Reapers is packed with bonus features which may take a few attempts to read and understand! As mentioned previously, the aim of the mission is to unlock 15 barriers to gain entry to the special bonus round. The barriers are grouped into stages containing 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 barriers, and each barrier has a game grid.
You need to shut down a barrier and then move on to the next barrier collecting Energy Cells along the way until you hopefully reach the fabled bonus round. Here is how each feature works and moves you to the next level of the game:
Collecting Feature
When you land a winning cluster, you trigger the Collecting feature. The Reaper of the same matching type will be positioned next to the winning cluster. All of the matching symbols and symbol clusters next to that particular Reaper will transform into Energy Cells which are collected, and then pays are awarded.
Charges Feature
For every 5 Energy Cells collected, the Reaper receives 1 charge. These charges are used to shut down the barrier, which is the aim of the game. The further you progress into the game the higher the number of charges needed to shut down a barrier.
Special Ability Feature
Each Reaper has a special ability attached to it, which is activated when the Power Core symbols are collected. Power Cores are collected when they are next to the Reaper.
Here is what each special ability gives you:
- Energizer – causes all Reapers to generate 1 Energy Cell, this happens once per symbol grid.
- Linker – links Reapers so that they can collect from each other.
- Transformer – transforms purple symbols into a different type of symbol.
- Expander – collects symbols in a 4x4 area.
- Multiplier – multiplies its collected wins by up to 10x, the value is randomly selected at the start of each symbol grid.
Bonus Game Feature
Shutting down all of the 15 barriers triggers access to the bonus game. The bonus game has 5 levels with each one containing 75 symbol grids. For each level, you need to collect enough Energy Cells to move to the next level. When you reach a new level 1 Critter is removed from play.
At the start of each level, a Juggernaut Reaper symbol moves through a tunnel which passes though the symbol grids. Any cluster of 5+ matching symbols are collected and paid. A meter helpfully tells you how many Energy Cells have been collected for each level. There's also a meter at the bottom of the screen to tell you how many symbol grids remain on each level.
If you manage to collect enough Energy Cells you move to the next level. At each level you manage to reach, there are more rewarding Critter symbols, which can mean potentially bigger wins.
