Leyton Orient were beaten at Wembley in the play-off final last season by Charlton Athletic. They finished sixth and four places above Huddersfield Town. Two of the last three for The Terriers at home to Orient were draws, and I am backing this ends in another.

The last six head-to-head meetings have been two wins each and a couple of draws. This opening weekend fixture does have the feel of being hard to call. Both will have eyes on at least reaching the playoffs, and I am backing a point each between Plymouth and Barnsley this afternoon.

Rotherham have won the last three head-to-head meetings, and the last league meeting here was a 1-0 win. Port Vale have come up from League Two, and I am backing that on the opening weekend they struggle against Rotherham. This is a home win.

Doncaster Rovers won the League Two title last season, but this will be a tough opener for them back in League One. Exeter won three of their four pre-season games, and I am backing they will give Rovers a game. This has the look of an opening weekend draw.

Last season it ended 0-0 at Bloomfield Road and the last three meetings are one win each and a draw. Stevenage won away to the likes of Reading, Barnsley and Wrexham near the end of last season and I am backing they start the new campaign with a point away to Blackpool.

Wigan have had the better pre-season campaign and finished it with back-to-back wins against Tranmere Rovers and Accrington. Northampton only won once in six friendlies, and I am backing that form creeps into this month and Wigan make it four wins and defeats in six against Northampton.

Both meetings last season in the league ended in score draws, and I am backing this. It looks like a tight opener on the coupon. Salford drew their last two friendlies, and I am going for a point each on the opening Saturday of League Two.

The last time Milton Keynes Dons and Oldham Athletic were in the same division it was the Dons who won home and away. Oldham have only won once away to MK Dons since 2006 and I am backing the home win on the opening weekend.

Botafogo won 2-0 last weekend against Bragantino, and they haven’t lost at home since the end of February. Cruzeiro have struggled in the last few games with a defeat and a couple of 0-0 draws. I am backing Botafogo to pick up the home win tonight.

Bragantino have lost their last four matches and are struggling of late in the Serie A. Atletico beat Flamengo 1-0 last weekend and I am backing them to make it four wins in a row against Bragantino.

Three wins in the last four head-to-head meetings, and I am backing Palmeiras to win for a fifth time in six away to Vitoria. One win in five at home for Vitoria, and I am going for Palmeiras grinding out the result.

The opening night of the Championship sees two sides meet who are returning to the second tier from different directions. Ipswich Town have drawn on their last two visits to St Andrews, and with three of the last four head-to-heads being draws, I am backing a Friday night score draw to start the new season.

The Reds open the new season on Friday night and I am backing Arne Slot’s men get off to a flying start. They beat Bournemouth home and away the last two seasons and have won the last five meetings, I am going for the Anfield win under the lights for the Champions.

Tottenham Hotspur have won the last four head to head meetings with Burnley and I am backing Thomas Frank wins his first Premier League game in charge of Spurs. The last six home games against Burnley have been home wins and I am backing Tottenham will open the season with an opening win.

Wolves were beaten 2-1 at home to Manchester City last season, and they lost by a single goal at the Etihad. Nine of the last ten head-to-heads were Man City wins, and I am backing this will be an away win at Molineux.

The Blues won the FIFA Club World Cup in July, beating PSG in the final. I am backing that they will start their Premier League season with a statement home win. They have a great recent record against Palace and won eight of the last nine at home. I am going for a Chelsea opening weekend win.
