Wu Yize is undoubtedly one of the up-and-coming stars of the game, but I feel the bookies have made him too short to beat multiple ranking-event winner Mark Allen. The Northern Irishman has been inconsistent recently, but he tends to enjoy these events where the matches are slightly longer (best of eleven from the first round), and he has a slight advantage on the head-to-heads. Just on value, Allen is the call in this match.

Williams holds the advantage on the head-to-heads, but he's looked out of sorts recently, failing to win a match in the main draw of the World Grand Prix, German Masters, and the Masters. Hawkins hasn't advanced very far either in those events. Given how out of form Williams has looked, there seems to be a bit of value with Hawkins at the odds against.

Xiao Guodong has been playing really well lately, making the semi-final in Hong Kong where he defeated Kyren Wilson, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Si Jiahui before losing out to eventual winner Zhao Xintong. Guodong has already won an event this season (Wuhan Open in August) and, crucially, he seems to be in the easier half of the draw in Telford.

Mark Allen has been an extremely frustrating player to follow with some hard-to-understand defeats. The fact remains that he has won at least one ranking event every year going back to 2019. He has won twelve ranking events in total, together with a Masters and two Champion of Champions titles, and he has already won an event this season (English Open). The nature of the tour at the moment sees multiple different winners of events with no one player dominating. Odds of 22/1 (and bigger on the exchanges) look big given Allen tends to win as often as the likes of Robertson and Selby, who are much shorter.
