Kel Histoire

Daily Racing

50 WIN

Willie Mullins has a big team for this race. Many of them had entries elsewhere, but Kel Histoire was always intended to come here. He impressed in the race last time out until hampered at the fourth last and would have got much closer to the eventual MGM winner Storm Heart otherwise. Willie Mullins knows how to win this race, having done so with Galopin des Champs among a few others in the past.

The main selection for this race is Kel Histoire, but Wendrock is worthy of each-way consideration. This looks like the trip he needs, but he hasn’t had that many opportunities. When he did get to run over 2m4f at Leopardstown two races ago, he was left with far too much to do by the jockey. With a better ride, he stands a solid chance here.

Gaelic Warrior

It is a sign of the quality of this year’s Gold Cup that there are nine horses in it who have won races at Cheltenham, and a lot of them won’t get a mention here. The Jukebox Man has won each of his last four races, culminating in the King George at Kempton over Christmas, where he beat Gaelic Warrior and Jango Baie. Gaelic Warrior’s owner won the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday with Lossiemouth and is tipped to complete a big double here. The horse hasn’t won since its first appearance this season, but will have been trained for this race all season, knowing Willie Mullins’ modus operandi. As a winner of the Arkle, Gaelic Warrior belongs to the nine horses mentioned before, and crucially The Jukebox Man does not. This course form is the main reason why Gaelic Warrior has been selected.

Helvic Dream

Helvic Dream used to be a very good Flat horse and could have won the Galway Hurdle with more lenient stewarding. That was his best performance over jumps to date. The Flat performances may well have been used to keep up his fitness when this was the eventual target. An each-way bet is the recommendation on this horse at a big price.

Highland Crystal

-50

Highland Crystal has won all three of her races so far this season at Punchestown, Newbury and, most recently, at Naas when giving weight to Saratoga and the rest of the field. The runner-up that day has boosted the form here on Tuesday, making Highland Crystal an even better candidate for this.

Mon Creuset

Highland Crystal is the main selection for this race, but Mon Creuset is worthy of an each-way bet too. He won a French bumper before being brought to Willie Mullins, who ran him over hurdles to preserve his eligibility for this race. The only race over obstacles looks much better on the replay than the raw result suggests. He made a big error two out and was given a considerate ride once the winning chance was gone. If this horse has learned from his first run, he could have a good chance here.

Monbeg Genius

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+1800

Lose

-50

Monbeg Genius will not stand out as an obvious choice to many in this race, having not won in just over a year and having pulled up twice in the five races since his last victory. We must remember, though, that not all races are the same. The races he has been in over the last year were over trips longer than the 3m he faced at Uttoxeter; one of them, the Grand National, was over 4m. It must also be kept in mind that the weight he has had to carry has been higher than the weight he carried at Uttoxeter. This race is over 3m2f, so it is much more like his previous success, and he will carry 1 lb less too. All things considered, he is a good each-way bet at the price.

Jonbon has yet to finish outside the top two in 27 starts. He won a second straight Clarence House before adding the Betfair Chase to his CV last month. He has been very consistent throughout his whole career, although four of his second-placed finishes have been at Cheltenham, suggesting he is not best suited to Prestbury Park. Fact To File won for the fourth time at this level over fences in this race at last year’s festival. The King George was one to forget, but he bounced back at the DRF, winning the Irish Gold Cup in February. It is a close thing, but Jonbon just gets the nod.

Ma Shantou

The favourite Teahupoo is the main selection here, but Ma Shantou is worthy of each-way consideration. He has run at Cheltenham three times already this season and finished first on every occasion. This will be harder, but at the prices he looks a very solid each-way bet.

Teahupoo

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+350

Teahupoo has finished in all three of the places in the last three runnings of this race and is tipped to get a second win at his fourth attempt. His stable- and owner-mate Bob Olinger beat him last year, helped by a great ride from Rachael Blackmore, but Teahupoo was able to turn that form around at Christmas at Leopardstown, the third of three victories in a row. The two horses have had some epic battles and will both go down as greats. Teahupoo is two years younger, meaning he should be the better of the two here.

Wodhooh won last season's Martin Pipe over course and distance here impressively and looked good with wins at Ascot and Leopardstown earlier in the season. With Lossiemouth having run in and won the Champion Hurdle, Gordon Elliott gets the vote here ahead of Jade de Grugy.

