The Rascal Should Make It 2nd Time Lucky This Evening

Horse Racing 7:20 Leicester

21/05 19:20

For the last few weeks the men in the Invictus syndicate have been waiting for the perfect time to finally get rid of his maiden tag.
He made a nearly perfect debut when heading left towards the end and being beaten by Englishman in Newbury.
Since then he's been primed to do the job and was supposed to have a go after the guineas in Newmarket but the ground was too soft.
Good to soft should suit a bit better than the soft on day one and he'll be seen a bit better with better ground.
He's got a job tonight to book a ticket to one of the races in Royal Ascot. Even though the odds are sharp enough I think it's seriously good value at this stage. It's a penalty kick and I've emptied the Betfair account on it. I'm sure the person who layed the 4 quid against me will be shaking at the thought.

One For The Home Fans Cabrera-Bello Could Use Decent Form To Go Far This Week

Golf Volvo World Matchplay

20/05 10:00

Rafa Cabrera Bello looks a lively outsider this week in the Volvo Matchplay. He's in with Martin Kaymer and Richard Finch in the Seve Ballesteros Pool and if the Spaniard didn't need enough reason to perform in front of the home crowd the fact that he's in the pool named after the great one.
He's been doing ok this season and is just outside the top 10 in the race to Dubai after finishing 3rd in the Malaysian Open a few weeks ago and winning the Dubai Desert Classic beating 3 of the World's Top 4 in the process.
He enjoys the sun, he enjoys the heat so the next few days should suit him down to the grand. Nobody will expect much from him so I can see him being a huge banana skin for Martin Kaymer and if he can get into the knockouts he'll go close enough to doing the business.

Tom Lewis Could Use Matchplay Experience To Go Far

Golf Volvo World Matchplay

20/05 10:00

Tom Lewis is in the Gary Player Pool along with John Senden and defending champion Ian Poulter. Poulter can be in a different league when it comes to matchplay as he's shown in the Accenture and the Ryder Cup in the past although at times he can get caught out and I think he's better off in straight knock out rather than round robin system.
The other in the group John Senden will be a tricky customer but I think Lewis' huge matchplay experience belies his years and after his massive win at the start of his professional career in Portugal he has shown a liking to this part of the continent.
I think he can get a decent start here and should use all his know how to try to cause a few shocks before he gets into the knock out stages and from there he could beat anyone.
I think he's a massive price and could be one with a back to lay policy.

Karlsson Could Be A Decent Value Shot To Go Far In The Matchplay

Golf Volvo World Matchplay

20/05 10:00

Looking through the profiles of who tend to go well in this tournament since it's move to sunnier climbs and with the new look format that's a bit of an acquired taste but nevertheless, it seems either experienced campaigners with tee to green abilities or young guns hoping to make a mark with Fisher & Kim getting to the final in 2009 and Poulter & Donald making it to the final last year.
Karlsson is in the Larson group with Graeme McDowell and Jbe Kruger and Kruger could be the one to fall away there although if McDowell hits a flat spot he could come a cropper too.
Once it gets to the knockout stages you should have 16 players who should be playing decent golf and really a bit of value is what you can look for. Karlsson in matchplay can be sublime at times and if he can get his game going he can intimidate the opponents.
He could do well this weekend and is a decent price.

Clarke Could Return To Form Back In A Format He Enjoys

Golf Volvo World Matchplay

20/05 10:00

Darren Clarke is certainly a golfer you could call hot and cold at the best of times. Mostly cold of late a return to matchplay could bring the form back to his game.
When he won the Open last year he was like as if he was at home in the wind and on the links he seemed extremely comfortable and with the matchplay format he has always found extra performance out of himself because he's more comfortable in a head to head situation where he can have a howler or two and still win the match.
I don't know if the round robin format will necessarily make the most of his skills but it's not the strongest of groups with Justin Rose making the return back to Europe and Robert Rock who hasn't kicked on since winning earlier this season and I think if he can get to the knockout stages he could go close to winning this.

76ers Could Take Another Step Towards A Bit Run In The Playoffs

Basketball BOS Celtics @ PHI 76ers

17/05 00:03

Philadelphia 76ers probably could be forgiven for thinking they were going to be on holidays at this stage of the season but after Derek Rose disappeared in Game 1 of the first round they seemed to take on a different guise ripping the top seeded Bulls apart 4-1 afterwards winning all their 3 home games.
Boston had a tough series against Atlanta and were only 1-2 on the road and relied on a strong home record.
Their home record is gone now after being pipped by the 76ers they could be rattled and considering that Philadelphia have hammered Boston twice in March at home by an average of 20+ points per game I can't see the momentum, home advantage and overall form going against Philadelphia.
I can see this game being pretty standard for Phili as they try to hammer home a huge advantage.

