Villa finished top of the league stage of this. Emery has a good record in Europe and usually finds a way to win, as he did in the first leg. Villa don't score many goals. This could be fragmented for large periods, but I think Villa have too much quality and home advantage, which also counts for a lot.

Rock surely has to come to the table soon. The signs are there, and Price admitted at the weekend in his final loss to Nijman that he was feeling a little jaded. They have yet to meet in the PL, and Rock has won 2 of the last 4 meetings between the two. I think Rock can get at least 4 legs in this.

So I see two scenarios in this. Either a slow start from Littler, which means potentially more legs and more 180 opportunities, or Littler hitting his straps and, as a result, hitting a few 180s like last week. Bunting can always add a couple to the overall tally, so this looks a reasonable price.

Littler can be such a slow starter. I think this is value. If this was a semi or final I would side with under. On top of Littler's slow starts, two of the last three meetings between these two have been 6-5, so there is potential for a long game anyway.

Unexposed has just had three runs. It's interesting that this one is upped in trip and wears a hood for the first time on handicap debut. It ran its best race to date last time out at Leopardstown when making most of the running. It was outpaced at a key point and also made a slight mistake but stayed on pretty well. I think the step up in trip will suit. It had a Mullins odds-on shot just in front that day, and the second has come out and run a solid race since. Can go well at a big price with Torrens booked.

4-year-old with not many miles on the clock. Won his maiden on turf over this trip and went close on turf off a mark of 80. Returned to the winners' enclosure last time over 2f further and has only gone up 3 lb for that win. A mark of 75 is still 5 lb lower than his highest turf mark. From a nice draw in 7 he could stay on late to take the spoils.

IMPERIAL MERLIN The favourite could be anything, but he does take a good share of the market. Aside from him, this looks a pretty open affair, with some of those at the head of the betting possibly vulnerable over this trip. Imperial Merlin was pulled up last time, but if you can forgive that run he's been pretty competitive off higher marks in Class 3 events. The aforementioned run was his first Class 4 run since winning at Haydock almost a year to the day off 1 lb higher. His last two wins have come at this trip, and all but one of his wins have come with "good" in the ground description. If there are any holes in the favourite he could take advantage at a big price.

With only eight runners, I'm going for an outsider. This one has a course win to its name and was in the process of running a nice race over hurdles when falling at the final fence last time. He's 4 lb lower than his last win and goes well under testing conditions. Claimers' 5 lb allowance should be an advantage in what could be a slog.

They haven't messed about sending this one over the big obstacles, which isn't surprising, as he was 3rd in a decent 3m point-to-point. Three runs over hurdles; the best was his only previous race on soft ground when staying on and beating less than 3L against a 125-rated hurdler. Effectively 104 for handicap debut, so if he can convert his hurdle form to chasing he could be a big player at a nice price.

Minella Emperor From a yard that can ready one for a big handicap. Having just its 6th hurdle run and 2nd handicap run today, so thoroughly unexposed, especially at this trip. The GB handicapper looks to have been lenient with him, and the claimer takes off some useful weight. Faster ground shouldn't be an issue. Can go well at a massive price.

Reasonably unexposed for an 8yo, especially over the larger obstacles. Showed some promise in Ireland over inadequate trips, then was upped to 3m 2f for its handicap debut at Cheltenham where he beat L'Homme Presse by 5L, putting up 2 lb overweight. A run in Ireland since kept him ticking over and preserved his handicap mark. Now runs off 146, which is only effectively 6 lb higher because of the previous overweight. The win at Cheltenham was on Good/Soft. Can go well at a nice price.

He ran in a Grade 3 off 128 when last seen over hurdles in May, and his last win came off 124. Down to 122 today, drying ground would be a positive. This time last year she was splitting mid-130 horses in a novice event and finished off the season chasing down the now 139-rated hurdler and 158-rated chaser Kaid d'Authie. She was made joint favourite for her season debut but tired after 243 days on the sidelines. Similar story next time, but that was on bottomless ground. Both those runs were in Listed handicaps. Irish raider, only a 5-year-old, so still relatively unexposed over hurdles. Has been far from disgraced in Listed and Graded races in Ireland. His run in Galway in August was full of promise; he was beaten by less than a length that day after being stuck on the rails and short of room for most of the back end of the race. He followed that up with a solid run on the flat and a decent run in a Listed race. Last time was very disappointing, but he has been given a break since. Entered at Cheltenham, and this trainer doesn't usually send them over here without a chance. Way too big at 40s.

Has only run 4 times in his short career, and he's twice finished behind the now 123-rated Locked and Loaded, which suggests his opening mark of 112 is workable. His two disappointing runs have been when he's pulled away his chances early; that includes his last run when he was made 6/4 favourite in a maiden at Taunton on heavy. Hood fitted today, which will hopefully help him settle. The competitive nature of the race should also help in that regard. His best runs have come on this type of ground, and he looks too big in the market for me at around 20/1.

Two course-and-distance runs have produced a 2¼L win off 3 lb lower than today and a ¾L defeat off 2 lb higher than today. He's shown nothing so far this season, but there have been excuses. It was his first time up after a three-month break, then he was twice drawn 8/10 and 10/10 at Wolverhampton, which wouldn't be ideal. Billy Loughnane takes over in the saddle after he was twice ridden by 5 lb claimers this year. He has a nice draw in 1. Short enough, but looks one of the most likely in a race that isn't as competitive as it first looks.
