Julio Coolio 100 Club Opportunity With OLBG Racing

If you dream of being involved with a well-bred horse capable of running at a major jumps meeting, then OLBG Racing’s 100 Clubs and Syndicates are designed for you.

We know that many shared ownership options focus on fun days out at low-level meetings. Perhaps you’ve tried micro-share syndicates and felt they lacked the connection you were looking for. Or maybe 10% share syndicates felt out of reach and didn’t offer the social or community experience you want.

That’s why we created 100 Clubs and Syndicates: to give you the chance to be part of a small group of true National Hunt fans, with 1–5% memberships/shares in quality, well-bred horses, and experiencing genuine involvement and shared excitement as they progress towards the big days.

Interested? Simply email us on racing@olbg.com and let us know.

The clubs have no upfront costs, just a monthly membership fee and therefore no sales returns. The syndicates have up front costs to cover the purchase of the horse and a return if/when the horse is sold. Aside from that, the benefits are very similar, with owner level experiences like yard visits, updates and share of prize money.

Julio Coolio is our first horse under this scheme and due to huge demand, is no longer available for public offering. Read on to find out more about what Julio's members are experiencing and if you would like to express an interest in similar opportunities, simply email me, Richard Moffat on racing@olbg.com and let me know what you are looking for.

About Julio

Julio Coolio is a beautifully bred 4-year-old mare out of Miss Bailly, a proven dam who has already produced multiple black-type performers.

Julio's half brother, Romeo Coolio was runner-up in the 2024 Champion Bumper, a Grade 1 winner at Leopardstown last season and placed at both the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals. He’s now rated 150 and currently priced between 12/1 and 20/1 for next year’s Arkle.

Julio's half sister, Ascending Lark is a 6 time winner from 6 runs for Harry Derham and a recent winner of a listed hurdle at The Punchestown Festival

Listen to what our bloodstock agent, Ed Bailey has to say about her.

Her sire, Crystal Ocean is one of the most talked-about young National Hunt stallions. The World’s Best Racehorse of 2019 is now establishing himself as a leading young National Hunt sire. His early runners include a black type winner in France and multiple point-to-point winners. His son Cristal D’Estruval topped the Cheltenham Festival Sale at £400,000, purchased by Harry & Ed.

We are incredibly lucky to have Julio Coolio and the credit for that goes to our diligent and dedicated bloodstock agent, Ed Bailey.

Here is Ed with more info on Julio Coolio and her family. Listen to Ed explain how he took Paul O'Brien and Harry Derham to see her the day after Ascending Lark won at Punchestown. Watch how Julio impressed them all and showed off her jumping skills to Paul.

FAQs

Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via racing@olbg.com

Why is this a club and not a syndicate?

The key difference between the two is the legal ownership of the horse.

With aan OLBG 100 Club, OLBG retains legal ownership of the horse, taking on the upfront costs, the risk and the responsibility.

Many of our OLBG Racing Club members wanted to be involved in another horse, with a smaller group of people, without up front costs, so this set up allows them to do so. It is our hope (although we can't guarantee this of course) that once Julio finishes her racing, she will stay with OLBG for her breeding career, ideally returning to Ed Bailey's Bloodstock farm. Hence we don't currently intend to sell her and that wouldn't have aligned with a typical syndicate set up where the horse is normally sold after a set period.

Can I Trust OLBG To Run A Good Club?

OLBG have a proven track record through running the OLBG Racing Club. The Racing Club manager, Richard Moffat bought his first share in a racehorse over 20 years ago, is licensed by the BHA to manage racing clubs and syndicates and is a member the Racehorse Syndicates Association. But don't take our word for it, here are some of the lovely things which The OLBG Racing Club members have said.

"I wanted to say what a fantastic job you are doing with the OLBG Racing Club. The quality of the comms is outstanding. I love getting the updates - they are really educational and interesting" Dave P.

"I have to say I am incredibly impressed with our Club. It is all good - perfect amount of communication, really nice people involved (your team and the club members) and a fantastic stable to be connected with." Martin

"Very well organised visit. Wonderful friendly family run yard. Can’t wait to visit again. Was so lovely to see some familiar faces and also meeting new members too. Feel so privileged to be a part of a great club with like minded horse loving people." Becky P

"Thanks for the special feel of last night. Felt like I was there. The steps taken to ensure everyone is kept informed is fantastic." Kate B

"I'm really impressed with the level and quality of communication and information we receive" John.B

"Thank you for the wonderful club you & your colleagues are running for us. You are doing an outstanding job & found us such amazing horses to be involved with. Loving every moment of it " Suzanne

How Likely Am I To Get An Owners Badge?

Each membership you buy will give you a minimum of a 1% chance for each badge we are allocated.

