Early best ante-post prices for the OLBG Mares Hurdle (as of 1st Nov):
  • Vroum Vroum Mag 5/2
Annie Power 4/1 (likely to bid to try and retain her Champion Hurdle crown)
    Apples Jade 4/1
    Jers Girl 5/1
    Whiteout 6/1
    Limini 7/1

    11/1 Bar
Yet again the market is dominated by Irish mares - why is it that the English challenge seems a fair bit behind the quality of mares in Ireland?

We all know about the incredible run of wins from Quevega but the overall record of Willie Mullins in this race is amazing:

12 runs
8 wins
1 other placed (and Annie Power fell at the last when in a winning position!)

Is Willie going to win our race for the 9th season running or is there an English mare at a big price we should be looking at?

Good question Teddy!

Mullins and Kirk in particular target mares at sales now more than most. They are a better value purchase and there is less risk attached to a gelding.

I know through Supreme Racing, it is certainly a route that is more "affordable" and in my opinion actually the better form of ownership.

Not sure why the English don't compete so well with the Irish, but when horses such as Redhotchillipeppers went to sales, Kirk was straight in and bought her. there wasnt an English buyer willing to take him on!

If they dont buy the best they are not likely to get the best!

Strange feel to the market.

In previous years it was easy, you backed Quevega, paid for the week!

The market now contains many a Mare who wont be there, the only one quoted, where the trainer has come out and said that's the target, is Limini.

I took some early prices on Betfair, 11.20 average. I can't see where else she can run, and she brings a fair level of form to the table. Whether she's good enough, I don't know, she couldn't live with AP, VVM or Apple's Jade, but I suspect she might not have too.

11/2 was available this morning, into 7/2.

VVM, what happens to her now after the sad loss of Vautour.

All change!

I did hear Limini wasn't 100% pleasing anywhere near as much as last year and thats partly why she wont be out as early this year.

I think the race would suit Apples jade well, but to say on good ground Limini couldn't live with AJ i wouldnt be 100% sure. the mares novice probably wasnt a cracking division i accept that- but soemthing tells me after cheltenham she didnt perform anywehre near her best. OK, her best might still not prove good enough, but they clearly fancied Limini at one stage to overturn the Supreme 3rd, which to my mind means she was showing good form in line with Min? if she did return to this i would say she'd beat AJ..purely speculating of course!!

Ricci did say Karalee was ahead of Limini in the pecking order at the beginning of last season in his opinion...and although she's missed a year if she returns sweet she could be the fly in the ointment IMO! big ifs though.

good point from the elliot yard that AJ and IGs hurdle form might not be all that good; despite the wide margin victory; I think we need to see them both

run when fully fit second time out but keeping AJ to its own sex aiming for the OLBG AT THE FESTIVAL could be a clue .As pointed out on the thread with

Vroom Vroom Mag and Min still in the mix its going to be an exciting run up to the festival this season ; Perhaps we will know more after this weekends

open meeting now the rains have come. :?

I've just watched the excellent Interview that Rich Ricci has done with Matt Chapman.

Seem to get the distinct impression, that VVM might not be going for this, positive mentions for Limini and Karalee.............he has always seemed very keen on Karalee.

I've done the Faugheen (CH), VVM (stayers) and Annie Power (OLBG) treble this week. Pays a fraction over 120/1

Missy Tata out for season Im afraid.

Exchanges pointing Annie at our race, Faugheen to Champion.

Could she avenge her costly fall in the 2015 race?

i think this is the likeliest outcome at this stage. it is imperative Faugheen reappears at the end of this month though..

I know the sentiments previously were toward Annie going to Champion, but i've always want Faugheen to go there even though i think he'd mop up over any distance. For me, he should be allowed to prove he is the best hurdler ever. If fitness allows of course...............
