran at this time last year when riders' claims were considered, with a fair few principals needing a career-best run to prevail today, he offers some each-way value. Early birds would have got 25/1 about this. Now around 12/1 which is still good value.

Bells of Ufford came back from 3 months off to run well at this trip on good to soft at Chepstow in March. Badly hampered at the last, he stayed on again well. Two runs prior to that were on slow ground when he was pulled up and tailed off. His start before those came at this course over 2m on good, when he stayed on well. The 2m4f today looks sure to aid his cause. He is on a fair mark judged on previous form, and the 6-y-o point winner looks capable enough to test the Skelton favourite. Cogital ran well over hurdles in March after three months off and has since been given two runs on the AW, so has no questions over fitness on return to this sphere. The 11-year-old has won over CD, and Atkins is back on board. He can claim his 5 lb this time. Goes well on good but also has form on good to soft, so no problem if some rain falls. The hurdle run in March has got a bit of depth about it, and a repeat of that today would be good enough to at least make the frame. The double-figure odds make him a worthy each-way investment.

Belladinotte won well over C&D in April following a return from a break, backing up what was an overall progressive 2025. Her only two below-par runs last year were when in season once and made a respiratory noise in the other. She didn't show when last seen a month ago at Hexham and, whilst no reported reason, she was under a different rider and was never really put into the race. He has only been upped to this sort of trip since September last year when winning at Market Rasen over 2m5f (good) and appeared as if he could do even better at this trip. He has had some very tough tasks in better races since that win, and today's race looks much more of a realistic opportunity for him. He runs well here and has his favoured good ground. In what is a very open-looking contest, Crebilly is a horse that is notably dropped in class today and is now on a career-low handicap mark for hurdles. The lightly raced 9yo showed signs in his last race in March that he still had a bit about him. Despite finishing 5th, beaten 17l, he went well enough for a long way against rivals all rated higher than anything he faces today. Two of his three wins were at RH tracks, which he has today. The 7yo Irish raider comes from a yard that does well here, 14/24 runners have finished first three (inc 4 wins). He has gone close in 3m points on good and also 2m6f on good at Thurles. Todays step back up in trip and return to hurdling could easiy see him bounce back after his last run over fences and he offers EW value at 10/1 or bigger (currently 12/1 in places) in a race that on paper he is good enough win.

He came back in Feb this year after a layoff and, after getting that run under his belt, had a clear chance of winning at Hereford in March, until unseating his rider at the last. His next and latest start was at Fakenham over a marathon 3m 5f. He ran well but did not see it out as well as the winner, who won next time out as well. The drying ground is ideal for the 8yo here. Last time the trip stretched him, so dropping back to 2m4f today at a track he ran well at last time should see him ban there come the business end of the race, and 6/1 offers good value for the win.

King Of The Story won all three of his last completed starts before having five months off, then returned with a good staying-on effort at Fontwell over 2m 3f (good) three weeks ago. The lightly raced 10-year-old showed he still has plenty of ability and is likely to have benefited from that run. This race lacks much strength in depth, and just a little improvement from that latest run would be enough to see him win here. With only one or two real dangers, he offers some good value for the win at 13/2.

Getaway Glory proved to be a consistent chaser in 2024 before having to take over a year off the track. His four runs since have been uninspiring, yet there were genuine excuses for them (ground/fitness and a hurdles race). He has since had wind surgery and comes back today following a 50-day break. He has gone well fresh before and has a good record at this track. Cheekpieces are reapplied, and his handicap mark has dropped considerably. Should he return to anywhere near his form from 2024 today, then he has strong place claims at least. Double-figure odds offer some each-way value.

Grey Skies, a 10-year-old, was in good form last summer, winning two at this sort of trip on good ground before running respectably at Worcester when third. The two runs that followed were both on slower ground and are forgiven. The grey then had a five-month break before returning to Hereford last time and looked in need of the run. He is back to his last winning mark, and the blinkers go back on. No surprise if he goes from the front today, and in doing so he could catch them out if fully wound up. He has enough going for him to rate the 28/1 as each-way value.

Similar Story ran better than her finishing position suggests last time out over 3m on good ground at Kelso. That was a clear improvement on recent form for the 8-year-old. The previous five starts saw her complete only twice, one from well out of the handicap. She has dropped to a workable mark, 10 lb lower than her last winning one. If she builds on that last run, she has a better chance than the odds suggest in this race.

I Am Spider Man came back to form six days ago on his second run following a three-month break on good ground at Newton Abbot (3m 2f). That backed up his fair effort at Taunton in December (3m, good), with the two runs in between being on much slower ground. With the ground forecast as good again for this, he looks sure to run his race. His wins in Ireland were at Sligo, a sharp right-handed track, so he should get on well here. As the current outsider of the five runners, he looks good value for the win, with a repeat of his recent effort likely to be enough.
