The John Butler-trained Victory Ace is owned by a fellow Geordie, Peter Macklam, and he thinks Victory Ace is up for this race tonight. He did well to win after a slow start at Lingfield last time out. His short-head margin of victory meant he only went up 3 lb, and with improvement expected at this mile trip and it being his second run after coming back from a break, he should go close.

The James Owen-trained, Cieren Fallon-ridden Cherry Baker has had just the one run this year, which was in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn at Newmarket. Although she had no realistic chance off a mark of 80, she did run well for a way after racing keenly early and then fading out of contention a furlong from home. She should come on plenty for the run. With her sights lowered to this Class 3 handicap level and dropping back to 6f, I think she could go well at a nice price.

Snow Master has raced just four times, all of which were for Tom Dascombe as a 2yo, winning his first two starts impressively and then failing to build on that with two much lesser efforts, although they were in a Group 3 and Group 2. He's now with Andrew Balding, whose horses are flying at present. Snow Master is a lovely-looking son of Ardad who is blessed with plenty of speed. With Oisin Murphy booked to ride him and coming from a decent draw in stall 7, in a race which is likely to be run at a strong pace, he looks a solid play to me.
