At big odds, I'm minded to have an each-way tickle on Gordon Elliott's Western Fold, who is clearly on the up. Now going for a hat trick after winning a beginners' chase at Tipperary before traveling smoothly to win the Mayo National. He is fairly lightly raced for a 6-year-old and may progress enough to shrug off his 10 lb penalty to contend.

I'm a fan of Natalia Lupin, who has a small stable, but she punches well above her weight. Her runner here, DUNUM, has won 2 of his 6 wins at this course and has performed with great credit in both runs at this festival, winning off a mark of 93 in 2023 and finishing third in the Premier Hcap. He will be primed for this after a few lacklustre runs, and a big run is expected.

I do like Kelpie Grey here, and he should go close. But I think the value may lie with 3-time C&D winner JKR Cobbler. He ran well on reappearance to win over C&D in a nice fashion but looked very lacklustre on the next outing at Carlisle. However, that was after a 3-day break, and it may have come too soon. He has since had almost 3 weeks off, so may prove to be a different animal today. At double-figure odds, he could reward each-way thieves.

The twice-raced Wozniak makes plenty of appeal here. She has broken slowly in both outings. Despite that, she won the first time of asking in decent style. She also met interference in the second race but still finished third, albeit beaten 4 and a half lengths. That experience could be invaluable here, so if breaking smartly this time, she has to go close.

I'm going for a very speculative one here as William Haggas has been knocking in a few winners lately. This one, ART LOVER, has only had one run which was in May at York. He was very slow into stride and wandered about a bit. He is a well-bred type and the extra distance today is more suitable. On his latest run, he folded very tamely in a poor run last time, but that could very well have been the ground/track. He wouldn't be the first handicap debutante to put a miserable last run behind him. The trainer has a good record with 3-year-old handicappers and could outrun massive odds.
