hello there fellow OLBG football fans & punters, hope you've all had a cracking start to the new season with your bets & teams that you follow.

I'm pretty busy right now with work & other stuff right so this season I'm looking at having one main focus on here in terms of football and so while I'll do extra blogs & forum stuff on other subjects from time to time, my focus will be on the weekend football betting challenge that I'm doing via my blogs.

Basically I've set myself the challenge of whenever possible, coming up with interesting and hopefully successful weekend football punts with the idea of mixing up the markets, leagues etc which I bet on, one week it might be a correct score Lucky 15, another week it's concentrating on one match, or it could be a series of accumulators, either way the challenge is to find the bets, post my thoughts and keep everything crossed it results in a profit.

I'll be recording my detailed thoughts within my blogs, here is my latest offering :-

full details on the blog with statistics & reasons explaining my selection but basically my focus this weekend is my belief that there is scope & value available in taking on Manchester City and backing Stoke City to get a result of some kind, with STOKE DOUBLE CHANCE my main bet at 11/10 (Stoke to win or Draw)

take a look & see what you think, more importantly I want people to join in on here and see what you can come up with for the weekend, it really can be anything you want as long as it's football related and it's for the weekend action.

So if you are interested then come & join in, let the battle against the bookmakers commence!!!

Hello all,

With a few games under our belts in the football league now I feel I can now start to post a few selections for my weekend football challenge...

I have posted my thoughts on the following games on my tips page if anyone is interested in my thought process

Each week I will be staking 10 points on three singles and one treble, today I am going with...

Hartlepool @ 2.5
Newport County v Crewe Over +2.5 goals @ 2.05
Plymouth @ 2.15

2 points on each single & 4 points on the treble ( @ 11.01) all with bet365

Best of luck to all.

Hi Tommy. Been waiting for you to start this thread again. My treble for today is

Brum v Wolves-draw @ 23/10. Not expecting a high scoring game and think no goalscorer @ 7/1 looks tempting.

Millwall win v Sheff Utd @ 11/10. Expecting big things from Millwall this season and they will be hurting after being smashed midweek.

Plymouth win v Mansfield @ 5/4. Again I think Plymouth will have a good season. The weather will play havoc with some games and should be a few draws today but home advantage will pay.

Treble works out at just over 15/1. Good luck all, Carlos.

Here's my go at a fourfold
Chelsea to beat watford looked good against west ham hazard looking up for it this season watford wont be a pushover but think chelsea will have to much for em.
Qpr to beat preston, preston have had an awful start to the season qpr at home should be winning.
Bolton to beat fleetwood, bolton looking good in this division and to get out of it they need to be beating teams like fleetwood at home.
And accrington to beat a poor exeter side who hav'nt got a point out of 3 games.
Fourfold pays just over 11/1
Good luck folks.

For a few seasons now, myself and a couple of mates ( The Castle Donington Syndicate :win: ) have put a bet on each weekend comprising of 4 selections in 1.25 point trebles and a 1 point fourfold, staking a total of 6 points, with 3 winners returning between 7-10 points and 4 winners returning between 35 - 70 points.
over a season we have had a few weekends with 3 winners and occasionally had weekends with 4 winners
It adds a bit of interest to the weekend and builds up a small pot for betting at other event (chelt/Aintee etc)

I just hope by putting the selections on here will not be the kiss of death for the season!!!!

we had our first bet last weekend with zero returns (things can only get better)

todays bet is:

QPR @ 3
Hartlepool @ 2.4
Portsmouth @ 1.75
Burton @ 3.1

1.25point trebles
1 point 4 fold

last weeks returns = 0
last week profit/loss = -6 points

bet summary
No of bets 1
total staked = 6 pts
returns = 0
profit/loss = -6 points

I thought Stoke would get a draw at a windswept Britannia against Man City. I wonder if anyone got the correct score because tbuckley got the 1-4 score-line (as I remember) in the 2015 game.

Sorry about late response but been enjoying first few days of my 2 week break with my family

cheers to Mazeymay, Veedub, CapnBob, weyayeman, mathewb & carlos for joining in on here and great to have you on board with this, it's all about sharing thoughts and ideas and hopefully people will benefit from that, both by learning something and getting a few winners along the way.

As for my own picks this weekend then it all evolved around my belief Stoke would get something against Man City, I stand by my logic and reasoning for believing that but I didn't count for Shawcross being an absolute muppet again to again try wrestling somebody in the penalty area, up until City scored wit that opening penalty then Stoke were bang in the match and City were under some pressure.

