Newbury 2.25

VIEUX LILLE

Vieux Lille is taking a drop in weight today and absolutely loves the heavy going with two wins and a 6th in a Group 2 race on it. He has only been out of the money 3 times in his 15 race career and may have needed his opening run in October. Jockeys 4th ride with a win and a 3rd to his name.

Lingfield 2.55

OURMULLION

Ourmullion likes it here at Lingfield with a win and a 2nd from 2 starts. Has been in good form on the AW having been in the money in all but two of his 10 races and of those three are wins including a win with today's jockey Josephine Gordon aboard at 20/1.

Taunton 3.45

DELFACE

Delface is taking a big drop in weights today and also a drop in class. Comes from the shrewd David Pipe yard. Has tracked the leaders in his handicap races but runs out of steam at the end so with the drop in weight and jockey's allowance should make a difference.

Good luck all :hope:

12.20 Uttoxeter: BOUTAN

Has won 4 of his 15 starts on the flat, but remains a maiden over hurdles after 10 attempts, albeit has finished runner up twice.

She returned to form over hurdles when finishing runner up over this course and distance last time out on 22 December off a rating of 87.

She races off 88 today, but that is 22 lbs below her initial hurdle rating and only 23 lbs higher than her current flat mark, so she could be well treated now that she has a good performance under her belt.

She is set to carry 11.00 in this race, but talented conditional jockey, Mikey Hamill can claim 5 lbs off her back, which may be enough for her to gain her first win over hurdles.

1.45 Lingfield: THIRD TIME LUCKY

Has won 6 of his 26 career starts, but has only 1 victory from his last 15 races.

His record on the all weather is not great with just a single win from 9 attempts, with that victory coming at Wolverhampton.

However, he has run well at this track, including when finishing third (beaten 1 1/2 lengths) over this distance in a similar class 2 handicap at the beginning of March off a rating of 101.

He races off a rating of 98 in this race, which should mean that he will be competitive if running to his March form, which is a distinct possibility from a good draw in stall 2, especially if allowed to race prominently.

Need a big finish so:

12:20 at Uttoxeter - Norse Castle. Goes here off a lowly weight which could be handy in heavy ground. Not really done much timber or on the flat previously but last run at Leicester seen a bit of promise and they reach for the cheekpieces now so maybe the horse is just starting to get the idea. James Best rides and he's had a couple of winners recently.

1:45 at Lingfield - Alfred Hutchinson.
Veteran who goes well at this track and is finally getting some relief from the handicapper. Now on a mark of 90 and was winning off 10lb higher at the start of 2017 so he can work from it. Not brilliantly drawn but not so awful it'll totally ruin his chance. The O'Meara yard is going well and Fran Berry on board is hitting near 20% the last two weeks.

12.20U - Dragon Khan
Distance winner who ran on 3rd November which was his first run since 28th May so will strip fitter today. His rating on 28th May was 90
then on 3rd Nov. it was 86 which drops to 82 today. On his last run he was held up and never really got into it on good going so todays
underfoot conditions may make a difference. If you go back far enough in his form he had a couple of wins on heavy ground in Ireland
last year.

1.45L - Alfred Hutchinson
One of a few CD winners in the field. Switches back up to a mile after last three runs have been over 7f where he has been finishing well.
CD siccess here in January was off a rating of 100 under 9st 3lb in a class 2. Same class today but rating down to 90 and weight 8st 9lb.
New jockey on board today in Fran Berry which could make a difference.

12.20 Uttoxeter

Aza Run

Secured a return to the winners circle in latest start to secure second career win. Both wins have been at or around distance. Acts ok in heavy ground and has won in heavy ground conditions. A potential contender here today.

1.45 Lingfield

Cliffs of Carpi

Lightly raced three year old. Two wins from four starts, two runner up finishes in other two starts. All four races have been over 7f. Should handle the new distance and finishes strongly in latest start to finish 2nd. Not the beat of draws but a contender anyway.

With BOUTAN a non runner in the 12.20 at Uttoxeter, my selection will be:

DRAGON KHAN

Only has a solitary win from 18 attempts over hurdles, but has at least recorded 4 further top 3 finishes.

Finished 7th (beaten 11 lengths) over this course and distance on seasonal debut at the beginning of November off a rating of 86, but should improve on that effort with that run under his belt.

Best recent form was when finishing 3rd, albeit beaten 18 lengths over course and distance back in April off a rating of 92.

This is a weak race, so he may be able to capitalise on his reduced rating of 82, which is fully 27 lbs lower than his highest mark over hurdles.

UTTOXETER 12.20 RICHARDOFDOCCOMBE

Although he is getting long in the tooth this Miss G G Haywood trained gelding ran his best race for a while when third behind the R J Hodges trained Daytime Ahead over two miles four furlongs on soft ground at Wincanton 38 days ago so dropping down in trip with Kieron Edgar taking 3 pounds off he could go well at a decent price

LINGFIELD 1.45 THIRD TIME LUCKY

This R A Fahey trained gelding has won six times from seven furlongs to one mile one furlong but found plenty of trouble in running in his latest start when finishing 4 lengths behind the S C Williams trained Pactolus over one mile one furlong at Wolverhampton 32 days ago so with T Hamilton back onboard from the good draw in stall 2 he could surprise given luck in running
