I find Escaria Ten an absolutely unfathomable entry. He collapsed after the race last year and clearly doesn’t get home. Why would you even consider paying the fees to enter him?

Does anyone disagree about Escaria Ten?

My worry is that this year, the lack of a reserve system could be played by Elliott. Big time. Are we facing 1996 or 1999 numbers?

Hi everyone. As usual having trouble logging in so have done the two week thing again! Well, yet another entries day when I don't have the faintest idea who to back. I have got an old ante post on Iwilldoit but, apart from that I'm flumoxed. Especially as I get the Irish horses all mixed up. Maybe it will make more sense on weights day. I wonder if not having substitutes is their way of reducing the size of the field? Do people still have to pay the entry fee if they don't get a run?

I see Minella Crooner is out to qualify for the race today. Things would have to go badly wrong for that not to happen but I would smile at an unseat!

I done a quick study of the runners, first of all I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of runners at this stage but I think they all should be considered likely runners even though only 40 can line up. Gordon Elliot has 21 of them runners so what price a Gordon Elliot 1-2-3? Some will be pacemakers in my opinion.
My early fancy is IWILLDOIT needed to qualify by having six chase runs by this Saturday, I see that he's in the Betfair DENMAN CHASE at Newbury.

Plus this quote from his trainer when they won the 2023 Warwick Chase (A race won by One For Arthur on route to his victory at Aintree)

14Jan23 Warwick (29.5Hy, RPR 160)

We didn't get Iwilldoit in till a bit later unfortunately and he missed the Welsh National. I'm just delighted for everyone. He doesn't need these conditions, but the speed he was going at the start was the same speed that he was going at the finish. He's very one-paced and it's nice that he's given us a few options going forward ? but the softer the better. I don't know about Aintree, he needs another run over fences as he's still not qualified to run in the Grand National. He needs six runs over fences and he's only had five starts, so we'd need to run him again before the weights come out. It's been a whirlwind season so far so we'll enjoy this today. We could look at something like the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris - Sam Thomas, trainer.

Means that in my opinion they're going for it. So splashed a little on him.

Based on adjusted RPR required for a GN winner in GN season and previous season I have the following so far that qualify (looking at those at 40/1 or less) - not yet a full list as i need to recheck the entries (and CMP speed and stamina figures) list and some on a higher price (note have have set a lower standard for 7 years olds after Noble Yeats win so we don't get caught out by a 7 year old again). In no order yet and not a final list till I have rechecked the new entries list this week

Darasso (FR) 10 Mr John P. McManus Joseph Patrick O'Brien Ireland – 25/1

Delta Work (FR) 10 Gigginstown House Stud Gordon Elliott Ireland – 20/1

Galvin (IRE) 9 Mr R. A. Bartlett Gordon Elliott Ireland – 33/1

Happygolucky (IRE) 9 Lady Dulverton Kim Bailey – 33/1

Hewick (IRE) 8 Mr T. J. Mcdonald John Joseph Hanlon Ireland – 16/1

Noble Yeats (IRE) 8 Mr Robert Waley-Cohen Emmet Mullins Ireland – 10/1

Remastered 10 Brocade Racing David Pipe – 25/1

I will tidy this list up with an update in the next week.

We could do with those CMP speed and stamina figures now

Could be looking at the smallest line up of all time.

The Big Dog (IRE) 10 Damien J. Kelly/Colin Kelly Peter Fahey Ireland – 25/1 Worth noting, raced in a Grade One last week but fell, he was going well enough at the time, through stayer. Racing in the Irish Gold Cup was a massive climb in class, possibly used to raise his chances of lining up here, someone else can assist the weight system for this horse to run.

I’m not convinced about the stallion as I was dead set against Snow Leopardess last year but the presence of Pistlolet Bleu peaks my interest.

There are some interesting 100/1 shots at the moment, three in particular. Diol Ker is one such horse. He probably won’t stay but I can’t be certain because of PB.

Frontal Assault another 100/1 shot. Irish National runner up.

Hill Sixteen if it came up bottomless - unlikely I know but he will stay six miles.

For the price of a few coffees they would not be a bad three to have up your sleeve as well as your main fancies. It’s all about value at the end of the day innit?

Hi Seven, yes I was surprised to see Frontal Assault was 100/1, would have him ahead of a few of Gigginstown's.

I love looking at all the CMP'S, thanks Grittar for posting, tho I'm never too sure how conclusive they are. When you look at a few you think you know something about, you think the CMP bears out your opinion. For example

Escaria Ten, well we know he doesn't stay

DP = 1-0-4-3-0 (8) DI = 0.60 CD = -0.13
