RIP racehorses we've lost

Postby Shrews » Fri Mar 17, 2017 9:37 pm

I was going to put this on the Cheltenham thread just to say thanks to the owners, trainers and jockeys who've lost superb animals this week. But, a horse running anywhere for our enjoyment deserves equal respect of course. So here they are, the horse's this week who have lost their lives. RIP you beautiful animals.

16th March Cheltenham - Hadrians Approach - Fell - Broke foreleg cannon bone - Destroyed
16th March Cheltenham - Toe The Line - Fell on bend in running - Broke leg - Destroyed
15th March Cheltenham - Consul De Thaix - Fell - Broke neck - Dead
12th March Market Rasen - Ballynorth Benny - Pulled-up - Fatally injured
11th March Sandown - Disputed - Pulled-up - Injured foreleg - Destroyed
11th March Hereford - Sirabad - Fell - Broke neck - Dead
10th March Ayr - Circus Star - Collapsed during race - Dead

If you have any memories of them, seen them run, won you cash etc, then please write something about them below.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for Hadrian' Approach (sired by High Chaparral who was a fav of mine on the flat) who I first backed when 3rd in the RSA a few years and and then he gave me a great win at sandown a year or so later in the end of season Gold Cup.

It's always sad to lose any horse and as much excitement and entertainment as we have had over this past week this is the tough side to it. Nicky Henderson for example has enjoyed great success but you know it's hurt to see a quality veteran like Hadrian's Approach, or an up and coming potential star like Consul De Thaix, who could have been a real quality horse, die trying to provide the entertainment we all love. May they rest in peace and my thoughts with connections of all who lost horses.

Current Event died on the final day too ...........not sure what happened as he finished the race (Foxhunters), have heard he collapsed in the stables afterwards but not confirmed.
I don't think i've ever seen so many horses overheating at a Festival and it wasn't overly warm - most horrible sight for me was Label des Obeaux coming back into the unsaddling area in distress, i've never seen so many people grabbing buckets of water, also about 6-8 of them pushing against him and making him keep moving so that he didnt go down.

Crimson Ark (IRE) - 18 Mar, 2017 - Kempton Park NH - Fell - Broke Neck - Dead

RIP, I can't say I've backed any of them before but I'm sure many have. Both were decent types from a form aspect and sure to have been popular.

Reve De Sivola died at Kelso yesterday, after collapsing when pulled up sharply in the home straight. Internal bleed. Possibly went to the well too many times in attritional staying races but he was a favourite amongst the National Hunt fraternity.

Condolences to Nick Williams, Paul Duffy and the staff at George Nympton

I feared the worst when the ground turned to good for the National, but no casualities in the race or even the entire three day meeting was excellent news.

Two did lose their lives this week

Comeonginger (IRE) 05 Apr, 2017 Wincanton Fell - Broke Neck - Dead-
Here All Along (IRE) 03 Apr, 2017 Ludlow Broke Foreleg - Destroyed-

RIP

Just read on the racing post website that last year's Ebor winner, Heartbreak City, was fatally injured during a racecourse gallop at the Curragh on Saturday.