The number of members who apply for badges when a horse runs will vary depending on location, day of week, type of race etc. Some members don't attend the races at all, some can only attend on certain days, at certain locations.  So your chances will depend on how many badges we are allocated and how many members apply.

Everyone who wishes to attend a particular meeting can apply for the ballot which for our initial badge allocation, will be drawn completely at random on the basis of one entry per membership. Typically racecourses allocate 6-10 badges per runner.

Through connections we have built up, our sponsorship of Harry Derham Racing and our willingness to try hard, we are often able to agree additional badges. When we agree additional badges, we will use these to allocate to anyone who has been particularly unlucky in the past.

We have found that this approach has worked well in the past and gives us a good balance of everyone having an equal chance, along with the ability to compensate for anyones bad luck.

We will always though seek to help you make your day as enjoyable as possible, whether you get to stand inside the parade ring, just outside it or if you follow from home. We'll have a race day host at the course to help you and to bring those who cant make it, the latest from your trainer and jockey. Our aim is to provide the best race day experience we can.

Will I Get To Visit Julio?

Absolutely! Lots!

As yard sponsors of Harry Derham racing we have a fantastic relationship with Harry and the team. We will arrange at least two organised yard visits per season specifically for members of the Julio Coolio club and more if needed.

If Julio is on her holidays or having a break at Ed Bailey's, we can also arrange to visit her there. This is where our first visit will be during July 2025.

We will do all we can to make sure that every member has multiple opportunities to visit each season.

What Updates & Content Can I Expect?

The best!

Harry Derham prides himself on keeping his owners up to date. You can expect a bi-weekly update direct from him during the season. You will also get videos of Julio on the gallops & schooling. In addition, OLBG visits the yard regularly to capture additional content.

In the run up to race days you will receive email and WhatsApp messages at entry & declaration stages. You will receive race previews and reviews.

Then on the day of the race we will bring you content from the course.

You won't find a club or syndicate that provides more content.

In addition to all this you will have regular opportunities to have your questions answered directly from Harry or via ourselves. We want all our members to learn more about the lives of National Hunt horses, those who care for them and the entire National Hunt industry.

What is the GBB Bonus Scheme?

The Great British Bonus Scheme (GBB) incentivises and rewards the breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies. Winning GBB-registered fillies can win up to £100,000 for their owners, breeders and other winning connections.

The qualifying races include weight for Age and Handicap races, both mares-only and open to both sexes, in the following categories:

  • Class 1-5: Standard NH Flat races
  • Class 4: Novice Junior Hurdles
  • Class 1, 2, 3 & 4: Juvenile, Novice and Maiden Hurdles
  • Class 1, 2, 3 & 4: Novice and Beginner Chases
  • Class 1 & 2: Hurdles not restricted to Juveniles, Novices and Maidens
  • Class 1 - 2: Chases not restricted to Juveniles, Novices and Maidens

GBBPlus will allow for the inclusion of C3 & C4 Chases not restricted to Juveniles, Novices and Maidens

With the introduction of GBBPlus in January 2025, GBB has adopted a 10-20-30 bonus structure for NH mares.

  • Mares-only and Class 1 Open bumpers will carry a bonus of £10,000 for 100% GBB fillies; C2 - C5 Open bumpers will carry a £5,000 bonus for 100% GBB fillies.
  • Mares-only Hurdles and C1 Open Hurdles will carry a bonus of £20,000 for 100% GBB fillies, C2 - C4 Open Hurdles will carry a bonus of £10,000 for 100% GBB fillies.
  • Both Mares-only and Open Chases covered by GBB will carry a £30,000 bonus for 100% GBB fillies.

50% GBB fillies will receive half the bonuses mentioned above.

Julio Coolio is 50% GBB so can qualify for up to £50,000 in bonuses. The owners share of the bonus is 65% with the remainder being shared between The trainer, jockey, stable staff, breeder and owner at the time of the yearling registration.

As a member of the club, you will receive your 1% share of the owners bonuses, per membership you have. This scheme, along with the excellent mares programme in Britain is a great incentive to own and race GBB fillies and mares.

Explain the 36 month commitment. What happens if..

36 months is the planned, most likely length of Julio Coolios racing career. As a well bred mare, the hope will be that she can prove her ability on the racecourse during her first three seasons in training. 36 months gives you a nice length of time to be involved in her racing journey. If we feel that she needs longer than this and she stays available in a form of shared ownership, we will give you first opportunity to continue the journey.

If Julio Coolio's racing career ends before the 36 month period, for any reason, we will close the club at the earliest opportunity and no further payments will be taken.

If Julio faces a long term absence from racing due to injury but has a good prognosis from the vets to return, we will make a plan depending on all the details available at the time. There will still be keep costs, vet costs, return to training costs etc. but we will also want to keep you entertained during any long term break from racing.
