Just watched the piece about Mullins horses having a spin round Leopardstown yesterday. Interesting that Bryan Cooper ride Don Poli who ran around with Vautour, Ballycasey and one other (forget who it was now) and Poli was doing his usual just enough. Vautour made a couple of jumping errors. Then Don Cossack went out with No More Heros and Don Cossack and Cooper rode NMH. He says he's undecided on his GC ride but a hint that he'll ride Don Poli (Davy Russell rode DC in his work).

Cue Card got a run out at Kempton but whilst these work outs are just that and not too much to put any stock in when Paddy Brennan was interviewed by C4 he was literally buzzing talking about Cue Card. Again I don't think it means too much he obviously knows what a good horse he is but nice to hear he is in good form and looking primed for the biggest race of his career.

2010 Champion Bumper Winner
2011 Supreme Novice 4th (Sprinter Sacre 3rd)
2012 Arkle runner up behind Sprinter Sacre
2013 Ryanair Winner
2015 Charlie Hall, Betfair Chase and King George winner

I am getting more and more involved with CUE CARD for the Gold Cup and am failing to see, on form why he is not favourite for the event. A few have said he has had a tough season and it would be an immense training performance for Colin Tizzard to have maintained fitness to complete that quadruple but I just can not bet against it

Obviously agree he should be fav and if trained by a certain W. Mullins I think he would be. However confidence does seem to be slowly growing. The best price of 7/1 a few weeks ago has gone and best price now is 6/1 with Paddy Power and Boylesports. He's even shorter with a few other firms at 11/2 and I suspect on the day he'll be another point or so shorter.

Just spotted CUE CARD is 12/1 to be sent off favourite on the day, I'm going to have a little nibble on that one

Cue Card has won 4 of his 8 starts when sent off Favourite or Joint Favourite but only 1 of his last 5, which was the Charlie Hall Chase.

Key Trends

Postby Pearljam » Mon Feb 29, 2016 8:51 pm

The GC is a pretty strong race for trends (albeit Coneygree blasted some major ones to smithereens last year!). A couple of trends that appear to have been omitted, which I feel are strong ones.

Horses that have already ran in a GC (multiple winners aside) don't win. The winner is almost always running in their first GC

The winner is usually in the first four or so in the betting

You have to have very strong/winning Festival (not Cheltenham) form

On that basis, the winner should come from, Cue Card, Vautour, Don Cossack and Don Poli.

For me, two will very likely stay 3m 2f up the gruelling hill and two most probably won't.

Of the 4 only Don Cossack does not have proven strong/winning Festival form, so for me, it has to be Don Poli.

Similar to a blog I did for the Champion Hurdle, I've done one for the Gold Cup looking at previous course form of past winners and this years contenders.

You got a bet on Don Poli then The Executioner? I don\'t particularly rate Cooper as a top class jockey myself
