One A Day November Race 2 (16th to 30th)

ONE A DAY NOVEMBER 2021 RACE 2 (15th to 30th)

Hello and welcome to the One A Day competition for November. Regular runners will have a good idea of how this works already but for maiden runners and for those with plenty of experience please read on as there are a couple of subtle changes this month.

How It Works

Nothing has changed in terms of how we run the race. They'll be two races each month. The first will run from the 1st day of the month to the 15th with the second running from the 16th of the month to the last day of the month. Each day a race will be nominated and you are asked to provide a selection for this race. You must also give reasons for your selection but please note the following as this is crucial:

Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites. YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPARATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.

You need to make this reasoning at least 30 words but feel free to be as detailed as you like.

Please also note the following information:
- Do not edit your post once made.
- If your selection is a non-runner you can select again but please do this in a separate post.
- You can post a backup selection in case your first selection is a non-runner and you don't believe you'll be able to update your selection in the case of a non-runner. However, if your first selection runs then that is the one that will be scored.
- Failing to post a selection will see you not scored for that race. You can PM myself or another member to post on your behalf but again, the selection must be posted before the race starts.
- On the last race day if the competition is tight those in contention can PM me their selections and I'll hold them until the race starts. If I'm involved then I'll ask for a neutral to step forward and hold the selections until the off. This is so copying a fellow runners selection to assure the win/place is avoided.
- If a day's nominated race is on a card that is abandoned we will have two races the following day. If this occurs on the last day of the race we'll run an extra race the following day whilst also starting a new competition.

Selecting Races - Back to one thread (for each race)

After discussions with regular runners in our races via PM it's clear that the thread a day isn't too popular and that you would all like some input in picking races so we'll revert back to one thread for picks and you can all have input in picking races. I've started the new thread (we'll do a thread for race 1 then a new thread for race 2 so it's easier for me to trace back for selections as I score up the races). I will usually pick the first race and the Saturday races but feel free to offer a race up if I seem to be taking my time.

I reserve the right to void a race if circumstances significantly change the dynamics of the race - ie, multiple late withdrawn horses significantly reducing the field (below 6 runners).

Hope that makes sense, any questions ask here or PM me.

Please note, when selecting races, please refrain from MAIDENS/NOVICE events including BEGINNER CHASES as these can be difficult in placing a reasoning to. Handicaps and higher class races (listed, graded or group) are preferred but please try to find a race with a competitive sized field.

We score as in previous months:
1st = 30pts + 5x SP
2nd = 20pts + 3x SP
3rd = 10pts + 2x SP
4th = 4pts + 1 x SP
5th = 1pts + 1 x SP

To encourage people to look away from favourites as well there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 40pts (30 for winning and then 5 times 2/1 is 10 -> 30+10=40) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 50pts (20+30=50).

Please note, scores will be rounded up to one decimal place from January's second race!

Dead heats - the points of the places are added together and divided by the number that dead heated. i.e. if 1st place is a dead heat then both 1st placed will get 25 pts (30+20pts) and x4 SP (5+3/2 = 4).

Results and leaderboard
I will update this thread with race results and they'll be contained in the post directly after this one and an updated leaderboard. I hope to do this every three days and daily towards the end of the race but please be patient as occasionally life will get in the way of me doing this promptly.

In the event of any ties for prizes, the tied runners will be split by their highest scoring selection for the month, regardless of actual finishing position (ie, a 1st place scoring 100 pts does not outrank a 2nd place scoring 120 pts).

Please also check your scores. Mistakes do happen, I am only human. I keep the scores on a Excel spreadsheet (which I can access from my home and work so it's easy for me to keep it updated). Any scoring queries please PM myself rather than posting in either this thread or one of the daily selection threads.

Those generous powers that be at OLBG are offering up cash prizes for the runners and riders:
1st place overall - £10
2nd place overall - £5

***Player with the highest combined score over both races in a month who has not already won a prize £5 ***

If you know anyone interested in taking part or you've been a long time viewer of the forum who hasn't been inclined - for whatever reasons - to post much before please come and have a go, it is great fun, costs nothing and you can win real cash!! Take a look through previous month races/threads to see

Well what can I say about Dicky, what an amazing start to the race with a 50/1 2nd on the first day and the winners on both following days meaning he has a score usually not reached until the final stages of the race and if he carries on he could breach the 1000 mark let alone the magic 500, well done I hope you had real money on them. Jamma001 is in 2nd place after he also scored on all three days along with Delboy980 and Scratville and we have four players in th 100's as well as Dicky off the scale.
I missed today's race as I was sorting cattle out for sale and pulled a muscle in my leg so hobbling about now to go with my already sore arm which makes it hard to hold my tablet and to cap it all I had chosen the winner😫

Good luck all :win:

Dicky is still in the lead but Igoruk is catching up as Dicky only scored once in the three days whereas Igoruk scored on all three days including a very nice 16/1 winner yesterday giving him 110 points. I also got the same horse boosting me up to 4th with Jamma001 in 3rd. Rondetto was the only other to score on all three days. We all missed the 16/1 winner today. I think I have scored the dead heat correct but please feel free to correct me if wrong.

