SUPERBOLBG VIII OFF-SEASON NEWS

Postby Chipmonkadidooda » Sat Jun 24, 2017 11:24 am

To all,

I have emailed a couple of people who were on the waiting list last season who didn't get a place, but as yet they have not replied. As a result I am posting this thread to ask anyone interested in playing in next seasons OFL competition to please put their name down here. At the moment we have just 1 FREE PLACE.

Please be aware of the commitment to playing. It is a season long competition running to the end of January/beginning of February.

There may be more than 1 free place open in the next few weeks, so I will run on a first come first served basis from this thread.

For anyone who has not seen what the OFL and SUPERBOLBG is all about, firstly where have you been for the last 7 years (!!!) and secondly it's a great community game on here with real cash prizes, but more importantly a truly unique prediction based fantasy NFL themed game which has grown to great heights on OLBG over the last 7 years! You'll enjoy the banter, the rivalry and you Sundays watching the NFL will never be the same again as you cheer on random acts, teams and plays for no other reason than to WIN IN THE OFL!

Those not familiar with the comp should check the previous threads and the OFL website which supports the game. (link at the bottom of my signature).

Many thanks.

...and as a taster, what do we have in-store for our opening weekend in the OFL?

Image

Season 8 is upon us. We'll see some more milestones this year if we get to February unscathed, not least in week 9 this season when the OFL will celebrate it's 2000th GAME!. Several teams will reach their own personal milestone of playing their 100th game too in the OFL. No mean acheivement! Hell we are the OFL and we have more history than both teams in Los Angeles put together!!!!!

Week 1 will kick off with a BANG!

No less than 7 divisional clashes to get the divisions started. First up the COMANCHEROS travel to JAYDUBS JUGGERNAUTS (Formerly Aviators!) and that will be interesting as the COMANCHEROS will be holding the 1st draft pick of this season. The JUGGERNAUTS went oh so close to claiming the title last year and will want to put early breathing space in this time around.

The NFC Champions, the BETHS BILLS will travel to the TERMINATORS as two teams with massively different fortunes last season clash in week 1

In the AFC NORTH, back to back champions the INDIANS will renew an age old rivalry early as they travel to the SWINES. Last season they met in week 2 at the STY and the SWINES edged out the eventual champions 17-13. It's a fixture the SWINES have never lost in 5 attempts on their home soil (5-0)!

What of our current Portno Champions? It couldn't be spicier! The Pirates have already intimated they want a better season this time around and so they will travel to the all conquering COLTS in week 1 and hope to put early pressure on them! This fixture was a 21-31 loss last season and they are yet to beat the COLTS at Indiana Field in 2 attempts.

The NFC EAST kicks off with all 4 playing each other. The biggest rivalry of recent times waits for no man and it sparks off straight away as the CHARGERS travel to the current and new NFC EAST champions the JLB2000 REDHAWKS. These two have contested the title in this division every year and so an early score over the other could be decisive even in week 1! With the ever improving GJA1979 TYKES threatening to crash the title party in the NFC East they will hope to get off to an early start hosting the HELLDWELLERS.

Two title holders square up at the Gravel Pit as the GINGERZOLA MAULERS fare against back to back NFC West champions the GMAN84 APACHES. They have met just the once before back in season 6 and the Apaches ran out 22-10 winners here in the Gravel Pit. Can the APACHES make it 3 titles in a row?

How about those CONCORDES? Undoubtedly the story of the season last season for me as they went within a whisker of being NFC South champions for the first time in 7 years and went to the post season for the first time ever. They have a tough opener hosting the LB1975 COWBOYS who will want to put the AFC West trophy back in their cabinet from the PAIN!

And what of our 2 new rookie franchises this year? The toughest on paper certainly goes the way of the DANBRADLEY BOBCATS! They will host the RAIDER22 PAIN and will kick off our OFL season with the opening game! The PAIN were imperious in the regular season last season en route to their OFL record breaking 16 game winning streak and a franchise best 13-3 season record. Welcome to the OFL with a boom BOBCATS!

The NFC South's new JJ JEDI KNIGHTS will go to the BORUTKO GOLDHAWKS in the opening weekend. The GOLDHAWKS will be eager to turn their franchise around after last seasons 4-12 record and they are currently on a 3 game losing streak at the Golden Dome. With both outfits holding high draft picks however this could be a spicy start to the JEDI KNIGHTS OFL beau. The GOLDHAWKS will be one of '100 club' franchises this season as their week 5 match against the KANKEANO BEARS will be the franchises 100th game in the OFL!

