Tarasque Slot (Print Studios)

The Tarasque slot is played on an 8x8 with 64 symbol positions. Winning combinations are formed using Cluster Pays. To land a winning cluster, you need to see 5 or more matching symbols adjacent to each other. With the possibility of landing multiple winning clusters, the highest payouts per symbol are awarded when you award 64 of the same symbol (covering the whole grid).

You can play Tarasque from as little as 10p per spin. With the maximum bet at £50 a spin, use the arrows on either side of the current bet to change the bet amount. Released in February 2024, the Tarasque slot takes you back in time to the annual festival in the quaint town of Tarragon (France) where villagers gather to witness St. Martha perform with her famed Tarasque. But the village Mage has a devious plan to flip the town’s celebrations on their heads.

With a medieval/art theme, the Tarasque is a beast from French mythology that had a lion-like heard, a body protected by a turtle-like carapace, 6 feet with bear-like claws, a serpent’s trail and poisonous breath (according to Wikipedia).

Brilliantly designed, I’ve never come across such a great-looking slot game. Quirky, fun and full of detail, it has a real art and classical feel with an oil painting feel to the graphics. It also comes with an upbeat medieval soundtrack which adds to the mischievous nature of the game. As an all-round package, Print Studios has excelled with this release.

On the 8x8 grid, symbols include low-value 4-leaf clovers, snails, lemons and horseshoes. The higher-paying symbols are represented by medieval characters including a jester, a knight, a town crier and St. Martha (who controls the Tarasque). St. Martha is the best-paying symbol awarding a 1,000 times bet payout for 64 on the grid.

Tarasque comes with a Wild symbol which appears as an eye inside a triangle. Substituting for all symbols on the grid, there is a Tarasque Wild symbol which appears on the grid when the first Progressive feature is triggered (more details below). With no Scatter or Bonus symbols, below is a list of symbol payouts and functions:

Tarasque Mobile

Being a relatively new slot studio (founded in 2020), Print Studios produces all slot games using HTML5 technology. This means Tarasque is available to play on laptop, PC, mobile and tablet devices. Compatible with iOS and Android smartphones, playing on a mobile will see you use the Portrait Mode version of the game which occupies your full screen. To see all the detail in the symbols and experience the whimsical humour and animations, a larger screen would be my preference.

The Tarasque slot comes with 8 bonus features. Winning clusters can see its symbols transform into the Morphing symbol if they match which then transforms into another symbol. With random multipliers up to 20x applying to winning clusters, every win charges the meters which brings various Progressive features into play. They include added wilds, removal of low-value symbols, more Morphing symbols and a Tarasque symbol size increase. With 5 levels, the features are more powerful the higher the level. The Tarasque is wild and unleashes devoured symbols onto the grid for lots of continuous wins.

Morphing Clusters

Above the grid, in the top right-hand corner, there is the Mage’s Tower which displays a random Morphing symbol. If you land a winning cluster and that symbol is the same as the Morphing symbol, the Morphing Clusters feature will be triggered.

Then the winning symbols morph or transform into a different symbol that appears adjacently. This increases the size of the winning clusters and continues until the winning symbols no longer match the Morphing symbol in the Mage’s Tower. The Morphing symbol will change after it’s part of a win or if it doesn’t match the unleashed symbol in the Unleashed Stage (more information can be found below).

Celestial Blessings

Any cluster win can randomly be subject to the Celestial Blessing feature. This means a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 20x is applied to the winning cluster.

Progressive features

Down the left side of the grid, there is a Progress Bar which is filled with every winning cluster. With each level, you activate random Progressive features. The higher the level a feature is activated on, the more powerful the feature. Below is a list of features that can be activated:

• Wild Spikes: A number of Wild symbols are randomly placed on the grid. The higher the level, the more wilds will be added.
• Blazing Gaze: All low-paying symbols are removed from the grid. When you reach higher levels, low-paying symbols will be removed in subsequent cascades.
• Mage’s Morph: Several Morphing symbols are placed, randomly, on the grid. The higher the level, the more Morphing symbols will be added.
• Bulking Beast: The Tarasque increases in size until no more winning clusters are formed. The higher the level, the bigger the size of the Tarasque.

The Tarasque: Devour & Unleash Feast

The Tarasque symbol acts as a wild and substitutes for all symbols. Randomly placed on the grid when the first Progressive feature is activated, the Tarasque devours symbols from winning clusters it forms part of during the Devour Stage.

When there are no Progressive features to be activated, the Tarasque will enter the Unleash Stage. All devoured/collected symbols are unleashed randomly on the grid, starting with the lowest-value symbol. Up to 64 symbols (a grid full) can be unleased at a time.

Finally, only symbols not yet placed can be devoured during the Unleash Stage with the progress bar inactive. When no more winning clusters are formed and no more devoured symbols can be placed, the feature ends.  

Feature Bet

If you reside outside the UK, there is an optional Feature Bet. The feature guarantees up to 45 Morphing symbols on the grid. With 5 options, below is a table highlighting the cost and RTP rate:

Print Studios has excelled themselves with the Tarasque slot. The theme is unique and the graphics and animations are nothing like I’ve come across below. Funny, cheeky and entertaining, I love how the characters and symbols come to life which offers an immersive experience. Despite a Portrait Mode for smartphone users being available, I think you’re missing a trick if you don’t play on a larger screen.

With a Monty Python and the Holy Grail feel, it’s a Cluster Pays slot with a difference. The Morphing Clusters sees 1 symbol transforming a winning cluster to an adjacent symbol which can lead to plenty of cascades and successive wins.

With every win charging the meter, the Tarasque appears to devour/collect adjacent winning symbols. The famed beast then unleashes various Progressive features which are more potent the higher the level you reach. If you’re lucky enough to reach the last level, the Tarasque will unleash or add all devoured symbols onto the grid in order to value for more wins.

With 20,000 times bet max wins, the Tarasque slot is a visual masterpiece and unlike any other Cluster Pays game I’ve come across. Making my top 10 list of the best Cluster Pays slots, Play ‘n GO’s Reactoonz sees you charge the Quantum Leap with every winning cluster.

Another unique Cluster Pays experience can be found in Nolimit City’s The Border which has an immigration theme.
