Thousands of non-members many of whom are novice punters and not experienced tipsters read and follow the advice in the tipping comments section on the website and OLBG App, so we like to be able to display good quality tip comments. This thread outlines the sort of information and analysis our site users look for when researching the tips.
The purpose of tip comments is to give reasons why you think your selection is a good bet. We then hope OLBG followers will read your comments and, as a result, be able to make a better informed decision about placing a bet on the event in question. When you write a comment try reading it back to yourself and ask ‘if I was uncertain on the outcome of this event would reading this comment help me to place a bet with confidence?” If the answer is no then you either need to rewrite your comment with greater emphasis on your key pointers for your selection, or if unable to perhaps consider placing the tip without adding a comment.
The pointers below outline the sort of content our site and app users look for when reading your tip comments.
Easy To Read = Easy To Back -
Tips with typo’s and lack of punctuation can be difficult to read and are therefore less likely to be followed by others. Always check your tips before submitting them, avoid using all BLOCK capitals and make sure they are written in good English!
Don’t Just State The Obvious -
Just saying one team or horse is better than another isn’t enough, we need to know why. Good tip comments should use valid reasoning to back up opinion. Tip comments should make others want to back your tip so explain why you fancy it, don’t just tell everyone that you do fancy it.
Find The Right Balance Between Stats And Explanation -
Nearly all research can be quantified into statistics and it’s almost impossible to argue against them but simply listing a load of stats without any explanation isn’t that helpful. Back up what you have to say with stats but remember that you are making a case for a selection, not just giving out information.
Give The Reader A Surprise -
Think outside the box when giving your tip reasoning to make your tips stand out from other tips on the same outcome. If you can include information that hasn’t been widely reported or use trends that are being overlooked you could gain more followers by showing punters angles they haven’t considered. Also try not to make your tips all follow the same format.
Be Aware of Other Tips -
Why not have a look at the tips posted by others before you post your own tips? You’ll get a good idea of the sort of quality write ups that are expected and you might even notice something that affects your confidence in your own tip.
Beware Overconfidence -
Hopefully you are confident about your selection’s chances but stating a selection is “nailed on”, a “dead cert” or “put your house on it” isn’t helpful as sure things don’t exist in betting. If you are really confident about a selection just concentrate on making the best case possible for its chances rather than talking about how confident you are.
Here are some good examples of tips comments, some have been added by members and others have been constructed to show the sort of content that OLBG followers can use to help guide them with their betting decisions.
Football Example -
Spanish La Liga – Barcelona to beat Valencia
“Leaders Barcelona have dropped just one point at home, winning eight of their last nine and four were against top six sides. Valencia have only beaten the bottom side Deportivo La Coruna, but did win here at the Nou Camp last season also after another poor start to that campaign. In conclusion Barcelona’s recent form looks hard to oppose especially with Messi available after injury and with Neymar and Suarez amongst the goals recently, the firepower available should be decisive against a Valencia side that have failed to keep a clean sheet in all five away games this season.
Horse Racing Example -
Zarwaan - Britannia Handicap 2014 Ascot
The horses have been coming stands side in recent big field handicaps at Ascot and the majority of the pace in this race is drawn high also (8 of the 11 front runners are drawn 19 or higher) so we should concentrate on high numbers. One that stands out is Zarwaan (drawn 24). When winning his maiden last year he beat Strategical by 2.25 lengths and that horse is now rated 102, Zarwaan is only rated 101 here. Zarwaan has gone up 9lbs this season for finishing second twice but he was better than the bare result on both occasions. At Newbury he had to give weight to a Muwaary who came 4th in the French Guineas next time. It's also worth noting the next 5 horses home at Newbury either won or finished 2nd on their next starts. Then Zarwaan ran a cracker at Haydock on desperate ground when the Ed Dunlop stable had only just re opened after a virus. Back on better ground here he can get his first win of the season before competing in better company.
Tennis Example -
Serena Williams v Victoria Azarenka
“Six of the last nine head to head meetings have gone the distance between Williams and Azarenka but following Serena's win against Heather Watson the former champion has certainly upped her game for week two of Wimbledon. A straight sets win over her sister Venus was another warning shot to the rest that the American means business and is after another slice of history. Victoria is playing well as straight set wins against Mladenovic and Bencic would suggest but I feel with Kvitova, Halep and Wozniacki out, the Serena slam is on and Azarenka is just next in line. The Belarusian will be no pushover based on grass court form and Victoria herself is a grand slam champion. Williams 2 sets to 1 for me.”
Darts Example -
Gurney v Wattimena
“2016 has been a good year for Daryl Gurney, the Irishman has cemented his place in the top 32 and I'm sure his next aim will be to try and force his way in to the top 16. This has come as a result of several good runs on the Pro Tour circuit, European Tour and at the World Grand Prix, he also reached the semi finals of the World Cup alongside Dolan for Northern Ireland. At times this year his scoring has looked so natural and looks like he could compete with anyone, but still isn't producing that standard often enough yet. Wattimena is a steady player but rarely shows signs of troubling the better players and I'm not sure he has it in him to really improve on that, also his record at the TV tournaments doesn't read well and I can only see a comfortable win for Gurney here.
Cricket Example -
Kolkata Knight Riders v Sunrisers Hyderabad
KKR come into this match in good form with Gambhir and Uthappa both hitting 50’s in the previous match and Morkel having already taken 10 wickets in this season’s IPL.. Hyderabad are struggling particularly the batsmen at present and having won only one of their 4 games so far in this season’s IPL, on current form my selection is Kolkata to win this match.
NFL Hints -
Include player information, are either teams missing vital players through injury or suspension? Or likewise, do they have players returning from injury or suspension which is a real boost for them? Which players are in form and which players have not been performing to the expected level.
Player information
• Are there players missing through injury or suspension?
• Are there players returning from injury or suspension?
• Are there players who perform well against the team they are playing?
• For touchdown scorers, we are looking for stats to back up that pick.
Team information
• Recent team form, on a good run? Have they beaten good teams?
• Head-to-head performance, does one team dominate?
• Performance coming off a bye week or similar, coming off back-to-back wins etc
Other Factors
• Will the weather have an effect?
• Strong winds, more running? Less throwing?
• Snow or Rain? How will that affect the game?
• Coaching changes, are there any new coaching staff?
Anything you think will make your comment unique and offer the reading a useful piece of information that they cannot look up in 30 seconds.
You can use sites like NFL.com & ESPN to find the latest news from the NFL including injuries and statistics when you are researching for your tips.
We hope the above examples from a brief selection of sports has given some useful pointers and we look forward to reading your tip comments on OLBG.
Good luck with your tips.

Hi PompeyJim
Sorry about the last post, I dkdn't realise my partner hadn't checked out. I was trying her laptop to see if it made a difference, as she is able to make comments. Alas, I am still not getting a comments box.

Hello Mods
I seem to be having problems making a tip without a comment.
Once I've entered amount and then win or each-way, click confirm and then onto the next page to confirm or cancel - but will not scroll down to final confirm!
I'm in Horse Racing Tip section - haven't tried any other section though.
Can you please help?
Cheers

Hi Paulev,
This problem should have been fixed now but you may be picking up the old format still, if you can clear the browser cache and then try again and all should be fine.

Hye,
there are some user who are posting their personal details like mobile no., website name and saying ''we have 1000% fixed report" etc. in Cricket comments from last few days, instead of posting reasons they are just promoting themselves.
So is their any option to report these type of people?
