The Netherlands and Serbia are competing for a spot in the quarter-finals of the World Championship. Serbia is the slight favourite to win, but they are coming off a 3-1 loss to Japan. The Netherlands have won all three of their group games, the last being a 3-2 victory over Thailand. The Netherlands also defeated Serbia 3-1 in their previous official match. This time, I expect a closer game, with the same winner.

Japan and Thailand recently faced off in the Nations League, where Japan emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 win. Thailand will be looking for revenge this time. In that match, Thailand impressively led 2-0 after the first two sets, which gives me confidence that they can overcome a stronger team like Japan. In the group stage, Thailand defeated Sweden and Egypt and pushed the Netherlands to five sets in a 3-2 loss. Just a few weeks ago, they also recorded Nations League wins against France, Bulgaria, and the Dominican Republic.

Thailand’s last victory over Japan also ended in a 3-2 scoreline. I’m backing Thailand to win 3-2 here, given the tempting odds.

Italy takes on Germany in the Round of 16 at the World Cup. The two teams recently met in the Nations League, where Italy claimed a 3-2 victory. Germany will be looking for revenge after leading 1-0 and 2-1 in that match. Italy is a strong opponent, so if Germany wins, it will likely come in a deciding set. While Germany did beat Italy 3-1 in a friendly back in May, this time I’m predicting a hard-fought 3-2 win for Germany.