76ers Could Prove A Tricky Team To Beat At Their Home Patch

Basketball BOS Celtics @ PHI 76ers

17/05 00:03

Boston Celtics travel to Philadelphia for a game with the tie level after 2 games so far. In the regular season they met twice in the month of March in Philadelphia and the 76ers ran out winners on both occasions with a serious margin both times.
At the start of the month they won 103-71 and then at the end met again and won 99-86.
In round 1 Boston won 4-2 against the Hawks while Philadelphia had the shock of the series beating number 1 seed Chicago 4-2. Philadelphia were 3-3 from their home games in that series while Boston were 1-2 from their series away against Atlanta.
Two close games in the first 2 could only be separated by a point in each of them with Boston winning 92-91 in the first game and Philadelphia won 82-81 in the second. I think the return to Philadelphia could make a huge difference and could see the 76ers running out big winners and see them take a huge step towards another shock.

Step Up In Trip Could Book Twirl's Epsom Ticket

Horse Racing 2:30 York

16/05 14:30

Looking at the profile of Twirl it's one of those horses that Aidan O'Brien might fancy to do something big this season.
Lightly raced last year she looked extremely impressive on her 2nd start when winning her maiden at Leopardstown.
She didn't see the course again until she started as a favourite for the Express Stakes but she finished ahead of some decent enough horses that day.
She was just behind fresh and tough Chrysanthemum who actually finished behind Twirl's sister Misty For Me a few times during her juvenile career.
Ground and distance wouldn't have suited Twirl and I think she would have still been a bit green. Aidan O'Brien's horses are flying at the moment and while The Fugue ran ok in the guineas and is also bred well I reckon Twirl should be able to have a little bit more class and O'Brien could be able to tell the level of respective abilities from the guineas run.

Chjimes Looks To Have Far Too Much To Do At These Weights

Horse Racing 2:20 Lingfield

16/05 14:20

Conor Dore broke a bit of a poor run of form of late with a win for Efistorm in Kempton last night. Before that his horses looked badly out of form and I think last night could have been a bit of a fluke. He's completely outdone at the weights here and considering the best treated at the weights is Jake The Snake and is rated 10lbs higher than Chjimes and the favourite has to carry 5lbs more than his rival I think that he's got too much on his plate today.
I think even if Jake The Snake makes a mistake Zip Lock is still 4lbs better off and even Finfrenzyrolling is 1lb better off and 4lbs if you include the claim so really unless they've more than a stone found from the sky you really would have to say that he's seriously up against it in a tricky race and at the prices offered you can't back with any confidence.

Strong Weight Pull Should Give Pensioner Jake The Snake A Chance

Horse Racing 2:20 Lingfield

16/05 14:20

Jake The Snake is definitely in the Autumn of his career but his trainer Richard Guest has found an opportunity here to give him a nice win at the weights on offer.
I think looking at the field the likely favourite Chjimes is badly treated at the weights and offers no value whatsoever which leaves Zip Lock and Jake The Snake the ones to choose from. Zip Lock has relative youth but Jake The Snake is 5lbs less than that horse and is rated 6lbs better giving him an 11lb swing which I think will make a pretty big difference and with Riflessione missing from the line up then it really opens it up for Jake The Snake who I think looks the one to beat. It's a sharp enough distance for him so if it's a slow pace it won't suit but I think it should be brisk enough and he should go close.

Weights Looks Decent For Legal Legacy

Horse Racing 1:50 Lingfield

16/05 13:50

Looking through the field here Spinning Ridge looks in good enough form at the moment. I think he's weighted nicely but there's one that's weighted just a bit better and that's Legal Legacy.
He seems to have been backed to show that the last few runs have been out of character as he should enjoy the trip around Lingfield on his first trip around the course and in fairness to Legal Legacy being by Beat Hollow he should enjoy the artificial stuff.
Distance wise I think he will be at his absolute minimum so a stamina test will be needed and if the pace is on early he'll really enjoy it.
I think David Griffiths is back in form with 2 wins from his last 3 runners and Kirsty Milczarek has her last winner on one of Griffiths horses. They can team up again here and go very close.

Lens Desperate For Vital Win Against Fellow Strugglers Le Havre

French 2 Lens v Le Havre

30/04 19:30

Lens against Le Havre is a real relegation 6 pointer at the foot of the French 2nd division. It's hard to believe that this is the same Lens side that were competing in the Champions League a few years ago.
Le Havre have had an awful run having only picked up 2 points from a possible 30 in their last 10 away games.
I think they are going to have tough game ahead of them tonight as they need the win and a draw would be good enough for Lens in the battle at the bottom.
Lens should be able to suck the life out of the Le Havre side and hit them on the counter attack to win the game.
There might not be too many goals in this one but I expect the Lens men to run out comfortable winners by a goal or 2 here. Then I should expect that Lens should cover the spread here.
