NORTHERN GIRL

Northern Girl ran quite encouragingly on handicap debut at Ayr last time and she’s open to much improvement off a pound lower mark. She as a strong jumping pedigree that as excelled in stayers events so today’s longer trip is sure to play to her strengths. She didn’t really show her worth when last running here, finishing seventh of eight in a mares novice hurdle on two miles. Beaten in the region of seventeen lengths that day, she was unable to as the race unfolded and she tamely dropped out of contention. That was on good to soft which might of been slightly on the quick side for her whilst her best efforts have come over today’s forecasted heavy ground conditions. She’s likely to benefit from today’s conditions of the race and hopefully she’s in contention at the business end of the contest.

16:05 Wetherby - Northern Girl

A reasonably poor standard in this race but nonetheless, I have gone with this horse chasing it's first win. Debuted over handicaps in January and probably ran one of her best races in that. Probably will be better having had a run under her belt in the handicaps and goes off 1lb lighter. Won't mind the soft ground today and could be an improved, something that seems somewhat unlikely on paper for a lot of the field.

ALONG CAME THEO
I'd like to pick something better priced, but I keep coming back to the favourite. It gets the distance and will act on the going. The horse has come close on its two opening runs of the season, finishing second in both of them. Last time out, it was only beaten by a short head over the CD in a Class 4 on soft going, same race level as today. That was off a mark of 100 and it's up to 105 today, but that's not surprising after a short head defeat. Prior to that, it ran on heavy going over 20f at Hexham and was beaten less than 2 lengths. Brian Hughes is aboard for the first time.

along came theo

Cannot see anything that likely to improve enough to make todays selection so will have to go with the apparent form horse Along Came Theo. The 8yr old gelding is currently being trained by Andrew Cook. Just had the three 3rds out of eight outings prior to the 2017 campaign but since then has run two promising 2nds at Hexam and Wetherby respectively, the first on heavy going over 2m 4f beaten under 2L and the last one over an extended 2m 3f on soft when going down just a short head, both times being ridden by a claimer. Today has Brian Hughes on board who is experienced to get a little more out of the selection to win.

NORTHERN GIRL

This looks a poor class 4 race so those that have previously failed in their attempts to step up to this level may have a decent opportunity to nab a prize!

However, I am going to take a chance on northern girl who is by far and away the least exposed runner. Ran a credible third in handicap debut and looked outpaced over too short a distance, this step up to 3m should suit.

COWSLIP

Now being a cattle farmer I have to go for Cowslip, sorry Gman :P , I missed yesterday's entry because of moving cows that are about to calve :sarcasm:

Cowslip is not the most consistent but always seems to do well when she has an apprentice she likes in the saddle and she has a good affinity with Aaron McGlinchey who himself is a promising young jockey with a win and three places from nine rides with the win aboard this horse and his allowance of 10lbs is very welcome. Has raced over further and placed but going is not her favourite. Has raced at this level and placed.

Good luck all :win:

ALONG CAME THEO

In decent form finishing second on last couple of starts, has course form having ran well at track in the past, latest efforts came under similar forecast conditions (soft/heavy), top jock gets the leg up.
