Macedonian makes only his second appearance on turf. He made his debut in a Newmarket maiden last year, with a very good second-place finish behind the easy winner who holds a 2,000 Guineas entry. Since then, he has only raced on the AW, getting off the mark on his penultimate run with a last-stride victory at Kempton. He failed to back that up next time but was drawn wide. The trainer's only runner here today, and the stable has an excellent record at Ripon, with a 31% winning strike rate overall at the track and a 50% strike rate over this CD.

Serengeti Sunrise won on the AW on second start as a juvenile for previous handler but has done precious little since, including 7 runs since moving to Ireland. Handicap mark is vastly reduced since his opening mark, as a result of some poor efforts. This will be his first start on heavy going and this could be key to a return to form. He is related to a number of winners, including being a full brother to multiple winning mare Ventura Flame, who won two of her three runs on heavy ground.

Lincoln's Inn is the rag in this race, and given her recent form, that's to be expected. But at least you are getting a decent price while taking a risk with this filly. She is yet to make the frame in 7 runs to date, and in two runs last year and one this year, has barely beaten a rival. As a juvenile, she had three quick runs in succession and showed definite promise but ran like in need of a break when 9th of 11 on handicap debut. All her three subsequent runs have been on the back of long breaks. Today marks her first run without a layoff since her juvenile good runs at Newc and Wolves. She should strip fitter today, and with her handicap mark in decline, it would be no surprise if she outran her big odds, judged on her initial 2yo form.

Failed to back that up on the subsequent run and was given a break and gelded over the winter. Could be the type to do well this year as his pedigree suggests he should be an improver from 2 to 3.

Gunlock started off with a couple of good runs for Karl Burke, finishing runner-up on debut. Then he won his maiden on the second start, both over a mile at Newcastle. He has a much better draw today.

Tiny Angel had three runs in her first season, didn't show a great deal. Last year, she had three more runs, showed a bit more promise, and her final run back in August of last year was her best effort so far. She has been off for 8 months, so her fitness has to be taken on trust. But if she is fit and ready to go, she could easily provide a bit of a shock. She is related to a couple of dual hurdle winners, and in her final run of last year, she finished 6th of 15. Only a few from that race have run this year, but they have boosted the form of that race, with the 3rd, 5th, and 7th all winning this season.

The latest run wasn't a bad effort, and if she improves on that, running in first-time cheekpieces, she could be capable of a big run here. Picked up by Peter Niven for £50K at the August sales but has only shown bits of form. As a result, his handicap mark is down 20 lbs from its high mark. Finished off last year with a couple of modest AW runs after a wind operation and has been rested since. Returns from almost 4 months off, but he could be worth the risk. She has had 4 runs over a mile on the AW, all from at least 21 lb higher marks, and ran well enough in all four starts. Off her current mark, she is well handicapped, and if able to transfer that AW form to the turf, she should be capable of making her presence felt in what looks like a wide-open handicap. It's often said that horses have been laid out for the Grand National. That certainly looks the case with Intense Raffles. This horse was a three-time winner in France and in the first three starts in Ireland for Thomas Gibney, he won two small field novice chases. Then he took to the big stage and went on to land the Irish Grand National. Taking into account he was an inexperienced 6-year-old, that was a cracking effort. His program for this season has been two hurdles races. Then, latest, he ran second in the Bobbyjo Chase (a race that last year's National winner I Am Maximus won before landing the big race in 2024). At the age of 7, he is still open to further improvement and, with a clear run, should go close.

The Goffer last won a race back in February of 2023, but that was a Grade A chase at Leopardstown, from a pound higher mark for which he went up 11 lbs in the weights. He has struggled since that win, mostly in better company, but has recently been running better in cross-country races. Had his first start for Mike Murphy the following month, over 7f at Wolves. He was hampered and only finished 7th of 11. While that looks a modest effort, that race saw the winner well handicapped, and many have come out and either won or run well since, making that run look stronger than it may appear on paper. In recent years, the more fancied runners have been winning, and most recently, it's been the younger of those runners. No doubt the easing of the fences has played its part. That said, we have seen three big-priced winners over the past 14 runnings, with 50-1, 66-1, and 100-1 shots winning, two of those being 9-year-olds. Frere Darmes is only an 8-year-old and having his first start over these fences. His jumping hasn't been great over park fences, but if he takes to these fences, he could put in a good showing.
