Can online blackjack ever be profitable in the long run?

Postby OlbgDeleted208994 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 2:15 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new to online betting and have recently found blackjack to be quite profitable. To my surprise I have actually made a steady profit over the 5 months that I have been playing. I know that the odds are slightly more in The Online Casino's favour, however I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be possible to make a long term profit? Or is it best to quit while you're ahead?

The short answer is no... simply because the game of BlackJack and other casino games are specifically designed to give a small margin to the house over the long run. You may hit 'winning' streaks over a short term (and yes that could be a few months) but in the long-term the more you play the more certain there will be just one outcome - you lose, they win.

Thanks for your reply ebookconverter. I understand what you're saying, I suppose it's just been going so well that I've convinced myself that if I play safe and with discipline like I have been doing then I could continue to make a profit.

I'm at that point now where I'm considering upping the stakes to increase my winnings, but I can see how that could be my undoing. I've heard a lot of horror stories about blackjack and roulette recently which is what has made me start to question how I can keep winning without having an edge ie. card counting.

Although I'm curious to see how long this winning streak could go on for, I think I'll take the money and just continue with sports betting for now.

superandrew: You asked two questions in one:

(1) Is it possible to make a long term profit? The answer is no. Remember, if you and the dealer both bust, the dealer wins. That is what gives the dealer (the house) its advantage and that’s what makes it very unlikely that you could make a long term profit.

(2) Is it best to quit while you’re ahead? In my personal opinion, the answer is no. The house advantage in blackjack is quite small (about 0.5%) and the game – with its unique mix of luck and strategy – is so much fun, that I find it worthwhile to absorb the inevitable losses for the sake of the pleasure I get from playing this great game. But it’s really up to you.

Everthing is possible. Have your known there is a big whale that has been banned because had beaten the blackjack dealers in Las Vegas casinos.

If you are sure to be able prpfit with your system in the long run. Please keep it on. But if you are unsure, better stake with a small bucks to test your system.

Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news superandrew, but if there is one thing that the bookies love more than a mug punter...its a casino punter because lets be honest,,there's no bigger mug than a casino punter!.

Mathematically its simply not possible to win long term on casino games.. use them regularly and its unlikely you will ever get your account closed down.
..because there is always another day...

If I dyed my hair blonde, shaved off my moustache, put on about 4 stone in weight, wore a pretty pink dress and donned a few tattoos and metallic accessories, maybe you could help me get into some of the real casinos I haven't been able to visit for a while.

Unfortunately more casinos are using shuffling machines now though and they might let me in - but they don't use those infernal machines simply to prevent their dealers' arms aching from shuffling cards themselves every 10 minutes.

The Online Casinos ( in effect ) use shuffling machines with an infinite number of cards in their standard versions. Even with live dealers the skilled player is at a greater disadvantage than in a face to face game. The average player has little hope and the mug has none at all!

Yes, I can profit from playing online Blackjack, but only occasionally and in short spells - oh, and using some sort of promotion in the first place helps!

Live dealers have improved the concept but not really benefitted the punter.

Do NOT play the 'free' version , win money and expect to do the same with real money.

When an online casino dealer got 27 in free play, I took a screenshot and complained that as I had a winning hand, why did the dealer hit a hard 17 in an attempt to beat me.

The answer I got was amazing! It can't happen in real money games as we use a different program.

To my mind, the only reason to pay for the development of two different programs is because the casino wants two different results.

It actually looked almost as though the dealer's total was 'predetermined' in the free games to give a greater payout and cards were dealt simply to attain that total.

At least a moral victory - the Gaming authorities got the casino to take the faulty option off the site until rectified.

According to me, it is not a profitable in the long run. Blackjack make it impossible to gain an edge in the long run over the house. And it give a small margin.
