Rio Olympics 2016 - general discussion

Postby Jim Brown » Tue Aug 02, 2016 12:00 pm

It's almost here!

The Olympics is the pinnacle of all sport in the eyes of many. No doubt we'll see amazing performances, as we always do, and the Zika scare aside, let's hope Rio is as big a spectacle and success as London was 4 years ago!

We also see golf making a comeback in Rio - great to see!

This thread is for general discussion. Threads for individual sports/events can be opened :win:

I can't directly answer that, surfsup, as the mods aren't part of that area of admin. I do know that the feed OLBG gets to provide the events depends on a stable info feed from the bookies. That's why some lesser sports/events don't appear, because the bookies they take the info feed from aren't providing a full list, or sometimes no list. As we get near the time for the event it is likely it could appear though. :win:

Yes we are working on adding the Olympics events to the main sports we cover

Also we plan to be running a tipping comp for the Athletics too.

Seeing as there are many betting opportunities on most of the events offered by the bookmakers, is there a website where we can access form. I am interested mainly in the athletics, so what I would search for is
Track
Best recent time
Best season time
Fastest ever time
Field
Longest jump/ Longest throw etc

Thanks in advance for any help :win:

My views on both the Men's and Women's Athletics events are now available on my blog page.

Alternatively here is a link to both;

Men's http://www.olbg.com/blogs/post.php?id=411455

Women's http://www.olbg.com/blogs/post.php?id=411456

Best of luck if you decide to play

Cheers Lazarus76

Mazeymay, for form and personal bests the IAAF website and the Diamond League website are pretty good, you can also try Wikipedia (not always accurate though)

https://www.iaaf.org/competitions/olympic-games

http://www.diamondleague.com/home/

If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

Russia is quite good at these games! The scandal didn't influence the team greatly. What do you think?

Team GB did excellently, i think we prepared well and raised our game from London when home advantage was a big advantage. Funding was important to the success of the team.

As for the Olympics as a whole, it did seem a touch flat. The conditions that many of the population live in was always present in my mind in relation to the cost + the drug question when ever i saw an athlete performing above expectations.

The time difference for UK viewers also played a part in making the games for me less memorable.

The highlight for me was gymnast Louis Smith being dignified but upset in finishing 2nd + watching the GB hockey players being outclassed in the final by the Dutch and turning over only to discover they won the game the following morning.
