So a disappointing season comes to a end for Green Bay in which they lost the NFC north to Minnesota but it was a season that started off so well even without Jordy Nelson they still got off to a promising start going 6-0.Then the first loss came on the road to Denver followed by another road defeat to Carolina and they came in for a lot of criticism but i wasn't too down on them as they both road games to good teams who both could be in the superbowl this year. The really poor result was the home loss to Detroit after that was a home win against Minnesota then a 4 point loss to Chicago but then Green Bay went on a 3 game winning streak. At that point it looked like they would again win the NF north but the regular season ended with a huge defeat to Arizona and the last day defeat to Minnesota meant the Vikings won the division. The playoffs got off to the worst possible start going down 11-0 but it could of been a lot worse with Washington failing to score from the 1 yard line from 3 downs but Green Bay kept going and turned it round to come back and grab the win.Arizona was always going to be a tough game but when Randall Cobb left the game injured it got a lot harder with Green Bay missing their 4 starting wide receivers and lost the game by just 6 points.
Green Bay are making changes to their staff as they sack their running back coach and tight end coach but what will be more important to the Green Bay Packers next season will be the approach to this off season by Eddy Lacy.Because he cant afford to come back in worse condition then what he is now i am a fan of Lacy and i would hate to see him waste the talent he has by a lack of discipline during the so called off season he is a professional athlete and is well payed to look after himself .Running back is probably the most physical position in the nfl and it can be a very short career he needs to remember staying in the nfl can be just as hard as getting into it their will be a lot of rookies who are dreaming of taking his spot.
Great news for Green Bay fans as Eddie Lacy is apparently looking good and has lost weight which he definitely needed to do if he was going to have a decant nfl career and Jordy Nelson is back running routes. So 2 key offensive players back and hopefully better I can hear Vikings fans biting their finger nails already.
Green Bay have chosen to use their first round pick on UCLA DT Kenneth Clark he played a total of 37 games for them getting a total of 96 solo tackles and 63 assisted tackles he also 0 tackles for a loss and got 6.5 sacks and defended 6 passes. But his last season was definitely his best season playing 13 games getting 47 solo tackles and 26 assisted tackles 10.5 of them was for a loss and 5.5 sacks and 5 passes defended. So they now have added a good young DT to a young and talented secondary and it will be interesting to see what the Packers next move will be.
Green Bay will be looking to win the AFC North from the Vikings who picked WR Laquon Threadwell to help out Teddy Bridgewater and Stefon Diggs. And Threadwell did ok in his last year at college going for over 1000 yards with a total of 1153 yards and 11 touchdowns and he threw 3 passes completing 3 and getting a touchdown.
The Packers have used their second round pick on offensive lineman Jason Spriggs and he is a player with good durability as a 4 year starter he missed just 1 game from 47.It says on his scout report that strength is not his strong suit but in the run game he gets to the second level pretty well so if he starts and does well he might help Lacy get some big runs. And it is a area Green Bay did need to look at as towards the end of last season the offensive line was badly hit by injuries.
On the plus side it is said Jordy Nelson should be ready for week 1 but it is a concern that he now has a problam with his left knee but they are saying it is nothing to do with the torn acl in his right knee that kept him out of all of last season. And all Packer fans will be hoping the teams main threat will be ready as most people would agree he was badly missed from a offense that in general misfired for most of last season.
In Green Bays first preseason game they beat the Cleveland Browns 17-11 in which most of the starters did not appear but Eddie Lacy did make a short appearance carrying the ball 4 times for 6,3,11 and 4 for a average of 6.0 yards a carry but that is not important what is important is that he has definitely lost weight from a disappointing year last year.Slightly disappointing news is that wr Jeff Janis has a fracture in his hand and will miss at least most of the preseason and he will have hard work getting back into the lineup as the Packers also had good news as Ty Montgomery was on the pitch and was targeted 3 times catching 1 for 7 yards.I thought the 3rd round draft pick was quite impressive last year before injury forced him out as he caught 15 receptions for 136 yards at a average of 9.1 scoring 2 touchdowns from 6 games and it was good to see him back.Qb Joe Callahan also deserves a mention with numbers of 16/23 for 124 yards for 1 touchdown and no interceptions with a rating of 97 nothing special but a good solid performance.
