£1000 CHELTENHAM 2018 TIPPING COMPETITION

Postby PompeyJim » Wed Feb 21, 2018 4:37 pm

The Cheltenham Festival 2018 countdown is gathering pace which means we are fast approaching the start of the most popular Horse Racing tipping competition on OLBG....

The £1000 Cheltenham Tipster Competition!!!

We are delighted to announce it is back for 2018, FREE to enter with a total prize fund of £1000.

Top prize is £500 for the winner! + £200 for second and £100 for the third, fourth and fifth placed tipsters.

Please take your time to understand the entry terms and ask any questions below if you aren't sure. Cheltenham starts on Tuesday 13th March and finishes on Friday 16th March.

Entry:

You do not have to enter this separately from the monthly horse racing competitions, if you are a member of OLBG then you just need to add tips (with comments) via the usual 'Make A Tip' menu (link below) on the daily races at Cheltenham and these will be eligible for the Cheltenham competition prize table.

https://www.olbg.com/members/maketip.php?id=2

There will be increased daily top ups during the festival. So you will get 100 virtual points added each day on top of the normal 100 daily top up - so enough to make 4 tips a day even if your betting bank has been cleaned out.

Prizes:

£500 to the Winner which will be the tipster finishing the competition with the highest level stakes profit (LSP) and having placed at least the minimum tip number requirement , £200 for the runner up and £100 for third, fourth and fifth place.

This is in addition to the usual prize money for the monthly horse racing tipster competitions which you can still win during March based on the criteria for the other Horse Racing tables.

As usual, prizes are doubled for Elite Tipsters and trebled for Super Elite Tipsters. If unsure of your current tipster status for Horse Racing you can check this via your 'My Performance' page stats.

https://www.olbg.com/members/myperformance.php

LSP:

This is Level Stakes Profit, One point will be placed on the horse for win tips, 1/2 a point (win and place terms) for Each Way tips at the odds taken (Best Odds Guaranteed and Rule 4 may apply on some tips). So it does not matter if you select a stake of 50 or 500 for these tips, if you place a win tip on a 5/1 winner you will then have a LSP of + 5 points. If for example you then have 3 losing tips, your level stakes profit will be down to + 2 points (5 minus 3). Tipsters must finish the competition with a positive level stakes profit to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

Day of Race Markets:

These should be available from late afternoon the day before racing (normally around 4-5pm each day), the races will be listed by race time as normal as we no longer have the Ante Post markets.

So although tips cannot be added for the Cheltenham Tipster Competition until late afternoon on Monday 12th March onwards, we would still like to know your top fancy/selection/banker etc... NOW !! ... For a chance of having your tip on display at Cheltenham racecourse (including the loos!) throughout the four days of the festival please add your 1 Hot Tip (and why you think it is a good bet) for the Festival on the 'Toilet Tips' forum thread below no later than Wednesday 7th March.

viewtopic.php?f=52&t=66859

Tips = 20 or more.

To qualify you must add at least 20 tips with comments that contain at least 20 words or longer with good quality reasoning justifying your tip for OLBG followers.

Tips without comments are excluded, also poor comments without reasoning or any that contain less than the minimum criteria will mean the tip will be deemed void and excluded for the competition.

We just need a few good reasons as to why you are choosing the selection. Also no copy and pasting of comments, you will need different comments for each tip and no copying form summaries from other websites or other members comments as these will be deleted from the competition.

What we want here is for tipsters to share their key insights about the horses they are tipping and why they think they are a good bet. Then OLBG followers wanting to look at a race can read through lots of facts and opinions about each horse before placing their bet.

If unsure as to tip comment requirements we have listed some useful pointers for comment content here -

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=61789

Comments will be checked during and after the competition has finished and if OLBG deem them not to be of good enough quality they will be deleted and the tip excluded from the tipping competition. Please strive for good spelling and punctuation, as this makes it easier for your followers to read on the OLBG App.

The 2017 OLBG Cheltenham Competition result was as follows -

1. marksutherland 47.3 (LSP)
2. schneedler25 45.0
3. cogsy63 42.0
4. elbeddo 41.2
5. reeder10 35.2

Can Mark defend his title ? .. Can you beat his LSP total from last year ? .. If you can you would have a great chance of scooping the top prize so come and have a go !!

The competition table will be published throughout the four days and can be viewed via the link below.

https://www.olbg.com/tables/events.php?id=6

The final confirmed table will then be published in the week commencing the 19th March and prizes will be allocated within 14 days.

Members tipping comments will be read this year by a bigger audience than ever before. We want to showcase the quality we have on OLBG, so please make your comments the best possible.

Please look around the OLBG Cheltenham Festival Betting forum and get involved in the discussion on each of the races, there is tonnes of quality info here already.

Thanks The Snail, absolutely a 40+ lsp is some going after trying to pinpoint a winner over the toughest four days on the racing calendar, and the best!

The competition literally went down to the wire in the Grand Annual last year and hopefully this year's will be no different.

We'll update this thread race by race when we get underway on the Tuesday 13th with the competition standings but as you mentioned hopefully many members will have some of their bankers and main picks already sorted, so to all members please feel free to join in the race by race discussions and add your early thoughts and fancies. The race by race threads can be found under this Cheltenham Festival Betting forum menu -

viewforum.php?f=52

Also on that note we really need your 'Toilet Tips' !!

Many members will remember a few years ago (we didn't do them last year) when OLBG tipsters gave Cheltenham racegoers winner after winner via the 'Toilet Tips' at the course, they were hugely popular.

We need members to add their main fancy for the Festival via the 'Toilet Tips' forum link below, due to printing deadlines we need them by Wednesday 7th March.

A selection of the tips received will be displayed with the OLBG tipster's name on posters around the racecourse throughout the four days of the festival.

Don't be shy....you know you want to !!

Best of luck to all at the festival.

Am on holiday for the week, so will have a bash, think it'll be more of an Irish walkover than usual this year.

Fair play to OLBG for putting up generous prize money, am sure many will emerge from slumbers to compete, that's unless the Beast from the East lingers for a month & called off, jeez, that doesn't bare thinking about. !!!

After months of discussion the Festival is very nearly here!

Tomorrow's races should now be available to tip on so hopefully we will see as many members as possible adding their tips and tip comments:

Is there any way of allowing us to tip on more than one day of the festival at the time? What with the festival madness, I always forget one of the days - happens every year!

Hi Danny,

Know what you mean it does get a bit hectic once we get underway but it is one day at a time for tipping on the festival. We'll have the next days cards available on the tipping menu late afternoon prior to the day's racing.

All the best at Cheltenham, good luck.

Hi,

If you click on the link below this will take you to the 'Make a tip' menu -

https://www.olbg.com/members/maketip.php?id=2

Select your race and selection, select your 'NAP' for your strongest tip and then add your comment of at least 20 words explaining for users why you think your tip is a good bet.

Then select your stake minimum of 50 and a maximum of 500 virtual points and whether you want to tip 'win' or 'Each Way'.

Confirm your tip, a confirmation pop up will show so you can check everything is correct before confirming your tip.

Good luck.

Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately it appears I have been disallowed from commenting due to laziness in the past. I hope this can be forgiven and I can be given another opportunity to join the tipster competition. I have just used the contact button at the foot of the forum, as someone was instructed in a similar thread. Is there any chance to have this ban removed so I can add comments to my tips, please? I already have spent time writing tips for all 28 races, making sure they were all at least 30 words and well-thought out. :(
