2.40H - Lucarno Dancer
Ran in a class 4 last time out over 2m 3f 61yds where he was keen held up , ridden 2 out but didn't trouble leaders to
finish 7th of 11 beaten 17 lengths. The run before that was over 2m 2f 25yds where he made headway 3 out and kept
on one pace. Class 5 today and a couple of furlongs less will suit off his low weight with usual 3lb claimer on board.

Irish plodder with sporadic decent runs (for the level) buried in a mass of mediocrity. Last time out lapped over fences but penultimate start over sticks beaten just a couple of lengths off 86 (Sli). Not looking good today off 96 but has placed off higher in the past and trainer/jockey have knocked in 2 winners from 3 runners at the track this year.

Hard to make a case for anything in this race but at least this D McCain Jnr trained has won a race over this course and distance on soft ground in March last year so having had the benefit of a recent run over two miles three furlongs at Carlisle 15 days ago coming back from a break she should strip fitter today with Miss A McCain taking a valuable 7 pounds off

2.40 Hexham

Trainer Donald McCain ... ..... .... .... .... ......Jockey Miss A McCain (7lbs)

A Donald McCain trained 6 year old mare who has has 6 races over the hurdles winning once and finished 3rd once. Her win came here at Hexham in March this year, in a class 4 mares novice hurdle over 2 miles on soft going , where she made all winning by 24 lengths. She finished 5th of 11 runners last time out after a 5 month break at Carlisle in a class 4 handicap hurdle over 2m 3 1/2f ridden by today's jockey Miss A McCain claiming 7 lbs where she raced up with the pace, weakening on the run in beaten 8 3/4 lengths. She in a class 5 handicap over 2 miles on soft going, this mare won fairly well last time out under today's jockey, she is dropping back to her winning distance on similar going , her only win came over this c/d has a e/w shout in this race today.

She is a C & D winner. All her wins have been on this course. Her last win, in October, was in a higher class race, on this course. She had today's jockey on board and he still claims 5lb, which must assist with the rise in weight. The soft ground will be to her liking. A very experienced horse, who hurdles well and can do enough to win this.

Uno valoroso

Walford has a 19% strike rate at hexham. The pick is a course and distance winner. Has won first time out before over hurdles. Reverts back to a much lower mark than his chasing mark. Likes soft ground.

soft ground at Hexham, a course that always takes some getting with a big uphill pull not far from the final bend and finish often seeing horses with suspect stamina calling time.

I'm taking a chance on a real outsider here

ROCKLIFFE runs for tricky-Mickey Hammond was running in juvenile hurdles last season and has been campaigned on the flat over the summer.

He made his hurdling bow in handicap company last month at Kelso in a higher grade of race and beat only one home. Dropped in grade and 5 pounds lower he looks like the sort who might come on for that run and although 9th of 10 he was only 16 lengths off the winner, an experienced 6 year old out of brian Ellison's stable

As well as a drop in the weights, Hammond has a 5 pound claimer aboard for today's outing so 10 pounds better off for a 16 length defeat in a higher class of race suggests to me that 33s or more (currently trading) is a generous looking price.

Sky Full of Stars
The James Ewart yard is in good form with two winners from their last eight runners. As one of the top trainers at the track with a twenty one per cent strike rate their entry is of some interest. The horse has won a couple of times at the distance and on similar going. Has been off the track for six months so may need the race but in a race without any stars it could be one for the place money

Course and distance winner
Good trainer
Good jockey claims seven pounds and this has swayed my decision in her favour
Supported in the betting market
Has a better chance than many in this race
A race where all of the field have questions and a distinct lack of recent form
Hopeful for some points :)

Hexham 14:40

Ange Des Malberaux

James Ewart's charge Ange Des Malberaux has made some decent efforts at this level and this race has a number of runners who don't have any sort of recent form. Ange Des Malberaux will have no issue dropping back down in distance and winning this one after returning from a small break. On his latest outing in a hurdle race at Sedgefield in August he ran third of twelve behind Irish Hawke who had him beaten by 2 lengths. He has been successful in two hurdle races at 2 miles 1 furlong and 2 miles 4 furlongs on good and soft ground. Claimer Steven Fox (5) has the ride.

Uno Valoroso has good form over fences but was washed out at the end of last season. Returns to hurdles today after his summer break and has been known to win after a break. Jamie Hamilton back in the saddle and has a good affinity having been in the frame in all of his completed races. Distance no object and has wins on soft going.

Good luck all :win:

trained by Julia Brooke with Henry Brooke in the saddle, last race was over coarse and distance of 15.5 furlongs , when pulled up on heavy ground, runs over 16 furlongs in todays contest, has some form, on soft ground, so ground should suit, has ew appeal in todays race, could go close, with clear run.
