Gold Medal Betting

Postby Micko70 » Mon Jul 23, 2012 10:39 pm

Although we (GB) are expected to have our best for along time regards to Gold Medals i cannot Believe that Ladbrokes have Russia at 8/11 to be the best European nation regarding Gold Medals won.

In 2008 Russia won 23, Britain won 19 and Germany won 16
In 2004 Russia won 28 & Germany finished 2nd on 13
In 2000 Russia won 32 & Germany finished 2nd on 13.

GB are expected to win between 22 & 24 Gold Medals, although we might do better than in 2008, 24 Gold Medals is a lot to ask for and Russia @ 8/11 is a fantastic price

A double with the USA @ 8/13 to win most medals is a decent bet @ just over 7/4

Although China won more Gold Medals in 2008, they were expected with hosting the games, USA have beaten easily in other years

Edit. According to this story they are confident heading in to the games:- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympi ... named.html

I read somewhere earlier in the month that they expect a minimum of 25 Gold Medals, even if they get 1 or 2 below that i can see them beating us, despite us having "Home" Advantage.

We have always been a nation/group of nations that struggle and never do as well as expected.

With the added pressure of being at home i think some of the Medal hopes will struggle with the expectation although i can see us winning at least 20 Golds, but i don't think this will be enough

GB Gold Medals

Postby thedavid » Tue Jul 24, 2012 7:59 am

GB are expected to win 23 Gold Medals. There is a huge presure on GB sportsman and it will be difficult for most of them to win Gold.

If you look at the record of previous host nations then all since South Korea in 1988 have got more golds than they did at the previous Olympics. I fully expect GB to do the same, granted one or two might crack under the pressure, but it should be something to thrive on and I would imagine you will get some more surprise medals becuase of it.

:) I think we GB will get around 15 to 22 gold medals.

1: 15 Gold medals will be quite good.
2: 22 Gold Medals that be a great achievement. :D

Have to work out later, where the medals will come from.
Certainly Tennis could be fav, as Andy Murray will go close again :hope:
Cycling and Rowing again..
Athlectis yes, we should get some medals there..

 Football no chance, can cross that one off, as our team
is very new, while teams Like Brazil & Spain been playing it for years.

F1: Think thats in the olympics this year :?
Could go close there to, now Button coming in form..

So get passed 15 Gold medals will be achievement, as we are small Country
to USA & Australia etc..
22 Gold medals will be great success :)
So be looking forward to the games next 2 weeks.. :)

When the olympics be over, our footie season will start again.
Certainly gone quick this Summer. :)

Think you're getting confused because there were rumors of them wanting to use the stadium as part of a potential London grand prix after the Olympics. No F1 in the actual Olympics though.

Id like to see tom Daley win gold after the tough time he's had regarding his father dying, but after watching programme on the box the other night qiu bo looks the one to beat in the 10 m diving he's the Chinese version of tom Daley only a young lad at 19,but beat tom Daley on last 3 comps and broke a world record of 20 + 10s perfect dives in one comp
Even some of tom Daleys die hard fans didn't seem too confident about him beating Qiu bo.
Diving isn't a sport I follow but Qiu bo looks like he will take some beating in this ,looks like bookies are already on to this at 4/5 tho.

Being the host nation will mean Brits performance levels will rise and we'll win more medals than previous Olympics as a result, but Golds are hard to come by and we only ever have a handful of serious Gold medal contenders at any time. I think 23 Golds is too big a total for us (although wouldn't it be great to be cheering home gold after gold?), so yeah Micko, Russia to beat us would be a great bet at that price.
