The Scottish Championship (currently known as the Ladbrokes Championship due to sponsorship) is the second tier of Scottish soccer and consists of 10 teams who play each other home and away twice so 36 league matches are played in total during the regular season, the champions are automatically promoted to the Scottish Premiership.

Reformed in 2013 as part of the Scottish Professional Soccer League merger between the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Soccer League, the promotion playoffs take place between the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placed teams at the end of the regular season, they are all two-legged affairs starting with the 3rd and 4th placed playing each other and the winner then playing the 2nd placed team. The winner then plays the team that finished 11th (second bottom) in the Scottish Premiership, over two legs to decide who plays in the Scottish Premiership.

The bottom club in the Scottish Championship is relegated to Scottish League One and a relegation playoff over two legs takes place between the 9th placed club (second bottom) and the winner of the Scottish League One promotion playoff to decide who will play in the Scottish Championship.
