Jim as you say preseason is nearly here and that means it's nearly fantasy draft time and i was wondering where would you rank Andrew Luck among the QBs for this season?

I think for the most part he's turned out to be pretty disappointing after his rookie season. He's had injuries, and he's been the victim of a poor offensive line at Indy. As far as Fantasy is concerned, he has the potential to rack up points if he stays healthy. As you know yourself Fantasy doesn't need a QB with a winning team (Drew Brees for example), so it's about how the fantasy points are scored and the player playing in every game.

The New England Patroits no longer have the power running back LeGarrette Blount who has joined the Philadelphia Eagles but also joining him in Philadelphia will be in my opinion a wide receiver Alshon Jeffery who has to be in the top 15 if not in the top 10 and if he plays the whole season will definitely get at least 1000 yards.Philadelphia finished bottom of the NFC East last year with 7 wins and 9 losses and with these 2 players joining them they have to be more competitive in a tough looking division

Anyone ever bother with a bet on the preseason games. I haven't but I'll have to put my mind to it at some point because there are definitely some teams that lost good preseason records every year.

The main bulk of the Week 1 games get underway tonight. I'll watch the Redskins - Ravens game when I get up in the morning on game pass.

It's kinda hard to really get yourself pumped-up for preseason games. I used to think it was like friendly soccer games where the good players got a run-out while not having to try too hard, but watching that documentary a couple of seasons back which showed how the preseason games are the last chances for people who never got picked in the draft or afterwards to get a real chance of securing a place on any team's roster, it shed the preseason games in new light for me. I'll watch some when they're on, and when I do so I now find I am not watching a team or taking anything into effect for a team, it's about players - players who will play preseason for one team, then end up perhaps being picked up by another team if cut.

Preseason games are player showcases. They bear no real resemblance to the teams who actually take the field in week one. Entertaining, nonetheless - I'm not in any way putting them down - but I certainly see them in a different light nowadays :win:

I wrote this last week on another thread about preseason,

Preseason starts tonight with Arizona vs Dallas in the traditional curtain raiser, the Hall of Fame game. Now betting on preseason games is something I generally advise against, but if you dig around enough and pay close attention to training camp, there can be plenty of value opportunities in the NFL.

Week 3 of preseason is the week that the starters will see most of their action and the playbooks that are on show during preseason are very vanilla.

I tend to watch out for those teams who have competition at QB or RB as I feel that not only are the players more fired up to prove their worth, but the coaches look to throw in a few tougher plays that may cause a 2nd or 3rd team defense plenty of confusion.

Looking ahead to the first full week of preseason and there's a few I have my eye on. 38 points in the Steelers-Giants game looks a bit too high. None of the offensive stars are going to play meaningful minutes in this game and with very little in the way of competition for places in the skill positions, don't expect the scoreboard to light up in that one.

The 49ers have a new head coach and a competition for backup QB. That competition could be crucial as I have doubts over Brian Hoyer's ability to last 16 games. The Chiefs have bigger fish to fry than the 49ers in week one of preseason I'll be taking San Francisco +4

I enjoy them as an introduction to the season. You get to see some of the roster battles happening and there is no pressure in terms of results although I think it's always nice to win.

However, no real gameplanning, very basic schemes played in order to give nothing away for the regular season and no key players ever risked but it's a good taster after so long without ball.

New England's receiver Julian Edelman and Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware both get carried off in pre season games.

Suspected torn ACL for Edelman - that's the season gone if so. Ware wasn't putting weight on his either... It's my fault. I started writing up the opening match between the two teams last night. I cursed them.

Kareem Hunt is suddenly someone I will have to look at in the OROY market! I doubt they'll give the role to CJ Spiller.

And the beneficiary of Edelman? Hogan, Burkhead maybe, Amendola? (who may well have been released otherwise)

I had mentioned Hunt in my OROTY write up but more as side thought but if Ware is out any significant time then he definitely becomes a contender.

Edelman's injury is a tough break but the Pats are well equipped to survive it with Cooks, Hogan, Mitchell, Amendola and their collection of TE's and pass catching backs.

For most teams, losing a player like Edelman is a big thing. Every loss or dropped pass becomes a 'what if Edelman was fit' moment.

But not the Pats. It's very much a case of next man up with Bill Belichick.
