A low draw can be an advantage over the 7f here. It's no coincidence that the top two in the market are drawn 1 and 2. I'm siding with the 5 box runner. He ran well on his only previous run here when drawn 10 of 12. He got tired that day on his first run over 7f on soft ground. Just 3lb higher than his seasonal debut win and blinkers applied for just the second time in his career, he can go well at a big price.

Last three runs at York have resulted in two wins and a close second. That second was a 3/4L loss to Elmonjed, which is currently 6/1. Strike Red has a 9lb swing today and is 20's. A bit of juice in the ground will be ideal today. Last two wins have come off this mark or higher. Drawn 20, which could be a worry, but it's hard to know from one meeting to the next at York. Can go well at a big price.

Course and distance winner who has run three times on ground with 'soft' in the description. Two of those runs resulted in wins. This trip on soft ground might take a bit of getting, and this one has gone close over further, which is a plus. He ran well enough off this mark in the autumn, and the last run hinted at a return to form. Can go well at a massive price.

Joint highest rated in the race but gets 3-year-old allowance, so getting weight from the favorite. Unexposed having just its 5th run and 2nd handicap run this afternoon. Ran a cracker on handicap debut at Ponty, not quite getting home after doing all the donkey work. This is 1f further, but the stiff mile at Ponty may be harder to get than the 1m 1f here. He should come on for that run and might find front-running tactics a little easier here if choosing to go that way. Looks to have a solid chance at a nice price.

The 3-year-olds at the top of the market have obvious chances, but they are drawn on the flanks, which might not be ideal. The selection has all its best form on soft ground, so the recent rain will be a plus. The last two wins have come off marks of 83 and 84 and have dropped to 83 for the first time since its last win. It has had some decent efforts at the track, including a second in the Silver Cup. Two runs this year should put him spot on for today, and he is a nice price to boot.

The trainer (family) who does well at this time of year has won this race 3 times in recent years and sent out the third and fourth last year. The third from last year runs again and is 4lb better off with last year's winner for 5L. I like the stable's other runner, a CD winner, and the last win came off 142, running off an effective 128 today. Was off the track for 428 days before putting in a solid effort at Cartmel. Should come on for that run, has won on soft and good/soft if the rains come, and is a nice price at around 8/1.

Went really close twice last season over course and distance off marks of 109 and 108. Has swapped stables since and ran well for a long way last time before understandably getting tired late on after almost 200 days off. Claimer takes off 10lb today giving him an effective mark of just 90. Drops into a class 5 handicap for just the second time in his career, can go well at a massive price.

Had some decent form in France where her only win came over this trip and on this type of ground. Went well on stable debut, running on well after getting outpaced. The only course winner in the race, which is a massive positive at this track, has a lovely draw in the 2 box for a front runner. 7 lb lower than last win and first-time blinkers to sharpen him up. Way too big at 9's.

Has been knocking on the door in these types of races with all her best runs coming on this type of ground. Hasn't had the best of luck with draws in recent races but looks to have a nice draw this afternoon. I'm not convinced about the 3-year-olds; this one could be best placed to pick up the pieces.

Won here as a 2yo and has been highly tried so far this term at tracks that I'm not sure suit his running style. Even so, the run at Epsom was solid, finishing not far behind a horse that was beaten only 1L in the French Derby next time out. The St Leger was muted after that race. Gets 3yo allowance here, could go well at a massive price.

Won this last year off 4lb higher and would have won last year carrying that 4lb extra. Just one run this season suggests this has been the target, trainer is in good form. The fav takes a lot out of this market but could be vulnerable running at this trip for the first time.

This time last year, Haatem was beating Never So Brave by 4 1/2L, giving it 3lb in the Jersey. Since then, Never So Brave has gone close in a few handicaps before winning one last time when getting the plum draw. At the same time, Haatem was winning and placing in group races before winning a Listed race last time over a distance that stretches his stamina. These two are the wrong way around in the betting, in my opinion.

Beat just 1 1/2L in a Group 2 here as a 2yo. Started this season with an okay run in a Listed race, then followed that up with a decent run at Royal Ascot. Not much between him and the favorite on that run. I think they should be much closer in the betting.

Has run in Group races for the majority of his career. Ran a cracker when dropped into handicap company when winning the Thirsk Hunt Cup. Too bad to be true next time out at Epsom where he didn't handle the track on ground softer than ideal. Back on fast ground and a more forgiving track today, too big at 18's.

Not much between him, Endless Victory, and Champagne Prince on their run at Ascot. He followed that up with a narrow defeat in a Listed race last week. As a result, his mark will go up 6lb in the future, which is why he's been sent out so soon. He goes well on this type of ground and has run well at Newmarket before, albeit on the Rowley.

One of the youngest and least exposed in the race, 5 runs over the larger obstacles, and his only two bad runs came on soft ground, so any rain would be a worry. Won a class 3 last time, and the second and fourth have both won since, so the form looks solid. Down to class 4 today, with the extra distance likely to suit. Looks a worthy favorite in a race where a few of his nearest rivals all have form that ties them together.

Three runs at the track have resulted in a win, a last fence fall when disputing the lead, and a close 4th (beaten less than 7L). Ran a solid race last time when losing to today's favorite by less than 4L. She's 6lb better off with that rival today and wears first-time pieces. Can go well at a nice price.

Course specialist with 2 wins and 5 places from 11 runs at the track, effectively 1 lb lower than his last win and effectively 9 lb lower than when second in the race last year. Softening ground is a slight worry, but he beat Group 1 winner Docklands on Good to Soft as a novice and has a few more good runs on ground with cut. A couple of potential improvers in the race, but he can go well at a double-figure price.

I'm sure there's a race in this guy off this kind of mark. When you consider this time last year, he was going close off marks in the mid to high 70s. Was only beaten a length with this pilot up off 3lb higher at Catterick and ran well enough last time to suggest he can win this type of race. Has gone well at the track before and handles all types of ground.

Gave Gaucher 2 lb and a beating at Leopardstown at Christmas. Meets that rival on 11 lb better terms today, and he's 16's and Gaucher is 5/2. Hasn't had loads of running for an 11-year-old and has gone well off a break in the past. Rated 150 as a chaser and a Grade 3 winner in that sphere. Could go well at a big price.

Last win came over CD around this time last year off a mark of 59. Runs off 51 today but effectively 46 with claimer taking off 5lb. Good course record and has improved with every run this season. Ran a cracker last time when not quite getting home over 7.5 furlongs up the Beverley hill. Was drawn wide that day so had to use up energy to get to the front, that ultimately cost him. No draw issues today in the 1 box, looks overpriced at 11s.

Won with loads in hand here under similar conditions over Course and Distance in May, up 10lb for that run but I'm not sure that will stop her. Only a 7yo so could still have loads of improvement in her. Her best runs have come on ground with "good" in the description, might have most to fear from last years winner but that has to give her 12lb which will be some task.

A CD winner off 131 in his pomp, this is his 4th run back after a year in his box and he should be just about hitting top form. A solid run last time in a three runner race, a repeat of that at the revised weights should see him overturn the result against Roger Pol who is 6 points shorter than him. One of the least exposed in the race, especially over this trip. Travelled really well under first-time blinkers last time and was probably value for more than the result suggested. Still only 4 years old, so progression is likely. Best form has come on the AW and is with a trainer that can progress these types of horses. Looks overpriced at double figures.
