Eurovision 2009

Postby nors » Fri Mar 27, 2009 6:05 pm

Despite the best efforts of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jade it may not be there time according to the bookies who have let the odds drift.

Favourites are Norway and Scandinavia look like they may do well with Denmark and Sweden fancied.

4 mistaken views in one short sentence. Top work fantham :)

Nors - great EV09 site. I can see a lot of work has gone into it and I hope it gets some good traffic figures.

A great event as in recent years its been easy to get an edge. I haven't studied the event yet and the new voting rules could be significant. But my early thoughts are;

Russia the Mothership are a crazy price @ 50/1, should be much lower even if the song was "Im Henry the Eighth Iam" it will get votes.

Georgia are shown on some bookies lists but have been kicked out already so watch your bets. The organisers couldn't "Put Up" with their "Put In" lyrics.

Turkey normally do well but their song is boring and so similar to many others. I wouldnt even be tempted @13.00, Boylesports best price.

UK, with the Sir ALW factor is a puzzle. I suspect it will be a disaster but then the bookies already have that priced in.

Norway at 2.64 to lay on Betfair :? Now that has to be too low in such an event. The lowest pre-event favourite that I can remember. Also good news for the arbers as you can back them now with the bookies at 2.75 :)

Sadly the Dutch are going to bomb again. They are taking their 3 wise men (all famous talented singers in their home country) but the song is the worse that they have submitted for years. A geriatric Take That tribute, in the style of "Shine". If it makes the finals I will be amazed.

Watch your EW terms at the bookies. Some offer 1/3 the odds some offer 1/4, 4 places.

Be Lucky :-)

Over recent years i think the one almost certainty is that United Kingdom will not be winning. The voting is very political with people looking after neighbours and although i think they are changing the way the voting is done it will not have much effect.
And Europe do not like us much.

My advice Lay United Kingdom.
Could be easy money.

They are 38.00 to Lay so you'd need to risk quite a bit to win the price of a decent pair of socks :)

If it was fancied by anyone then the Irish bookies would have them a lot shorter than 125/1 Boylesports- 50/1 Paddy Power.

Ireland - 2009 Eurovision Song Contest: Uk V Ireland - Who Will Score the Most Points in the Final ?

Ireland at 7/4 Is good value with Boylesports, Just wonder if your bet will be returned if the irish don't make it to the finals. Probably both will do bad but the irish are liked more so should be good for few points in there

Norway to walk it!

Postby Systemsman » Sun Apr 12, 2009 1:10 pm

Last year I allowed my own poor judement of music to cloud my opinion on Russia to win. I did post the day before the finals warning that Russia were looking good but I didnt fancy them myself (I went for Sweden). The polls were 100% correct last year with Russia 1st and Ukraine 2nd exactly has happened in the final.

This year I am not going to make the same mistake. This is one of the best betting prospects in the whole year but neglected by many. This year we have one of the lowest price poll Fav for some time and rightly so. Norway will win in 2009 and walk it (No 1 in ALL polls and also my No 1!!).

My Advice for what its worth. Top countries in the betting.

1. Norway- great pacy folk tune which will go down all across Europe well with jury and phone vote. Will win 2nd Semi final and final. NO 1 in ALL polls availble by a mile. Only 6/4 FAV but a winner for sure.
My score 9.5 (from 10). WINNER by a distance.

2. Turkey. Nice catchy tune. Very disco. Top 3 in most polls. Top e/w bet at 10/1 3rd Fav. Should win fisrt semi final. Top 3 in most polls (2nd in some).
My score 9.00 (top 4)

3. Greece - climbing fast in the polls. 2nd Fav in betting. Not a song i like (but i was wrong about Russia last year remember). Average song with lots of hip movements!
My score 6.5 (top 12)

4. Azerbaijan - popular in polls (around 5th). Eean way material. Interesting Disco tuue with asian overtones - very interesting. Will do well (top 7).
My score 8.5 (top 6)

5. Estonia - very plesant song. A bit differet but no big winning punch. Will do well.
My sccore 8.5 (top 6)

6. Finland. Now this one is dangerous to all if the fans and jury like a punk tune (if?). Popular in polls and nearly 1million views on YouTube. Best value bet at the moment. I dont think it will appeal all across Europe therefore wont win. Good place material.
My score 8.5 (top 8) but a danger to all.

7. Serbia. Strange. No Euro appeal.
My score 5 (NOt top 6 for sure)

8. Spain. Good beat, good singer but lacks that "something" to win.
My score 8 (top 12)

9. Iceland. Solo ballard.Nice but thats all.
My score 7.25 (top 20)

10. Sweden. A strange song but interesting. Music for the world cup or Olypics but Eurovion I think not. neverthe less will pick up some support for being that bit diffreent.
My scre 7.5 (top 12)

11. France. Very French and wont appeal across all Europe. Neither bad or good.
My score 5 (top 30)

My Top 4.

1. Norway 9.5
2. Turkey 9.0
3. Finland 8.5
3. Azerbaijan 8.5
3. Estonia 8.5

So its Norway to win - a song that will appeal all across Europe. :NAP:
