Austria recorded some excellent performances on their way to Euro 2024 last 16, beating Poland and the Netherlands in the group stage, before a narrow 2-1 defeat to Turkey in the knockout rounds. They have continued their progression into these championships, qualifying top from an albeit modest group with nineteen points from eight games, where they conceded just three goals. The Austrians have also won their last three friendly outings: 5-1 and 1-0 wins over Ghana and South Korea in March, followed by a 1-0 success against Tunisia a couple of weeks ago. Jordan reached the final of the FIFA Arab Cup in December, where they recorded good wins against fellow World Cup qualifiers Egypt (3-0), Iraq (1-0) and Saudi Arabia (1-0), before losing the title 3-2 to Morocco. They have failed to win their four friendlies since that loss, conceding ten goals along the way, which included a 4-1 defeat to Switzerland and a 2-0 reverse against Colombia in their last two matches. Looking at the two teams, I expect Austria to be superior on both sides of the ball tonight and feel Jordan will struggle to escape the foot of the group.
