Bookies that have limited you?

Postby jaydubs » Tue Oct 24, 2017 8:43 pm

Just reading on another thread with people mentioning Ladbrokes as one of the worst for limiting you ..i thought we could run a poll and see which ones come out worst .

You should be able to choose multiple choices

For me Ladbrokes were rubbish.. nothing major won off them... but still can only get about 12p on a bet...
I won 4 figures over a couple of months from Betway and then they took away all promotions and then limited me...
Ended up closing both.. along with spoilsports and BV

all of them will if you are consistently taking the best prices/bonus offers, whether your selections are winning or not.

As a general rule of thumb Boylesports and Stan James are renowned to be the quickest to gub you, with bet365 the best of a poor bunch.

I don't post here often but saw this thread and wanted to leave my thoughts.

This year Paddy Power took all promotions away from me including BOG. A few months later Betfair Sportsbook did the same to me in addition to stake restrictions. You didn't list this firm in the poll for some reason, btw.

Anyway's I felt pretty bummed out about this. A few of you guys on here quite possibly are very good at making profit. I largely stick to horse bettong and sometimes greyhound betting too. I certainly never won big money off these firms and my stakes are generally not in line of a professional punter.

What upset me the most is I like to spread bets around and take the best odds where I can and both bookies were typically very good with what they offered. I'm now two bookies down and yeah i've just moved on now, but I do feel i'm lacking in alternatives now. I haven't replaced these gubbed firms with new ones yet as I didn't really like the options of what's left. I already have all high street bookie accounts.

I just think it's disgusting how this can happen to someone like me and you can't even challenge the decision with them.

Its a tough world out there Destroyer. Trying to get the best price is hard when you are restricted and limited, the system is definitely staked in favour of the bookie but there are a couple of ways to work around this as a punter. What works for me is using the exchange but to do this I have had to follow tipsters that don't tip at the top of the market between 5pm and 6pm the night before or tip after 10am the morning of racing.

This is due to a mixture of prices on tips tipped between 5pm and 6pm the night before generally being unachievable on the exchange (tipsters tipping at the top of the market and the exchange never gets there after people pile on) and work commitments in the morning meaning I cannot bet any tips after 10am.

For me you have to find a tipster(s) who aren't ahead because they claim top top prices as winners. Minus 0.5pt from each winning tip and see if they are still in profit or check if they are in profit at BFSP. If you can find tipsters who are in profit at BFSP (after commission) and their advised prices are higher than BFSP then you may have found a tipster who you can bet on the exchange and make profit from.

When betting on the exchange I set the price I want to achieve on a selection, the advised price plus 5% to cover commission. Once set I leave this until the morning. Any bets not triggered I manually trigger at what ever the price is in the morning. I am fortunate that very rarely do bets not trigger and I take pries lower than the advised. Sometimes the bet triggers at higher than the advise plus commission price I set (Brucey Bonus!). I have found that this small increase adds up long term and off sets any winners that I did not achieve my advised price on and any selections which drift and win. The exchange doesn't offer BOG which means my returns are lower than the top P/L shown for the tipsters I follow but not significantly and I make some healthy profit for my efforts.

Note: UK racing markets on the exchange form much more quickly than Irish racing markets, which forms almost as we sleep being buoyant generally only on the day of the meeting.

I hope the above makes sense and gives an insight into something which you may or may not have thought of before. Lots of tipsters move the market and have a great P/L but sadly ''the game'' doesn't allow us to achieve these returns. So we need to adjust our sails and achieve returns by alternative methods.

If you have any questions about the above strategy let me know.

Hi Avocado.

Sorry for the late reply but just wanted to say your post was very interesting although admittedly, I have limited knowledge of the Exchanges.

Listen I know people heap praise on it no end but I do prefer keeping it simple by sticking to the sportsbooks. For now, I can just get by with the firms I have for a little bit of value.

As long as PP/BFSB remain the only two firms to gub me them I should be ok but there is no telling is there at the end of the day. I do believe Betfair must have caught on that PP had restricted me 3 months earlier and that is why I am now where I stand with both firms.

I know this has nothing to do with your post but these bookies just really frustrate me and I just wish I could put in a complaint to both firms that wouldn't fall on deaf ears. I don't know what I did wrong and they will never tell me what it was either. Cowards the lot of them.

I thought we would get a couple of bookies showing as really bad here but it seems to be all of them that are as bad as each other...

To be fair to some bookies (never thought I would say that) not all of them have limited me to next to nothing. Sporting B have restricted me on two sports but not on others which I use just as often with similar P/L results. Hills have limited stakes to win a maximum of £50 on most bets which is more than enough for me so this has less of an impact than say PP or Corals where pennies are the order of the day. Another firm are interesting insofar as although they have a low stake limit for me, if the price changes I can put another bet on albeit for a restricted stake and so on every time the price changes. I haven't mentioned them in case they are unaware they do this.

Firstly, all my accounts are limited......all my "Friends" accounts aren't!

I used to have 1 account, where on the Ante Post horses, they'd limit me to say £5 on a horse a 5's, however I could have the same horse at 5's in a double with something else to say £25....so i'd pick an inplay match where a team was 3-0 up, with 10 mins left, and trading at 1/500, the bet was then excepted!
