That win took his career score to 322311 (2-6), and he also did well to score against the pace bias at Newmarket on his penultimate start. Stall 21 looks fine, and with a little luck in running at 20/1 he makes each-way appeal.

The David Menuisier-trained Dylan Hogan-ridden Oh Yes You Do has run well in defeat in both starts this season. Despite the drop back in trip, I’m hoping she’ll replicate the form of her latest run, as that form has been franked since. The winner won again well next time out and is now rated 13 lbs higher. The runner-up won by 2 lengths next time. The third won by 3 lengths on his next run, and even the fifth, beaten 7.5 lengths, has finished runner-up twice since.

The Charlie Appleby-trained, William Buick-ridden, Godolphin-owned Into The Light seems to have rock-solid credentials. I’d probably prefer an even higher draw than 11. Middle and high draws do much better than their lower-drawn rivals. The winners of this race in the past 10 years have come from stalls 11, 22, 16, 8, 4, 17, 8, 21, 18, and 20. He set a great standard in his three runs to date and obviously has loads more room to improve. He is already proven in handicaps (like most recent winners).

Still only a 4yo, he has dropped from a high mark of 93. If fully wound up for an in??'form trainer who is batting on a 46.67% strike rate on the turf (7 from 15), he could prove hard to beat.

His performance at Epsom the time before, when he gave 8 lb and was beaten 0.75 lengths by Sweet Reward, is a much better barometer of both his ability and his potential. Sweet Reward went on to win his next two, rising 12 lb in the rankings to a mark of 88. Shafdar, off 89, looks to have an excellent each-way chance.

The Haggis-trained Harry Burns ridden 4yo Invincible Spirit gelding, has won once and placed twice for a mark of 80. There looks to be room to work with off that mark. He's had one run since his move to the Haggis stable, which was over a mile and he didn't get home. This 7f Apprentice h/cap on a flat track looks ideal, and a big run is anticipated.

Dryburgh got smashed up as soon as the betting went up, halving in price, and saw further support today; he has halved again. Dryburgh has been a different horse in his last few starts, coinciding with the fitting of a hood. He was beaten just a length into third here on Lincoln Day, and that race has worked out exceptionally well. The 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th all won next time out. He hasn’t won in two starts since, but there was nothing wrong with him next time out when second, doing best of those held up in a race where the 1st and 3rd were on the pace throughout. That pair have franked the form since; both were runners-up on their next starts. The Oli Rix-trained 3yo maiden looks ready to strike, with Tom Marquand booked.
