With Thistlecrack not going well and Native River being set out for the GC. Could Thistlecrack go back over hurdles and would it be good enough.

Hi All

I'm very keen on Wholestone for this, as stated in my first Cheltenham blog of the year.
I've backed him at 16's after he won well on New Year's Day and is now 3/4 on the New Course.
He's a C&D winner and ran well in last year's Albert Bartlett to be 3rd. We haven't seen the winner Penhill yet & Monalee has gone chasing. He looks one of the better staying novice hurdlers to me.
Check out his form last January where he had William Henry & subsequent Grade 1 winner Poetic Rhythm behind. How good does that look now.
His West Yorkshire Hurdle form from earlier in the season at Wetherby is sound now too where he had Lil Rockerfeller (placed in last year's Stayer's) behind.
Fountains Windfall was behind that day too and he'd be 4 out of 4 since if he'd stood up over fences a couple of times.
He's also turned around form with Colin's Sister and looks a Cheltenham specialist,
Trainer Nigel Twiston Davies says he'll go Cleeve Hurdle & if he goes well in that he'll shorten again. I'd fancy him to beat Finians Oscar over hurdles too, so definitely will back him again.
Only doubt would be good ground but he ran well enough in last year's Albert Bartlett.
If Olbg were doing Toilet Tips or Beer Mat fancies he'd be my offering up at this stage as he'll look a corking Each Way poke no matter who turns up on the day.
Fingers crossed he gets there in one piece as I believe he'll be half the price!!

Good luck all & hope to catch up with some of you soon

Good luck with that, RR. He was my Each Way pick for the Albert Bartlett last year. I think he’s progressed, although I think his best trip is over shorter than 3 miles.

I was hoping for The Worlds End to step up this season but, so far, he’s been disappointing.

I’m on Sam Spinner and Thomas Campbell.

My blog going up before Trials Day.

I don't think the Cleeve Hurdle brought any threats to the market leaders. Agrapart is only worth considering (assuming it goes here) if there is a serious amount of rain. I think Wholestone is better at 2m4f, Finnan's Oscar just isn't right for whatever reason and the whole Tizzard yard seems off the boil at present.

Hi all & thanks for wishes The MM

I was far from disappointed about Wholestone's effort in the Cleeve. He travelled like the best horse in the race and wasn't knocked about once chance went and was just outstayed on bad ground.

Effort was more pleasing especially with the Twiston-Davies yard bang out of form and the rest of his runners running like drains on Saturday at Cheltenham.

Agrapart won't be going to Cheltenham according to trainer and they were miles clear of the rest. Colin's Sister was third again just like New Years Day so that form looks stronger again.

Some say Wholestone is better on soft and he probably is, but did win his first 3 races on good and ran well enough on it in the Albert Bartlett last year. I actually think he'll be better on it and it'll allow his stamina to hold out a bit longer.

This race looks his only logical choice and I'm not saying he is a good thing but the 16's I nicked looks good value now considering loads of those above him in the market won't be going there. He's shortening all the time.

He actually will be well in with Sam Spinner considering he was beaten about a length by that one giving him 9lbs earlier in the season.

I must have rose tinted glasses on but as a C&D winner has to be respected and fingers crossed he'll get a nice rest and will be cherry ripe on the day. Hopefully NTD yard will be in better form by then.

Fair to say he'll go a long way to making my Festival if he nails this prize!!!

Good luck all & keep up the healthy debate!

Thinking of doing Lil Rockerfeller with sky bet Each Way as 20/1 for a horse that placed in 2nd place just 3/4 length behind Nichols Canyon last year in this seems a little big.And i think he should be able to win it's race this weekend in style and think the odds will get cut for this it's last run out is a concern but it has placed 3 times from 5 runs at Cheltenham makes me think it might have a chance of placing in this at least.

Good shout titans, I think there are certainly worse Each Way bets around at the minute than Lil Rockerfeller, he ran his heart out in this last year and had them all at it turning into the home straight, he does love it at Cheltenham and the stayers does look quite open this year.

"Alan King confirms Yanworth will go for this."

Not surprised really he doesn't look a natural over the bigger fences, similar to Finians Oscar plenty of class but not the most natural of jumpers.

Good luck Titans Choice with Lil Rockerfeller and wouldn't put you off if he was 20-1 on the day. Been close in the race before but I feel this year's renewal could be a stronger event.

I'm still very keen on Wholestone who has an even better record at Cheltenham than your fancy.

In fact Wholestone had Lil Rockerfeller miles behind when they were 2nd & 3rd behind Colins's Sister at Wetherby back in November and will be 3lb better off in the weights.

So if you fancy yours you got to have a saver on mine!!

Wholestone is a C&D winner to boot and though some think he's not a true stayer I'm sure he'll go close on decent ground.

However if you believe he'll run a massive race in the National Spirit you have to back him now as all he will do is shorten.

Good luck whatever you do and I'm just stating my opinion, but I've backed Wholestone Each Way at 16-1 and the bookies still seem to be underestimating him despite Cheltenham form. I dived in again for a bit of the 14-1 with Hills! Must be blind faith!

Not long to go now!!

Not the best of runs from Lil Rockerfeller today in the Spirit Hurdle but it was definitely better then it's last effort and i still think i have a chance of it placing. But i will admit i am feeling less confident about it now as i did expect Lil Rockerfeller to win that race today.
