The features of a slot game are what make it the most appealing for players. We want to be entertained and also get a window into the potential for a game to pop-off, so let's take a look at what Gonzo's Quest megaways has in store for us.
Theme - Aztec
Gonzos megaways slot remains on the Aztec Quest theme, how could it be anything else?; with various images of heads and symbols crashing down from above and hopefully connecting in a horizontal manner with the megaways aspect expanding on the original.
Reels
The reels are unique, or at least unique when NetEnt first released the original, avalanche-style cascade.
Horizontally we have 6 reels, each of which can contain up to 7 symbols each
Paylines
The megaways 6x7 format allows for a potential of 117,649 pay lines. Something that is not often witnessed, but happens with more frequency than some other megaways titles, which never seem to reach potential.
However, getting all 42 potential symbols showing, does not even guarantee a win. But when it does, the cascades can be substantial, increasing the chance for the mystery and scatter symbols to fall into place to trigger the free spins feature.
RTP
The RTP is dependent on the casino, not many people realise that you may be getting a lower RTP on the same game depending on which casino you are playing.
We have done that work for you and have found that some casinos have Gonzo's Quest Megways set as low as 90%, whereas at All British Casino you can play at 95.98% RTP
Stake Range
Gonzo's Quest Megaways is one of the few slots with quite a limited maximum stake of just £4.00 - That would still more than comfortably cover most players, whilst you can also stake as low as 20p per spin
Max Win
The calculated maximum multiplier of the game is x20972.40 - This is theoretical, but yes, the Max win on Gozo's megaways is over 20,000 times stake.
Great Max Win of 20,000x
You'll be very lucky to see a max win on this game, but 1000x is fairly common from chatter around forums and YouTube videos - Good luck with those free falls
Win Multiplier
When a win is achieved in the base game, the winning symbols will explode and be replaced with a new avalanche. Something that is really cool, is the Wild Symbol are 'Unbreakable', they do not explode and remain to help you get the next win and move up the win multiplier meter (On the top Right) to a maximum of 5x multiplier the base game win after 4 consecutive winning avalanches.
Random Feature
The Earthquake bonus feature can trigger randomly at any time. If you hear thunder and see the slot start to shake, this is a sign of an Earthquake where all low-paying symbols get destroyed and are replaced with premium stones.
Expectedly, this does not always guarantee a big win, and indeed, frustratingly, sometimes does not result in a win at all.
Special Symbols
There are two special symbols to look out for, one is the scatter, which helps you progress to the 'free fall' round, but also there are wild symbols, (With big, golden question marks) -
What is cool about the wild symbol on Gonzo's Quest Megaways is that they will count as a scatter, which is a rarity. However, there is a caveat
Free Fall Feature
The Free Fall feature is the Free Spins round on Gonzo's Quest Megaways, and is triggered by at least three scatters, or two scatters and one wild, appearing on the first three reels.
Three scatters elsewhere will not trigger free spins. Something we are not aware of until it happens and we have a sense of confusion about what's going on.
Anyway, free spins can be awarded in quantities of 9, 12, 15 or 18 depending on the number of scatters appearing on consecutive reels.
One additional feature of the free spins round si that the avalanche multiplier, which is set at x1, x2, x3, x5 in the base game, is increased to x3, x6, x8 and x15 for consecutive winning avalanches in the bonus game.
Jackpot
There is no direct jackpot associated with this game unless part of a daily drop or progressive group promotion at certain casinos.
Play Experience & First Impressions
I have to be honest and say I was never a huge fan of the original slot of Gonzo's Quest, perhaps because of the volatility or the unique gameplay which was one of the first to introduce the now-trademarked Avalance reels. However, given I am a fan of many megaways titles, and knew this was going to be sitting under the Red Tiger productions after the acquisition by NetEnt, I was excited as to how it would play.
The most obvious improvement is the look of the game, it has crisp graphics and the sounds are engaging, and do not grate on you, even after a lengthy playing session.
The first time Gonzo wandered across the screen to pick up a coin, I thought I had some special feature about to be triggered, but after he completed this trip some 12 times with nothing happening, I realized it was just an animation, which quite frankly, offers nothing to the game. by the same token, it takes nothing away.

I was not aware that three scatters had to fall on reels, 1, 2 & 3, and of course, had three appear only to be confused when the free spins feature failed to start. A slight annoyance, but once understood, it's fine.
You also get quite a lot of bonus baits with the first two scatters or a scatter and wild, and then the slow spin. I prefer to be baited in this way rather than rarely see the scatters, but that's just personal preference.
Wins are relatively frequent if not mindblowing, but that's medium volatility for you, but you can get a 20 spin run of nothing, so be prepared for that.
And getting four consecutive wins to trigger the x5 multiplier is fairly common too, just don't expect to hit premiums at that point very often.
Overall first impressions are that this is a really good-looking and sounding slot game, and has enough win frequency to keep you engaged and entertained.
