Which baseball leagues and events do you cover picks for?

Here on OLBG, we cover the Major League Baseball, better known as simply the MLB as well as the leagues in Japan (NPB) and the league in South Korea (KBO).

The MLB is the oldest of the four major sports in the US and consists of both National and American leagues. With each team playing around 160 games during the regular you can expect MLB Picks on most days during the season.

Additionally, once the season is over, we will then have MLB predictions for the Wild Card games and the playoff games.

Finally, finishing the season off with the World Series predictions from our baseball tipsters. You can see who our tipsters are picking to win this year's World Series above.

Check out our Baseball Betting Guides and Blogs for useful pointers and additional guidance with the above baseball picks before deciding on your baseball wagers.

Best Baseball Predictions

There are three markets for the MLB Picks which are as follows:

Money Line: Which team will win! As simple as that, the majority of bookmakers include any extra innings but be sure to check.

Run Line: In the Asian Handicap of baseball, one team is given a head-start, the other a deficit. A -1.5 line would need to win by 2+ runs, a +1.5 line would need to better a 2-run defeat.

You may have seen the term 'against the spread' for MLB picks, this means betting on the underdog on Run Line, the team that has a deficit to make up.

Game Total: How many runs will there be in the game. You will have the option of over that total or under the total. Again extra innings are included by most sportsbooks.

You can find each scheduled game on this page, with each game the best bet for the game is highlighted. This is the outcome over the three markets which has received the most predictions.

You can see how many predictions the outcome has compared to the total number on the market. This results in a confidence rating which is the percentage of picks for the outcome.

This percentage is then used along with the current odds to give you a 'Value Rating'. This is displayed by a five-star rating, the more stars, the more value.

Free Total Runs Predictions

There are so many factors that can come into play when wagering on the total run line, like many other sports weather can be a massive factor in this and this is the same if, for example, you are looking for NFL Totals Picks where the weather can be a major factor on the result.

If you are looking to hit into a headwind out to the left wall at Wrigley Field then you are going to struggle making the 355m to get it out of the park and the pitchers will know this and will try to make you hit into the headwind.

Alternatively, the headwind might not play as much of a factor if you are looking to do the same at Fenway Park as the left-field wall is 45m closer (310m). This means the weather can play a major part in selecting whether to go over or under the line depending on which stadium the game is being played at.

Did You Know?

Comerica Park, from of the Detroit Tigers has the furthest center field wall in the MLB measuring a total of 420m with a 9ft wall whilst the home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park has the shortest at 390m with an 18ft wall.

Wigley Field (355m), Coors Field (347m), Angel Stadium (347m) & Comerica Park (345m) have the longest left-field walls whilst Fenway Park (310m), Tropicana Field (315m), Minute Maid Park (315m) and Yankee Stadium (318m) have the shortest distance to the left-field walls.

These factors are what our expert MLB tipsters look at when giving their free MLB picks on today's games and, of course, it goes the other way too for those who predominately hit out to right-field, Wigley Field (353m) is once again the longest and Fenway Park (302m) is once again the shortest.

There is another factor which you have to consider too along with the distance it is to the wall which is the height of the wall itself! Fenway Park may have the shortest left-field wall but it's also the largest wall there is in the MLB at 37ft!

Does Altitude play a part in the number of runs? Coors Field is by far the highest stadium at a 1,579m altitude and has been the stadium in recent years to produce the most average runs per game so do not let the high altitude put you off.

Action or Listed?

Some sportsbooks will state the starting pitcher of each team at the time you place the bet and will offer the 3 markets above as either action or listed.

If you take the action bet, then regardless of who starts the game (It is not uncommon for starting pitchers to be changed) your bet will remain in play.

However, the sportsbooks will likely recalculate the odds to account for the change of pitcher.

An alternative option is to take the listed wager. If you take the listed wager and either of the starting pitchers changes then your bet becomes void and stakes are returned.

This is a nice bit of protection to have, especially if you have backed an ace and then he is withdrawn for a spot starter.

Key Baseball Stats To Consider

Successful baseball tipsters will have all bases covered when it comes to selecting their best baseball picks. OLBG's best baseball tipsters selections are from those showing the best profit over the last 12 months.

Naturally, to win a game of baseball you need to be able to score runs and often the top run-scorers are the divisional winners.

The most common pitching stat you will see is ERA. This is Earned Run Average and is the number of earned runs a pitcher gives up over 9 innings. Anything under 4.00 is considered to be good with anything under 3.00 excellent.

Another useful stat is WHIP (Walks and hits per inning pitched). This gives you an indication of how many times a pitcher puts a runner on base each inning. A good WHIP would be around 1.20 which equates to almost 11 base runners per game.

Another state to look at is quality starts. A quality start in baseball is when a starting pitcher pitches at least 6 innings and allows no more than 3 earned runs. A pitcher with a high percentage of quality starts is likely to give you a good run for your money.

The On-Base Percentage is the number of times that a team reaches base, either with a hit, walk or hit by pitch. A good team OBP would be around .325 as this equates to approximately 13 runners on base per game.
