Midnight Ginger

Andrew J Martin's inmate Midnight Ginger has work to do after she returns from a break. She was last seen in May running second of four in a hurdle race at Ffos Las beaten 6 lengths by Mr Tambourine Man. She runs off same mark today with James Martin again in the saddle. Won three hurdle races and a NH flat race from 1 mile 5 furlongs to 2 miles 3 furlongs on ground varying from good to soft.

FILEY BAY

From Emmet Mullins yard, Filey Bay won a Class 3 last time out over 17 furlongs at Doncaster. It was the horse's first attempt at handicapping. It carries a 7 pound penalty for that victory but it won the race by 6 lengths

Filey Bay

The 6yo returned from a break of over 400 days to win easily at Doncaster by 6lengths over 2m on good ground in his first run for new trainer. P Mullins has been booked for todays ride which is a bonus and a drop in trip should enable the jockey to defy the 7lb penalty in steering the gelding to a second successive win.

Congratulations to igorukr for some fantastic outsider finds to win last month's competition.

Wincanton 2.55
FILEY BAY
Not a horse I would normally choose but the Emmet Mullins factor is difficult to ignore. He comes here for the ground which some of our trainers don't like and the prize money which some of our trainers don't like. The winner's purse for this Class 3 race is much more than Filey Bay won for a similar Class 3 hurdle on Saturday.
Interesting that Alan King has pulled out his course and distance winner.
That performance last week was a massive improvement and was his stable debut and it appears his trainer has worked the oracle again because there was a long absence to overcome.
The weight of 12-1 is a worry (carried 10-10 on Saturday) but today's race is a very short one by handicap hurdle standards at 50 yards over 15 furlongs and that could be to Filey Bay's advantage as he won easily last week.
Yet to win going right-handed but Filey Bay is half brother to the useful winning jumper Some Detail who has won two of his three races going that way round.
Leading amateur Mr P W Mullins makes the long journey to ride (wasn't on board last time) and with racing in Ireland to day and Willie Mullins having a few runners this looks a positive sign.

Overpriced Mixer

I mean the fav could win half the track but at those odds it can....
This one is from a stable that does well at this time of year and wasn't beaten far in a class 2 off 122 before getting injured, made a promising comeback when understandably getting tired after 500+ days off and had an excuse the next day when the ground turned soft. Back on faster ground and with those two runs under his belt can get in the money at a nice price.

Captain Tom Cat

Dr Richard Newland's seven year old inmate Captain Tom Cat has a little a bit to prove after his latest outing when he was pulled up five out at Cheltenham in a chase won by Amarillo Sky last month. Winner of three hurdle races and four chases and today hopes to find good ground, he is wearing cheekpieces for the first time. Charlie Hammond has the ride.

Well done November winners and thanks as always Jan :win:

2.35 Exeter - Galop De Classe

A winner twice over 2 miles including on heavy ground. He has finished in the first three 8 times from 12 starts over ‘chases and was a close 2nd of 6 over 2 miles at Aintree in November on his last appearance. Charlie Deutsch is his regular jockey and rides today, and the Venetia Williams Stable is in good form.

2.35E - Galop De Chasse
Ran a good 2nd of 6 27 days ago on 5th November keeping on at the finish
of 1m 7f 176yds. Will strip fitter for it as it was first run since 8th March which
was also a staying on 2nd of 6 over 1m 7f 119yds. Interesting today stepped up
in trip with the same jockey on board. Rating stays at 124 but looks nicely weighted
with 11st 3lb.