Good luck all :win:

Dicky continues to march on relentlessly scoring on all three days again stretching his lead from Igoruk who scored on two days. Meoldmate also scored on all three days. We all missed the highest score of the three days but Rondetto got the consolation second highest on the first day.

Good luck all :win:

Dicky continues to score well selecting the winner on the first day. Getting to be a bit of a tussle for the 2nd place with only 34.26 separating the next three players with Igoruk hanging on in 2nd after drawing a blank on the three days but Flitty is catching up with the highest scorer on the first day and one of the four who scored on the third day. Biggest improver of the three days is Thefinalbroadcast who jumped up from 16th to 7th after selecting the 40/1 2nd on the middle day giving him 140 points. Nobody scored on all three days.

Good luck all :win:

Dicky has passed the magic 500 mark after scoring again today but Jamma001 is in 2nd place after he got today's winner with Flitty in 3rd after he also scored today.
2nd place is still wide open.

Good luck all :win:

No change at the top with Dicky not scoring but has enough of a lead. Jamma001 selected today's winner stretching his lead for 2nd place but not unassailable and I got today's highest scorer.

Good luck all :win:

Congratulations and well done to Dicky on winning the second race of the month with an impressive score. He had the race sewn up from the start with the 50/1 2nd place on the first day but also scored on 10 of the 15 days including 6 winners. Congratulations and well done also goes to Jamma001 on securing the 2nd place jumping into the runner up spot after decent scores on two of the last three days in what was a fairly tight race for second spot.

🥇Dicky £10
🥈Jamma001 £5

Bonus prize goes to Scratville who scored the most combined points who didn't win a prize in either race. Congratulations and well done for consistent scoring.

Good luck all and thank you all for taking the time to enter our little competition :win:

Ayr 1.05
This gelding's form figures at Ayr read 1P351113.
He returns from a break having been on the go for more than 12 months without one and has won first time out in the past.
Ardera Cross has won hurdles at 2 and 2.5 miles and likes give in the ground. He has won a big field handicap hurdle carrying 11-9 and likes a flat track. Today's conditions should suit.
He has won chases this year but not won over hurdles since 2019 and has dropped 20 pounds in the weights since his last hurdling success.
His small stable does well here and he could get in the points at a price.

This P A Kirby trained gelding was a well backed favourite but looked a shade unlucky in his latest race over two miles five furlongs on good to soft ground at Wetherby 18 days ago when badly hampered by the reopposing Flexi Furlough before the second last to finish 1 length in second behind the Olly Murphy trained Rock The House so with Thomas Dowson back onboard he looks sure to make a bold bid today

Ayr 1:05 Ardera Cross
Consistent to a point, but not close in recent times over fences. However, back over hurdles off a mark of 7lb lower than current declining chase mark. Yard do not have the most runners, but they have a 50% strike rate (67% place rate) here in the last year with three winners and a further place. Craig Nichol rides here, and he has a 28% place rate in the last month, and a 29% place rate here in the lsat five years.

Petite Rhapsody

Petite Rhapsody ran his best race so far when runner up over course and distance last time.This horse is only upped two pound for that run and might have plenty more improvement to come.The selection and the winner last time pulled away from the rest of the field and with the ground in his favour here there is no reason he can not run well again.

Flexi Furlough.
i think this horse has nothing to find with fav in race,
i know people will say he got caried left in that race but this is shorter and i think he could be better at this distance, and also the 7lb claimer with so much weight could be massive differance.
stable are flying this month also which just makes me believe you will see more from this one tomorrow.
i think this track will suit him better to.

Thanks as always, Jan

1.05 Ayr - Snowed In

Incredibly experienced veteran, he has won 6 times over hurdles and has finished in the first three 37 times from 92 starts over hurdles. 4th of 10 at Carlisle over 2 miles 4 furlongs in October on his last appearance, he last won at Sedgefield in May. Just one previous run at Ayr when he placed with today’s jockey on board, over virtually the same distance. Joint bottom weight should help.

1.05A - Go Bob Go
A lot of these step up in trip including this former flat runner.
Ran in a higher class 4 last time out over 2 miles in which he
was closing when carried right 4th , kept on flat , never dangerous
so step up in trip May suit. Only a 4-Y-O and R.Mania returns to
the saddle. Has ew appeal.

Top weight Flexi Furlough has been placed in five of his ten races and in the frame in another two with three of those places in handicaps. Last race was a tad too long at 21.5f and he lost 2nd place on the line after hanging. Gillian Boanas stable in good form having saddled three winners and two places from six races. My biggest worry is the jockey but he has had four places from five rides for this trainer and his 7lb allowance very welcome.

Good luck all :hope:

Has shown little so far but the latest outing 3 weeks ago here was a decent
2/7 pulling clear, a well supported 6/1 that day and as a 6yo can improve on that now.
Trainer and jockey combo of Lucinda Russell/Derek Fox have a good record together especially at Ayr
Place chances at least.
