4:10 Doncaster Tips

Second in a Kempton maiden on penultimate start. Showed above average class when winning a very good French conditions race next time. Handicap debut and could have got in lightly.

An improving, progressive horse that holds a big race entry. Came 2nd last time out when upped in trip and could be well handicapped here.

Won two on the bounce over 6f before stepping up to 7f at York. Finished 3rd there, 2.25L behind Stellar Sunrise. They think the winner could be worthy of black type, and the 2nd has since won a French Listed race. Possibly benefited from the draw bias slightly there; however, still had to come from quite far back and a wide trip, doing by far his best work towards the end. Possibly even better at 1m. Pedigree can give encouragement as to handling softer ground, albeit still Good at the time of writing. Only up 2lbs for that, so unlikely to be too high. Drawn with the pace, so hopefully doesn't sit right up but gets a nice tow into the race. Surprised with one who's done absolutely nothing and been gelded since is fav. Tricky Tell won nicely twice at Chester but was well beaten 12L lto, but likely doesn't stay 7f at this stage.

On a promising trajectory, the only other unexposed opponent was too strong, resulting in a clear 2nd in a maiden at Chepstow 23 days prior. This 2-year-old is worth considering as the initial rating appears a bit lenient, making an each-way bet at 10/1 likely to be profitable.

Usual two-year-old caveat applies. We have more variables than we have in a race with older horses, but it is tricky to rule out GOLD DAWN. Raced perfectly well in a tougher race than this on handicap debut and re-opposes much shorter priced Special Dividend on one pound better terms, so must be able to overturn that outcome. Consistent start to career and could get involved here.