Nobody knows how the game would have gone without that penalty but I think there is justification to believe that it would have been still level at half time and that would have made the game different, in the end my predictions for stoke win or draw, both teams to score No and under 2.5 goals were all made to look silly with the 4-1 final scoreline.

Regarding the final 4-1 scoreline then well done CapnBob for remembering that I did correctly tip & back that same score a couple of seasons back, it was something like 33/1 and it helped me win a tipping comp on here so that was nice, cheers for reminding me

This week was disappointing but I'll get my thinking cap on again and come back later in the week with my next version of weekend football betting challenge blog.

Thanks for the interesting selections, some good ones put up including Plymouth to beat my local side Mansfield, I actually work near the ground so glad I wasn't at work this weekend as punters would have been miserable again lol

Millwall beat Sheffield United to inflict more early season misery on the Blades, I know the manager is new there and he's a Sheffield United fan etc but those owners will be getting twitchy already, I know from my time working in Sheffield for the local newspaper that the Sheff United owners have got big plans & they want to realise those plans pretty quickly.

given how it's gone for Sheff United so far I'd certainly be wanting to oppose them and most definitely not back them yet.

Keep the weekend football thoughts & bets coming, we'll soon have the bookies on the run again!!!

Hello there, we've got family stuff planned for rest of this week so I've used my spare time today to get this weekend's version of the weekend football betting challenge blog done & on-line :-

you can read my full views on the blog but basically my focus this weekend is on two different Premier League matches this weekend, Tottenham vs Liverpool and Everton vs Stoke.

for me they are the two most interesting matches this weekend and I think they offer interesting betting options, the details in the blog but I'm again putting my faith in Stoke City to get something at Everton based on their largely excellent recent record against them including winning the last two times at Goodison & 3 of the last 4, I was tempted with going with stoke win and I think it's possible but the draw appeals slightly more so I'm covering that as well.

Tottenham vs Liverpool certainly was a challenge to look at and work through my mind as to what approach to take from a betting perspective, recent history suggests Liverpool have a great chance given their record, the results are in the blog, but basically they've not been beaten by Tottenham since 2012 and have won 5 of the last 7.

The quandary being Liverpool's rubbish, leaky defence and last week's tame defeat at Burnley, Tottenham's quality, home advantage and Pochettino being in charge, it's a game that should suit Liverpool better and they do better against bigger teams but I don't think it's right that Liverpool are 8/13 to win or get a Draw.

I like both teams to score in that match & I also like the draw given it's the biggest price, the last 2 matches between them have been draws and I think that's the value call again.

Fingers crossed for that lot, hopefully get back on the winning track this weekend and finish off with some profitable bets before I have a full week off betting, studying & writing.

After my break I'll look at different options again with the weekend football betting challenge, I've now done 3 weeks on the Premier League so I probably will give the lower leagues a look and might try a few correct scores etc, we'll see what the fixtures look like.

Feel free to join me again on here, looking forward to seeing what people come up with this weekend. :win:

Now the midweek European football is done I'm hoping people join me on here again this weekend with more really interesting bets & thoughts to consider.

regarding my own picks mentioned before then I see that Both Teams To Score odds have shortened in the Tottenham vs Liverpool match from 8/13 to 4/7 and the price of the Draw was 13/5 but now cut to 5/2, Tottenham to win was 13/10 now 7/5, interesting to see the markets change like that.

my full weekend betting challenge thoughts are on the blog :-

basically best scenario for me is for a scoring draw in the Tottenham vs Liverpool match and a Draw between Everton & Stoke

all the best with your bets, interesting to see what people offer this weekend

seasons bet summary before todays bets:

last weeks returns = 0
last week profit/loss = -6 points

bet summary
No of bets 2
total staked = 12 pts
returns = 0
profit/loss = -12 points
My selections for today are (prices from Betfair sportsbook):

Brentford 2.75
Ipswich 2.1
Bradford 1.75
Sheff Utd 2.0

3 x 1.25pts trebles
1pt 4 fold

total staked = 6pts
potential returns = 68.50pts

all of the above are taken from my competition entries although in the OLBG comp I have gone for Brentford on the Asian Handicap.

Another team I think is a big price for the home win is Birmingham, well worth a bet on the Asian Handicap :win:

2 out of 3 last week so onwards and upwards.

Norwich @ 6/5. Got their tails up at the mo. Won't be easy away to Brum but fancy a narrow 1-0 win.

Huddersfield v Wolves draw @ 12/5. This will be a cracking match. Both teams to score for me so 1-1 or 2-2.

Oxford @ 3/1. This has to be a stand out bet even if neither team are pulling up trees.

Treble works out at just under 29/1. Good luck all, Carlos.
