OFL VIII - WEEK 5

Postby Chipmonkadidooda » Wed Oct 04, 2017 7:05 pm

Welcome to week 5 of the OFL

Before we kick off proceedings for week 5, after 4 weeks of season 8 it's becoming glaringly obvious that there is a definite power base in the OFL - the AFC. read on....

Image

Seasons 1 through 5 in the OFL were undeniably blue. The likes of the Orangemen, Redhawks, 76ers and the Chargers dominated the Portno trophy and the NFC trio of the Redhawks, Chargers and Orangemen had a stranglehold on the OFL Power rankings top 3 for years. It was annual mockery exacted on the AFC by the NFC that they had never ever had a team take charge of the Portno Trophy and be crowned not only AFC Champions, but Superbolbg Champions. Season 6 then saw the unthinkable happen. As the Raider Pain became the first ever AFC team to beat an NFC team in the February event and be crowned Superbolbg champions it was still being touted as a potential one off by those dressed in blue. Yes the AFC won the 2nd Pro-Bowl, but even so the Pain had hardly torn up the season that season and actually got to the playoffs in unconvincing fashion via the wildcards. 5-1 to the NFC - no big worry.

Or so we thought....

Fast forward to the end of last season. Another full season under our belts and another AFC Superbolbg victory. back to back Portno's for the red side in a season which the AFC certainly showed they were the dominant conference. The Pain didn't win the big one, but they tore up the record books on more than one page. The Pro-Bowl was shared, but the general consensus was the NFC were lucky to level it out. The Colts made the switch from blue to red a few seasons before and they then went on to win back to back divisional titles in the AFC South and then won the big one in superb fashion. The blue loss was the reds gain it seems.

Fast forward to week 4 of season 8 and has the gap widened even further?

The only 2 unbeaten teams left in the OFL are in the AFC and both the Indians and the Colts look a cut above everyone else in the OFL at present. The AFC have NO teams without a win after 4 weeks - the NFC has 4 without a win! The AFC are outscoring the NFC through 4 weeks by a massive 322 points. They have 12 more wins than the AFC after just 64 games. 12 AFC teams sit with a record .500 or better compared to just 9 in the NFC. 7 of the top 11 offences in the OFL currently are owned by red franchises. The Indians are allowing only 9.3 ppg - 5 points better than anyone else!!

In the last 2 years the new franchises into the AFC have certainly fared better then their NFC counterpart rookies and it would appear they have added to the strength. Can the same be said of the NFC? The Comancheros and Mustangs both went to the playoffs in their opening seasons. The AFC have replaced existing franchises with quality. Only this season the AFC lost one of their big guns in LB1975, but the Cowboys look like they're in more than capable hands with the 3-1 AwayTeam. Similarly the Argonauts in the same division have improved to become a seeming genuine force this season in the same division currently winning 9 from the last 11. The Bobcats have come into the AFC East and have also added quality. The Eagles admittedly struggled in the opening season after replacing a decent MikeMackintosh outfit, but this season they are showing at 2-2 they may have grasped the OFL nettle - this weekends trip to the Monkhouse could be the biggest indicator yet that the force of the NFC is dwindling. The AFC are even seeing existing long standing franchises respond to their AFC counterparts - the Concordes a great example. The AFC time is now.

Conversely in the NFC some of our more recent franchise have imploded a little. The Terminators have collapsed in the last season and a half after 2 division winning seasons, the NFC admittedly lost a heavyweight this off-season with JLB2000 leaving the RedHawks and a genuine OFL Power Rank permanent resident has left. The Jedi Knights and new look RedHawks are at present struggling. Compound that with veteran franchises in the NFC going through lean spells. Biggest of all the Orangemen who are now 1-3 this season and without a divisional title in 2 seasons have lost their dynasty tag of a few seasons ago. Even the Texan Tartans appear to be slipping back to their horror seasons of a few years ago. Yes, there are bright spots. As the Orangemen have falted of late, in their place in the NFC West the Apaches have been a shining light of hope in the NFC and they have brought genuine Superbolbg credentials with them. The A'Bombs too are in blistering form so far this season but will they maintain it? Similarly the Beths Bills have now become a force in the NFC and we are even seeing growing strength in the likes of the Tykes, Patriots and Maulers, but is the pace of change and improvement in the AFC putting the NFC to shame?

Image

The Chargers may still be No1 in the OFL Power Rankings, but the next 4 places from 2 to 5 are filled with AFC teams and currently 6 of the 10 places in the OFL Power Rankings are occupied by the red half of the OFL. 3 years ago it was 6-4 to the NFC with the next 3 places from 11 to 13 all blue.

Can the NFC put up any threat to the AFC this season? Have they lost their strength in depth?

Over to you...

WEEK 5 QUARTER QUESTIONS

QUARTER 1
3 of the worst 8 defences in the NFL are all on show early doors on Sunday. The Indianapolis Colts (1-3), Tennessee Titans (2-2) and New York Giants (0-4) are giving up more yards to their opponents than most others.

How many total yards will all these 3 teams give up to their opponents this weekend?

Total yards will be: Passing yards allowed + Rushing yards allowed + Penalty yards given
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QUARTER 2
Right a bit of a twist........the answer to Quarter 2 is 100. From all the teams who are playing at 1pm, home and away you need to pick up to 4 teams that you think will amass as close to 100 points as you can. You can if you wish just pick 1, 2 or 3 teams, but you can only pick a maximum of 4 teams. They must all be playing in the early 1pm games. Let's see how this one goes!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOME TEAM 2 MINUTE OFFENCE
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS(0-4)@NEW YORK GIANTS(0-4)
Who wins the game for 3 points, will the game have more of less than 44.5 points.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QUARTER 3
Onto the late games as usual. We have only 3 games kicking off at 4pm(ish). HIghlight of these is the Cowboys facing the Packers in Arlington. WHat will be the total of the following:

Dak Prescotts passing yards
+
Total game points
+
Longest punt return in the game
+
Longest fieldgoal ATTEMPT in the game
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QUARTER 4
From ALL the SUNDAY games (Including Kansas@Houston), How many passing touchdowns will we see made from outside the red-zone? (Red-zone is outside 20 yards). So we need the total number of passing touchdowns longer than 20 yards. Only the touchdown throw counts, not the full drive) Clear?

A pick 6 from an intercepted pass DOES NOT COUNT
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROAD TEAM 2 MINUTE OFFENCE
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS(4-0)@ HOUSTON TEXANS(2-2)
Who wins the game for 3 points, will the game have more or less than 46.5 points?

Playbook in nice and early.

Bobcats not expecting too much on the road to a champ and without being able to play a defensive armoury card, with both NO and Denver on byes!

Best of luck Loz (think I might need it more than you though!)

Despite getting absolutely humped in a disgraceful shutout last week, the Redhawks are feeling confident this week, and are happy to take another £50 on the +5.5 points even, especially seeing the way that Gingerzolas team is performing in the dynasty league they share

Fancy trading your Denver defensive armoury card for one of mine?