Jordans Cross is the favourite here, having won three out of four starts over fences, but there are reservations about what he has beaten. Regents Stroll was beaten in the Mersey Hurdle only by Honesty Policy, who has a chance in the stayers later. At the prices, he is the selection here.

Found A Fifty

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+3300

Lose

-50

Majborough was the impressive winner of the Dublin Chase but is too short a price here, given there is a school of thought that Found A Fifty was using the contest as a prep race. While Majborough jumped well in February, he has made mistakes in the past. One race is not enough to make us certain that these have been ironed out. The selection here is an each-way bet on Found A Fifty. We need to forgive a bad run last time out, but he is capable of beating most of these on his day, and at the price punters can profit even if he only achieves a place.

The Harry Derham-trained Dargiannini is the selection here. He got back to winning ways at Uttoxeter in October after some time off. We have to forgive him a run where he pulled up at Newbury, but he’s been given some time off and has only gone up 2 lb for the Uttoxeter win. At the weights he is in with an each-way chance here at a huge price.

Kargese was the selection for the Arkle yesterday and duly won, stamping the form of the selection here, Romeo Coolio. He beat Kargese in the Irish Arkle and is unbeaten this season. He wasn’t disgraced in defeat at the end of last season, especially when third behind Kopek Des Bordes in the Supreme over what we now have to assume was an insufficient trip.

No Drama This End, who should start favorite here, has won three races in a row in his prep for this race. Of the six horses to have finished in the top three in those races, only two have entries at the festival, and they are 25/1 shots for the Albert Bartlett. The selection here is Ballyfad, who was only beaten narrowly by Talk The Talk at the DRF. While his rival from that day failed to back up the form in the Supreme, it was still a good performance. He should also show more of that with a step up in trip here.

Golden Ace

Last year’s winner, Golden Ace, has now won two big races in which fancied horses have fallen, so there will always be the question: “What if?” In truth, we can’t know, but she can only beat the horses that finish. Some of the few horses who have finished in front of Golden Ace have been of the very highest class. She may not be good enough to win this if everyone else stands up, but she may well be good enough to place in the event that there are fallers, you never know.

Lossiemouth

Whilst connections of Lossiemouth deserve plaudits for coming to this race, which should be more of a test for her than the Mares’ would have been, this is not an act of charity. She won the last two runnings of the Mares’ Hurdle and is in with a good chance here. Ignoring the race where she fell, she wasn’t beaten in the whole of 2025. Whilst beaten by Brighterdaysahead in February, that was on poor ground after she showed she could beat the same rival over the same track and trip in the previous race. The ground at Cheltenham is set to resemble the earlier race, standing Lossiemouth in good stead.

Stolen Silver

If backing Stolen Silver, we have to look past dismal recent form. The horse showed itself to be fit and well last time out, and the poor runs under the previous trainer are less important now the horse is with new trainer Georgina Nicholls. He has won at Cheltenham before and has been second on three occasions. Most recently off a mark of 150, the same as his mark for his last win at Chepstow. This was some time ago, so we do need to trust the horse to maintain his level at 11 years old, but he runs off 145 here and has a chance of a place at a very big price.

Kopek Des Bordes is the likely favourite here based largely on his impressive novices’ hurdle career which included Grade 1 wins at Leopardstown and Cheltenham last season. Injury has meant that he hasn’t had much chance to prove himself over fences although he was the comfortable winner of the only race he has been able to compete in. Kargese was the impressive winner of the County Hurdle last season and whilst only third in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle she was beaten only by horses who had won the Cheltenham version of the race. She gets the weight allowance as a mare and can follow in the footsteps of Put The Kettle On to become the latest mare to win this race.

Whilst Talk The Talk is the main selection, Mydaddypaddy is unbeaten except when finishing second in the Formby Hurdle (formerly the Challow) in a race he may well have won if they had jumped all the hurdles. Given there are holes in the form of the favourite, he is well worthy of each-way consideration alongside the main selection.

Talk The Talk

Old Park Star starts favorite here, but like most Supreme runners his favoritism is based more on promise than on results. His best race was the Rossington, which has not worked out well, and his only rivals to reach the festival go in longer races at big prices. The selection is Talk The Talk, whose biggest win so far was the Tattersalls Ireland Novices' Hurdle. Although two of his rivals there also go to the Turners, they are short prices for that race. The fact that the ground was bad at Leopardstown suggests a horse that would usually need further would have had an advantage in those conditions.
