October Trainers

October see's the changing of the guard from flat to NH, the Arc and Champions Day being the highlights of the month.  After a poor September we sit at +£66.68 LSP and it would have been worse but for a really strong end to the month.

We have 9 trainers in October (one spanning two codes), 5 return from last October, most are familiar faces.

GB FLAT TURF

RALPH BECKETT (2&3yo's)

Gave a small profit last year with his 2yo's, we will add his 3yo's this year.

  • 2017     3/22     14%     +£ 0.25
  • 2018     9/33     27%     +£ 3.41
  • 2019     8/32     25%     +£39.00
  • 2020    10/51    20%     +£28.00

He comes into the month on the back of a strong September, remember to omit his older horses, he's 2/35 and (£20.25) with 4yo+ horses over the above period.

Beckett Travellers

All his 2 and 3-year-olds should be noted but keep an eye out when he sends horses to the Northern and Scottish tracks..

HENRY CANDY (3yo+)

Back from last year where he provided a small profit, no coincidence that he performs well at this time of year as lots of his horses thrive on Soft ground.

  • 2015 3/14 21% +£16.00
  • 2016 3/20 15% +£3.50
  • 2017 4/11 36% +£9.75
  • 2018 2/18 11% (£0.25)
  • 2019 1/8 13% (£3.00)
  • 2020 1/14 7% +£5.00

His strike rate is becoming a bit troublesome but profit last year means we'll go again with him.

CHARLIE APPLEBY (2yo's)

It's going to be a big month for the yard with Adayar and Hurricane Lane running in the Arc, we'll be concentrating on his juveniles though.

  • 2017     7/18     39%     +£ 5.59
  • 2018     3/9       33%     +£ 0.60
  • 2019     2/9       22%      (£ 1.67)
  • 2020     7/17     41%     +£10.02

Nothing to worry about with this guy's strike rate, hopefully he can nab a big priced winner along the way.

CHARLIE FELLOWS (2&3yo's)

A pair of Charlie's for us this month, Fellows seems to be getting better year on year and his October stats back that up.

  • 2017     4/11     36%     +£3.00
  • 2018     3/12     25%     +£4.00
  • 2019     2/14     14%     (£3.50)
  • 2020     4/10     40%    +£19.25

A small blip in 2019 but back with a bang last year, he's 0/16 with his older horses over the same period.

GB NH

KIM BAILEY (ALL)

Back from last year where he provided a +£15.13 LSP.

  • 2017     4/33     12%     (£5.33)
  • 2018     9/22     41%    +£9.16
  • 2019     5/18     28%    +£14.43
  • 2020    13/45    29%     +£ 9.14

We managed to beat the SP by some 6 points using the early prices so it will pay to get on early.

BRIAN ELLISON (ALL)

It feel like a while since we've had the North Yorks trainer in the blog but he has a nice set of figures for October.

  • 2016     9/32     28%     +£ 2.92
  • 2017     7/36     19%     (£14.73)
  • 2018     0/10       0%    (£10.00)
  • 2019    10/19     53%    +£38.33
  • 2020     5/25      20%    +£ 6.00

Cracking stuff in the past 2 years after drawing a blank in 2018, comes into the month on the back of a profitable September.

GB AW

JOHN & THADY GOSDEN (ALL)

Back from last month and last year where he starred with a +£17.95 LSP.

  • 2016 5/17 29% +£6.97
  • 2017 7/24 29% +£4.94
  • 2018 7/23 30% +£3.30
  • 2019 13/42 31% +£2.67
  • 2020 10/40 25% +£9.41

We almost doubled the SP profit using Early Prices which is a little bit of a surprise with his runners as they are usually quite short, looking back he landed a 14's winner and a couple at 7's.

JOHN & THADY GOSDEN

More than 50% of their runners have placed on the All-Weather tracks in the last 5 years.

RALPH BECKETT (ALL)

Back for the AW section of the blog after featuring in the turf part earlier.

  • 2017     4/14     29%     +£ 4.19
  • 2018     3/16     19%      (£ 0.33)
  • 2019     5/24     21%     +£17.00
  • 2020     5/16     31%     +£12.10

Lovely set of figures, remember it's all his horses on the AW as opposed to his younger horses on turf.

ED WALKER (ALL)

Lambourne trainer who hasn't been quite as prominent this season having had the one time Derby favorite last year, still has some solid AW figures this month.

  • 2018     4/19     21%     +£15.50
  • 2019     5/27     19%      (£ 1.50)
  • 2020     5/29     17%     +£ 6.63

The figures only just fell short in 2019 and that probably would have been a profit using EP, should prove a useful addition.

IRISH NH

NOEL MEADE (ALL)

I made a note to include Meade this year dispite his (£8.38) LSP loss last year, he went close so many times with decent priced horse.

  • 2016     11/34     32%     +£ 7.25
  • 2017      9/42      21%     +£ 5.55
  • 2018      6/29      21%      (£ 2.00)
  • 2019     10/45     22%     +£13.47
  • 2020     15/63     24%      (£12.80)

Really consistent strike rate and massively unlucky last year with 15 seconds and 9 thirds, almost half his runners finished in the top two and he had 9 placed horses at 7's and above.

As always any contributions please leave below, hopefully we can get back on track this month and head back towards a three figure profit.

Results

1st - A nice start with winners for Beckett and Gosden.     2/4     +£0.78

2nd - A great start to the day with Fellows landing the sprint at 11's (8's after r4) then nothing but Meade had a close second backed at 18's returned 8's.     1/13     (£3.75)

3rd - Quiet day, no winners.     0/4     (£4.00)

4th - One runner, one winner, big EP gains, backed at 11/2 returned 5/2!     1/1     +£5.50

5th - Another day that started well with an Appleby winner then nothing.     1/11     (£7.00)

6th - A solid evening on the AW, winners at 12's, 7/4 and 2's to add to the Ellison shorty in the afternoon.     4/12     +£8.75

7th - Nothing to shout about today.     0/2     (£2.00)

8th - Nice day, Bailey started it off with a Chaser to follow (Does He Know) and big EP gains from the Beckett winner.     2/9     +£6.00

9th - Appleby stole the show today with a hat trick at Newmarket.     3/7     +£2.13

10th - Cracking day, Appleby with another 5's winner and Beckett landing the last at 8's (returned 11/2).     2/6     +£9.00

11th - One of those pivotal days, I think you need around 4-6 of these per year to end in profit.  Fellows landed a 16's winner that we bet at 40's with 365 in the morning.     1/11                 +£30.00

I've amended results slightly as I realised I had bet two Appleby 3yo's in error on the 8th (loser and 3's winner)

12th - Couple of winners today, small loss.     2/9     (£1.67)

13th - Nothing today but a couple of seconds.     0/7     (£7.00)

14th - Just the one runner/loser.     0/1     (£1.00)

15th - Started with a Beckett winner, then nothing, small loss.     1/5     (£0.67)

16th - Blank Saturdays are never good, positive was we didn't have too many runners for a Saturday, negative was none even got close.     0/8     (£8.00)

17th - An Ellison double with nice EP gains gave us a winning day.     2/5     +£2.25

Monthly Results

22/114      19.30%       +£29.32

Yearly Results
