Olympic Boxing

Share thoughts and selections in here and any info you may come across.

I''ll start with Carl Frochs thoughts on our Olympic hopefuls as he has been training with many of them. His own trainer is training the squad

New Boxing Champ From India

Postby Jainet » Sat Jul 21, 2012 9:41 am

Today i catch the news about 2012 Olympics where the inauguration has already started and the security system for it has been tightened enough. I like the boxing event where i think Vijender Singh from India could keep tight competition with their colleagues. Of-course at final the result and the best man will raise it for Gold ... Its really feeling thrilled to watch this event. :win:

Froch's article is very biased sorry, GB do have a very good team no doubt, but competitions are exceptionally competitive.

The three women have great medal chances in my opinion and looking at the men I think Tommy Stalker and Andrew Selby are the best chances of gold. Joshua is a superb super heavyweight as well and has had some awesome results in the last 12 months.

I remember watching the build up to the Froch v Bute fight on Sky and couldn't believe some of the sparring between Froch and Fred Evans. It looked very competitive and Froch even said how much Evans had pushed him.

Now when you think that only a week or so later Froch put up one of his best performances ever in beating Bute, then Evans must have done really well.

I can't believe anybody in the competition will have had any better preperation than that so I'm backing Evans at what looks a very big 16/1 to win Welterweight Gold.

I know very little about the opposition he will face, but at those odds I'll take my chances.

The guy he should face in the 2nd round stopped him at the Worlds, tough draw as well, will do well to get a bronze imo but good luck :win:

Aah now I know why he's 16/1!!

Let's hope he's improved since then and one thing's for sure if he wins that fight he'd be almost favourite.

Some good boxing tonight but some awful scoring and officiating. Joshua just got beaten by at least 6 points and gets given the victory

I know, I just watched that one. I thought the Cuban had it won by a few points. Surprised Joshua won the second round. :?

Don't think he won any round tbh, lost the second wide though. I'd like to see the Brits do well but not if it's because of decisions like last night. Wasn't the only one either, the Japanese have appealed so hope their boxer gets reinstated as he should of won by DQ or stoppage.

EDIT

Japanese boxer has been reinstated :win:

Ogogo has just got a nice present as well  back against the Brits at your peril!

What a joke. The joke of Boxing Decisions and scoring is carried in to the Olympics. An Incompetant referee actually allows Mammadov to continue when he should have been thrown out of the fight and then to add further insult he even gets the winning decision.

Makes you laugh when they stick to the rules in Cycling, but clearly the Boxing world make it up as they go along! Gotta feel for Karneyeu and at least the Crowd and the Commentry Team made their opinions very clear!

:x

Been a string of bad ones mate, a couple have been overturned and I reckon a protest will go in for this one too as the ref could/should of given another warning so if they give Karneyu another 2 points he'll be back. Looks even worse with the winner being from Azerbaijan considering the whole buying medals thing involving them.
