Happy Valley Racing Picks

The racetrack was created to serve the British people who were living in Hong Kong but soon become a favorite for the growing popularity of the Chinese people.

The racetrack features just a turf track, there are small chutes for 5f and 6f races but there are no races over the straight at the racetrack.

With a seven-story grandstand, the capacity of the racetrack is around about 55,000. There are also football, rugby, and hockey fields within the complex.

Races at Happy Valley are run on either:

• 1000m (5f)
• 1200m (6f)
• 1650m (extended 8f)
• 1800m (1m1f)
• 2200m (1m3f)

All of the Group 1 races in Hong Kong are held at the Sha Tin racetrack, as are all the Group 2 races.

There is one Group 3 race held at Happy Valley and that is the January Cup, a race that is run over 1m1f for horses who are rated 90+.
