I look forward to New Years Eve when Systemsman will once more open the Eurovision thread.

I encourage all members to return early to discuss the new entries as they are announced, this is where the value lays. Remember Sweden were 15/1, Russia 40/1+, Italy 50/1 this year. 80% of songs can be ruled out easily enough and for the early and the brave get a value bet.

Once more congratulations to all who had Sweden and I'll chat yo y'all next year.

Yes, exactly. Sweden was even 16/1 on March 1. This was largely due to the fact that the market still assumed Mariette Hansson's or Fjällgren's entry was the most likely song to represent Sweden. Måns' Heroes hadn't performed yet at Melodifestivalen and the song wasn't on youtube or anywhere else.

Then after his first performance on February 28 the market started to react, but quite slowly. As I said, you could have still got 16/1 on Sweden winning the following day (The odds for MÃ¥ns winning Melodifestivalen was 3/1 right after his first performance so value can also be found in national selections before the big thing).

The Junior Eurovision is approaching and Ireland chose something out of the ordinary, an extraordinary voice, someone reminding of Charlotte Church in the 90s. The song is called "Star of the sea", but I think will be sung in Irish "Réalt Na Mara"? Watch the betting regarding Ireland, if having the opportunity. Again opera voices don't have too much success, but Italy did get into the top 3 in the regular Eurovision.

Looking like at least 41 nations competing in Stockholm. Possibility of Australia returning.

Looks like the final number for 2016 will be 42 with Australia starting in a semi.

Switzerland have announced their finalists:

Bella C — Another World
Vincent Gross — Half A Smile
Stanley Miller — Feel The Love
Stephanie — Perche mi guardi cosi?
Rykka — The Last Of Our Kind
Theo — Because Of You

I'm comfortable that Bern or Zurich 2017 is not on the cards.

Are you sure?
Rykka's song stands out by a mile.
I wouldn't rule it out. The message of the song suits Eurovision. I can't find who wrote it. The singer may ruin the performance, saw a live version on YT, she is kind of all over the place.... but early days.

Hi Meldettori, good to hear from you again my friend.

I agree that Rykka is the likely winner and accept that the song will probably be reworked and polished but in my opinion will go absolutely nowhere as I fail to see an all important USP with either song or artist.

Just my opinion mind!!!

Yes, early days. Cheers.

Next year will mark exactly 60 years since 1956, Switzerland, but it will be the 61st Song Contest.

Finland has some instrumental snippets from their preselection here

Not much to read into it, but it has some of the lyrics there.
