Melbourne Renegades v Brisbane Heat

Over 10.5 sixes @ 5/6 (William Hill)
Shahid Afridi top Renegades batsman @ 8/1 (Various)

Interesting game this with both teams needing a win to stay in the faint hunt for a finals place. There's also the added intrigue of a match scheduled to be played with the roof closed which means that thanks to a recent rule change if the ball hits the roof it's a six! The roof is 38 meters high and according to Renegades coach Simon Helmot on their website it's quite reachable:
Quote:
Helmot . . . admitted they had tried their hands at hitting the roof at training this week.
"They all can do it at training. Most of the warm-up now is spent just trying to hit the ball vertically," Helmot said.

Darren Lehman is also expecting both sides to go for it:
Quote:
Heat coach, former Test batsman Darren Lehmann, said the match was certain to be entertaining because "we must be aggressive, and so must they".

The Renegades have averaged over 5 sixes per game and the Heat slightly lower with 4 per game, but with both teams in a must win situation, the ground seeing 33 sixes in the 2 games already played here and with the roof as a seemingly reachable target I'm expecting more big shots and hopefully the higher line can be covered.

It also appears Shahid Afridi has asked to be moved up the order and his request may be fulfilled. 'Boom Boom' hasn't really been utilised in the batting this tourney but with the Renegades hopefully going for broke he may get his chance to shine. Andrew MacDonald said of the Pakistani allrounder:
Quote:
“I know a few of the boys are keen to test their arm at hitting the roof during training. I’m sure Glenn Maxwell and Shahid Afridi will be right amongst it, and Shahid has already said he’s looking forward to giving it a go during a match,”

If Afridi does get his chance up the order as seems likely he's an experienced, effective runscorer and the 8/1 on offer will look great value.

Interesting rumour about Afridi moving up the order.....where did it come from, may I ask ?

If you shop around you can get 11/1 on Afridi for Renegades Top Bat.

good to see the moving Afridi up the order, he did it pretty well for Hampshire last year and though he didn't score massively today he did his job perfectly. no complaints with 26 from 14 balls then out.

6's bet comes in with 10 overs to spare Win

Thanks to William Hill for their fine generosity

Brisbane Heat v Sydney Thunder

Gayle top Sydney batsman @ 7/4

Considering Sydney's dire batting performances so far (Gayle excluded) and Gayle's outstanding performances with the willow over the past 12 months this is surely an even money shot at best? Apparently not in the opinion of the odds compilers, and though some bookmakers are as low as 5/4 on the big West Indian Ladbrokes are offering a mighty generous 7/4.
Throw into the mix Brisbane's mediocre bowling (only batsman Chris Lynn has an ER below 7.7) and Henry has a great opportunity to overtake Travis Birt as the tournament's top runscorer, at least for a short time.

double header tomorrow:

Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Renegades

I think Melbourne are good value here. Hobart have a good team and have performed well but I think their bowling has been a bit weak. This is a high scoring ground and I think they may struggle to restrict a Melbourne team with a lot of big hitting potential.

Melbourne Renegades @ 2.2 (StanJames)

The ground has also seen plenty of 6's and with plenty of big hitting players inclduing the majorly inform Birt and Shah for Hobart I expect to see plenty here.

Over 10.5 6's @ 1.83 (William Hill)

Melbourne Stars v Adelaide Strikers

Over 7.5 sixes @ 10/11 (SkyBet)
James Franklin top Adelaide batsman @ 8/1 (SkyBet)

With players like Wright, Hussey and Quiney in their line up The Stars have a decent chance of covering the sixes line on their own, but with Adelaide's hitters now including James Franklin alongside Harris and Blizzard I think we can expect 8 or more sixes even at a ground that has only seen 20 sixes in the 3 games played here so far, especially with both sides needing the win.
I also think that with Adelaide's batsmen misfiring new boy Franklin could be worth backing to top score for them. He's been playing T20 in New Zealand and averaged just under 33 in his last 5 innings. If he can reproduce that kind of hitting he'll be in with a decent shout here at more than fair odds to outperform the rest of the so far mediocre Strikers batting.

didn't see this tip till now andy, MCG really isn't much of a 6 hitting ground though.

the low line was tempting but didn't feel there'd be many in this.

I did under 3.5 for Adelaide in the first innings but didn't have anything on overall.

doing my nuts with a poor back of Adelaide first innings instead! Crying or Very sad No Excuse, I could have traded out for small profit after the 3rd wicket
