Who will light the flame?

Postby fairfranco » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:12 am

Well the odds on the Queen doing it have been slashed by Skybet. I don't really see her turning out in that all white torch carrying get up myself.

The Queen - 11/8 (skybet)
Roger Bannister - 6/4 (Paddy Power)
Steve Redgrave - 6/4 (both)
Any Royal family member - 11/4 (Paddy Power) (the obvious choice if you think it'll be the queen!
David Beckham - 11/2 (Paddy Power)

Plenty of others in the mix but i've had a small bet on Beckham. I think he'll probably hold the torch in the stadium at some point, weather he'll be given the final duty I don't know.

Redgrave would be an excellent call to do it as he is a true British Olympic legend.

Bannister at 83 is getting on some now but his achievement will always be remembered.

Would they give it to a Royal, anyone other than the Queen would be a bad call in my view.

Also from Ladbrokes

The Reigning Monarch - 4/1

(that'd be the Queen if your unsure!)

very generous odds compared to the other 2

I think it would be ridiculous if it was Prince William or Kate, it would be them trying to badger to Celebrity.

If it's going to be a royal it should only be the Queen.

do you mean Paul McCartnery? Don't even see odds for him. I certainly wouldn't put my money on him though!

As far as i know the final torch bearer as always been a sports person.
I think roger bannister is the perfect choice.
Don't forget steve redgrave as well.

laying the reigning monarch would be a good choice.

I'm fancying something different, maybe a hanging flame from a helicopter or something flashy like that.

someone told me it is gonna be Gordon Thompson, I never heard of him but judging by Danny Boyles response it seems to me like it might be someone unlikely :?

Steve Redgrave backers might be slightly nervous...he doesn't look like a man currently ready to do anything but sit in a studio next to Michael Johnson and talk to Gary Lineker and Sue Barker.
