I'm just getting a different feel about this England team. While I don't think we will win the competition, I think they may show a lot more than usual in the earlier games. England look to have a good balance in the side and loads of quality on the bench. England didn't concede a goal in qualification in a group that had tricky opponents in Albania and Serbia. Croatia will be a good test, but their two best players are aged 40 and 37, and this might just be a tournament too far. Gvardiol is their best defender but has been injured most of the season and is better going forward. I think this will be a relatively easy night for the Three Lions.

A bit of a cliff horse for me. Rated 112 in its pomp and this is just his 3rd handicap run this afternoon after 2 solid efforts at Newbury. Was beaten less than 5L in the Listed race here last year and was thought good enough to contest a Group 1 here the year before. Good draw in 30. Can go well at a massive price.

This could be similar to last night's game. Another European side have lost a few of their stars, but that, ironically, could make them a better team. Belgium are unbeaten for over a year but haven't played anyone of real quality. Egypt have stars in Marmoush and Salah who can cause any team's problems. They weren't at their best at AFCON, but again a draw would suit both teams, with two weaker teams still to play.

Netherlands look a little better since they have got rid of a few "stars," but this is still a tricky opener where both would be happy with a point. The Dutch had a pretty easy qualification group but still managed to draw both games with the group's second-best team, Poland, and they have also drawn Nations League games with the likes of Bosnia and Hungary. Japanese sides usually bring plenty of energy to games despite the heat, and their friendly win against England at Wembley showed they can compete at this level.

Course winner who usually runs over shorter trips but often stays on over 6f. That shouldn't be a surprise when you consider his French form, when he went close on several occasions in Group and Listed events over 7f, often on soft ground. His last win was over 6.5f when he beat today's second favourite while receiving 7 lb. Today he gets an effective 19 lb from that same rival. He ran well last time despite being hampered several times at the back end of the race. That run suggests he can go close today with a bit of luck.

This isn't the most sexy Brazil team, and draws with Ecuador, Uruguay, and Venezuela in qualification go a long way to prove that. No Cunha in the starting lineup is a little disappointing. They face a Moroccan side who won AFCON, have plenty of players at big European clubs, and reached the semi-final of the last World Cup. These two are the top sides in the group, and I think both would take a point, with just Haiti and Scotland still to play.

It's a long time since this one contested a Class 4, and that could just trigger a return to the winners' enclosure. Solid course form, and a good claimer takes off weight. Does well in these big-runner handicaps. Looks too big at its current odds.

7yo who boasts wins off marks in the 90s in his back form. Not quite at that level now, but still holds enough ability to win a race of this nature. His last CD run was in the John Smith's Cup where he was beaten just over 3L off an effective mark of 81. His three other CD runs were all respectable and off marks in the 80s. He runs off just 74 today; his last win was off 79. Adaptable regarding ground, and first-time headgear could just sharpen him up.

Two turf wins have both come with soft in the ground description, and both were off higher marks than today's mark of 90. His second over CD in October off 95 is arguably his best piece of form. This time last year he was running in Group races and had a treble-figure mark. A return to this track off 90 on soft ground can see a revival.

That included a close 2nd on soft ground at Ascot and a solid run here on similar ground. One of only two course winners in the race. If the unexposed types don't find significant improvement, he looks best placed to take advantage.

This 7yo course-and-distance winner was thought good enough to try a Class 2 handicap at Haydock from out of the weights when with Crawford. After that failure he was sent chasing before a return to hurdles last time over a trip that probably stretches him, especially with give in the ground. That was his only bad run here. His other four runs (all over this 2m trip) produced a win, a third and two sub-10L defeats off higher marks. He looks a lively outsider if the change of stable has freshened him up.

Three nice runs to date. Maybe the third run last year was a slight bit disappointing, but it was the softest ground she'd experienced and at the notoriously tricky Chester. Off since, and a repeat of her Class 2 and Class 3 runs at Ascot and Newmarket would see her go close here. Oisin Murphy rides, and the stable is fresh from a couple of winners at Hamilton on Wednesday.

Handicap debutant who showed enough on its second run to suggest it can win a race of this nature. It beat Lord Britain that day, getting 2 lb; today it meets that rival on 5 lb better terms. It showed it had trained on last time when getting a generous ride after being short of room at a crucial time. It should come on for that run, and it would be no surprise to see a much improved performance tonight from an OK draw.

Showed a decent level of form as a 2yo and has proved she's trained on with her run at Doncaster last time. That was the furthest she's gone and the fastest ground she's encountered, and with a bit of luck in running she may well have won. Similar trip, grade, and ground today, and just 1 lb higher, which all points to another good run where she can hopefully land the spoils.

Winning on soft ground is not something that many (if any) in this race can boast. So this one's soft-ground win and heavy-ground second are a massive plus in a race of this nature. Hopefully she's trained on, and the fact that Main sends her to Haydock, which isn't a usual stomping ground for the stable, suggests she has. A +LSP and 17% strike rate are decent stats, and hopefully the high draw won't be an inconvenience. Looks one of the most likely winners at a decent price.

I stuck this one in the tracker after its run at Ponty first time up. I was waiting for it to go back to Hamilton, but he's won here before and the stiff finish will suit.