OFL HEADQUARTERS 14-JUL-2017

***OPR RANKINGS DETERMINED***

The provisional OFL POWER RANKINGS have been updated ready for the start of the 17-18 season. These are the preliminary rankings based upon the end of last season. These rankings DO NOT include and are NOT influenced by 'in-season performance' which does affects your placings from week to week when the season in underway. These rankings are purely based upon historic performance from completed seasons. The movements are based upon the difference between the start of last seasons positions (SVII) and todays position (SVIII)

There have been several tweaks to how the rankings are determined for the start of this year to make it fairer and more accurate (see next post).

The top 2 remain the same. Whilst the CHARGERS lost their NFC East title, they still progressed in the playoffs to the divisional semi-finals after a 10-6 season so maintained their position at the top. Similarly the INDIANS won their division for the 4th time, albeit with a much reduced 9-7 record from their previous year but went to the AFC Conference Final and so start No2 overall. The JLB2000 REDHAWKS move 3 places into the top 3 as they won the NFC East and went to the NFC Conference final. They leapfrog the Cowboys who slip 1 place to 4th from where they were when season 7 started.

The RJHOLLAND ORANGEMENS 2 seasons without a divisional title and a lack of playoff games is now starting to affect what was once a rock solid OFL rank. They slip a further place to 5th. After a winning SUPERBOLBG VI run from the RAIDER22 Pain last year propelled them back into the top 10 they followed that up with a stunning record-breaking 13-3 season and into the playoffs in season 7. That has earned them a further jump to 6th overall. They did peak to a franchise best 4th late last season based upon their 'in-season' performances and another good season this time around could see them break the top 3. Of course it's no surprise to see our two finalists from last year gain plenty of places. Firstly the current NFC champions, the BETHS BILLS take a huge leap of 13 places to 14th overall and actually now sit just below both the TEXAN TARTANS (12th) and the 76ERS (13th). Our newly crowned SUPERBOLBG champions move into the top 10 and rise 6 places to 9th. The JOHNO COLTS have been rising steadily for the past 3 seasons and now hit the top 10 for the first season before the season starts. They did rise to 4th at the back end of last season with their in-season stats pushing them higher. Once again like the PAIN, the COLTS are priming themselves for an assault on the top 5 or even higher.

The CONCORDES rise 5 places and out of the bottom 3 for the first time in their history on the back of their wondrous run last season. The biggest casualties at the start of this season are the Comancheros and the Eagles. For STAMINA they were provisionally ranked 5th at the start of last season after a brilliant rookie season, but an inability to match their hot rookie season last season and actually finish with a 3-13 record has seriously dented their provisional ranking and they start out 21st: a fall of 16 places. The Eagles are in a different place. The MIKEMACKINTOSH eagles sat 7th, but a change of headcoach meant they had to start again under new coach BRUMMIE and so after their own 3-13 record they fall down to 30th overall based upon just 1 season of history.

For those that are interested (and utterly anal like me, GJA1979 you need not comment!), the way the OFL POWER RANK of each teams is reached will change. As we now have seven years of history it is evident that some areas of the OPR score are being prejudiced toward those with more history. For instance 2 areas that determine the OPR ranking is the amount of clean sheets in games and the number of times teams have failed to score in games (there are 20 factors – all described on the website on the OPR RANKING PAGE).

So as an example one team who has been in the comp for 7 years has 5 clean sheets, but we also have a team who has been in the comp for 4 seasons and has 4 clean sheets. On the current OPR ranking the team with 5 clean sheets would score higher than the team with 4 clean sheets, but they have been in the comp for 3 more years so have had more chance to tot up those clean sheets. What the OPR rank should reflect is the ‘tendency’ for clean sheets based upon the number of games played. So this would mean:

CHIPMONK CHARGERS 7 seasons 126 games 11 shut-outs.
OLD OPR Rank – 11 shut outs = RANK 3rd (Orangemen #1 with 15, Indians #2 with 12)
PER GAME TENDENCY: (= NUMBER OF GAMES / NUMBER OF SHUT OUTS) Shut out every 0.087 games.
NEW OPR Rank 9th

JAYDUBS JUGGERNAUTS 1 season 16 games 2 shut-outs
OLD OPR Rank – 2 shut-outs = RANK 21st
PER GAME TENDENCY: (=NUMBER OF GAMES / NUMBER OF SHUT OUTS) Shut out every 0.125 games
NEW OPR Rank1st

Similarly this would be reflected in the tendency for teams who fail to score themselves in games. The same rule will apply based on the tendency and not simply the number of times. This will also apply to several other contributing rankings that were previously based around totals rather than tendency based upon regularity and total games played in the OFL (home games without scoring, home games without conceding, road without scoring and road games without conceding). This makes the algorithm for determining the OFL POWER RANK fairer and more precise.
To everyone reading thinking, “wtf are you on about?” just humour me! I’m sure the Jims, the Johno’s, the Staminas, the Gman84s and the Raider22s of this world might take a passing interest!!!

Yes i'm very sad I know, but this is the level of detail that this comp has reduced me to!!
