Grand National Stallions Mares & Pedigrees

Postby The Seven Pillars of Wisdom » Mon Apr 11, 2022 7:55 am

For future reference I will post on here details of stallion, dam and dam sire CMP’s or details of relatives etc. Whatever I think could be pertinent or mildly interesting really!

The thing that still stands out on the stallions is the Index figure. I guess it shouldn’t be a huge surprise as 4 of the winning stallions are by Sadlers Wells and Authorized was by a son of Sadlers Wells.

So early focus on 2023. Let’s start with Kitty’s Light.

NATHANIEL
DP = 5-0-24-12-1 (42) DI = 0.68 CD = -0.10
Conduit Mare Profile = 4-4-4-9-9 Speed = 8 Stamina = 18 Index = 0.52 Triads = 12-17-22

DARAIYNA
DP = 4-0-10-5-1 (20) DI = 0.82 CD = 0.05
Conduit Mare Profile = 6-5-3-12-5 Speed = 11 Stamina = 17 Index = 0.80 Triads = 14-20-20

My personal take on these figures would be that they are not entirely ideal. Nathaniel is of course by a son of Sadlers Wells so that’s a positive.

This afternoon’s focus is on Franco De Port.

Franco De Port’s figures are as follows and on the face of it they don’t look too bad. Coastal Path’s figures aren’t that dissimilar to those of Yeats. He looks like a stallion that could legitimately produce four milers.

COASTAL PATH
DP = 5-1-11-10-1 (28) DI = 0.70 CD = -0.04
Conduit Mare Profile = 4-6-3-10-8 Speed = 10 Stamina = 18 Index = 0.59 Triads = 13-19-21

RUTH
DP = 2-1-9-2-2 (16) DI = 0.88 CD = -0.06
Conduit Mare Profile = 3-3-5-11-5 Speed = 6 Stamina = 16 Index = 0.54 Triads = 11-19-21

The dam is perhaps a little high on stamina compared to those that have gone before but there’s nothing major to put you off from the stallion/dam perspective.

Coastal Path has yet to have a runner over four miles. Worth keeping an eye on though.

This evening it’s the turn of Corach Rambler.

There’s enough in Corach Rambler’s data to cause concern. Jeremy, on the face of it, looks like a stallion that dealt in speed over stamina. Corach Rambler looks as though he is trying his best to disprove this notion.

JEREMY
DP = 6-3-13-2-0 (24) DI = 1.82 CD = 0.54
Conduit Mare Profile = 3-9-2-11-5 Speed = 12 Stamina = 16 Index = 0.74 Triads = 14-22-18

HEART N HOPE
DP = 2-0-6-4-2 (14) DI = 0.56 CD = -0.29
Conduit Mare Profile = 5-6-4-4-8 Speed = 11 Stamina = 12 Index = 0.83 Triads = 15-14-16

For me, like Jeremy, the dam is not ideal based on the figures alone. Visually, he looked great at Cheltenham. The form wasn’t franked at Aintree though apart from the Grand National winner! At the moment, he is not one that interests me too much, but another decent Spring run may have me ducking for cover.

He may well stay 3m 5f but I’m not convinced about 4 miles.

This morning it is the turn of FAKIR D’ALENE. If he were to run well at Fairyhouse, his place in next year’s race would be more or less secured.

I’ve not yet been sold on Cokoriko but I’ve based that purely on one horse, Coko Beach. I’m not looking beyond the stallion and dam yet. I know Network is the dam’s sire and that could prove the difference.

There are elements to Cokoriko’s figures that are really not ideal namely Index, Triads and Speed.

COKORIKO
DP = 1-1-6-2-0 (10) DI = 1.00 CD = 0.10
Conduit Mare Profile = 7-4-2-8-6 Speed = 11 Stamina = 14 Index = 0.91 Triads = 13-14-16

SERBANNE
DP = 0-0-4-8-2 (14) DI = 0.17 CD = -0.86
Conduit Mare Profile = 2-3-8-8-5 Speed = 5 Stamina = 13 Index = 0.58 Triads = 13-19-21

The dam on the other hand looks ok. The one big anomaly for me is the CD figure being that far negative. There are mixed messages with this horse. The stallion is telling me he doesn’t want extremes, the dam is telling me he wants 5 miles!

He will be an interesting watch on Easter Monday if he turns up.

Time for FAROUK D’ALENE. Not sure about his wellbeing yet.

Before Yeats had his winner, I would have said that the Stamina figure was high, but Yeats has pushed that boundary out a little further to 18 now and all of a sudden this stallion looks good. The Index and Speed figures are perfect.

RACINGER
DP = 2-1-10-5-0 (18) DI = 0.80 CD = 0.00
Conduit Mare Profile = 6-3-1-13-5 Speed = 9 Stamina = 18 Index = 0.67 Triads = 10-17-19

MASCOTTE D’ALENE
DP = 0-0-3-1-2 (6) DI = 0.33 CD = -0.83
Conduit Mare Profile = 3-4-5-6-7 Speed = 7 Stamina = 13 Index = 0.60 Triads = 12-15-18

Another dam that on the face of it looks a decent fit. The CD figure is very low indicating she could be a source for extreme trips.

I like this one. If the ground did have some juice in it, then the dam’s stamina would undoubtedly come in to play. May not be quick enough for a good ground National.

Oh hello! This will be a clear resource for the team, thanks Seven!
Can I just add Flemensfirth DS of Noble Yeats rather than Sire has to be interesting line of thought, along with a few other sires that didn't quite make it over 4m ...maybe! There's been several Flemensfirths I or the team were very keen on, for me it was because of their personality and style of running and staying on! you could see it coming through in the way Noble ran and indeed held his head after the race, its within him and it comes from Alleged I believe recognising it in DPI back then.
With Yeats sired, we discussed the unknown in terms of staying re several runners or potential runners for this yrs race, he's got results, Longhouse ran too freely and had a little too much weight. So, end of this journey and result, I think this study will help point to novices and therefore those under 11st that can win the modern national at the very least. I don't see it not happening again myself. If winners, placers and multiple runs are overpunished and top of the weights withdrawn.
I think the likes of ASN and previous to that Anibale Fly being monster horses, also needs uncovering. Physically they look alike I believe there's gaps in both of their pedigrees online and well in ASNs case he really stated on despite the weight and despite doubts going into last yrs race he could stay.

There was a horse by Morozov that finished runner up to Dubai Devils in the Hexham four miler during Cheltenham week that had Flemensfirth as the DS. Alright, it was at a lower grade but should probably have taken more notice. That said the dam of that horse was far inferior to that of the winner based on the CMP figures so the right horse won on pedigree. I’m hoping we can unearth something before most.

VANILLIER

Not for me. This one would win without my money on it.
The stallion just doesn’t float my boat for a modern National. The DP looks ok but then it all starts to go wrong!

MARTALINE
DP = 3-2-19-18-0 (42) DI = 0.53 CD = -0.24
Conduit Mare Profile = 4-3-3-11-8 Speed = 7 Stamina = 19 Index = 0.47 Triads = 10-17-22

VIRGATA
DP = 4-4-6-2-0 (16) DI = 2.20 CD = 0.63
Conduit Mare Profile = 7-2-6-2-9 Speed = 9 Stamina = 11 Index = 0.85 Triads = 15-10-17

The dam doesn’t really do it either. The stamina figure seems low, the index high and the Triads are all over the shop. I think he’d be a surprise winner purely based on these figures.
