Am watching E's "LIve from the Red Carpet' coverage and yes, the speculation from one of the hosts who, inevitably heard it from a friend of a friend, believes that the 'special guest' sitting between Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabillo will be, worst kept secret if true, Taylor Swift.

EDIT: She's there as she's walking the red carpet.

WIll suggest just trawling through very quickly as to the history, back to 2011, that if you're nominated for 'Top Artist' & are the sole female/male/new artist/duo-group nominee then yes, you will win the corresponding category seems very true.

Lil Wayne in 2012. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Bill ... sic_Awards
Justin Bieber & One Direction in 2013. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Bill ... sic_Awards
Imagine Dragons in 2014. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Bill ... sic_Awards
One Direction & Sam Smith in 2015. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Bill ... sic_Awards

It makes the 11/10 on offer on Taylor Swift to win 'Top Female Artist' either very silly in that it was a guaranteed win or an absolute sucker bet if she loses.

Khalid wins 'Top New Artist'! Damn it. I didn't chance my arm at the 6/1 available.

Following this on-and-off and there's been nothing of note really other than a lot of performances, and more importantly for us any relevance to betting, has happened in the last 90 minutes or so at the BMAs. They're calling themselves BBMAs?

https://twitter.com/BBMAs

I have no idea how that works other than the likes of Better Medicare Alliance/British Medical Association got there first with BMA (there's no @BMA account on Twitter though!). I should have just done the sensible thing and go to bed but mercifully, I think we're heading into the last hour though.

Bruno Mars turned up...to present the Icon award to Janet Jackson.

https://twitter.com/BBMAs/status/998430 ... 91841?s=19

Ed Sheeran wins Top Artist and Top Male Artist.

https://twitter.com/BBMAs/status/998403 ... 55392?s=19

I was more-or-less absolutely correct but likely knew that if it had been Kendrick Lamar performing by video link then he might have been the winner instead.

Seems rude to invite Bruno Mars and then effectively snub him by not conveniently give something to someone who could be bothered to turn up in person but that might show the integrity of their statistics that Ed Sheeran was indeed the genuine winner. Crazy metrics but I was on the right side of history for once!

Also, Taylor Swift was in the house as well...did she volunteer not to win Top Artist just so social media couldn't have another go at her for being 'too successful'!? Integrity of the BMAs, eh!?

She's getting slated for beating Cardi B to Top Female Artist anyway but as sagand explained, Cardi B fans shouldn't be complaining as Taylor's win was guaranteed. Will that statistic ever be broken!? No idea.

Did they confuse Cardi B with Azealia Banks!? Why the cold shoulder!? Cardi B is pregnant and couldn't make it could be a reason but she has kind of cited 'too many commitments'.

No idea how Khalid won Top New Artist to be honest as Camila Cabello gets fobbed off with the Chart Achievement award thanks to *COUGH* online voting.

It's one of those days where somehow I got it mostly right and I don't get enough of them...I get plenty where I get it completely wrong though!

Yeah, you were probably right their metrics had Sheeran the winner so they had to make sure he was involved some how, if Lamar had been the winner they would have done the same for him. It was probably radio play the major difference. Plenty of stations would never play Lamar but will hammer Sheeran until the end of time. Sheeran was almost as good a result for me so I can't complain.

I did put one last minute bet on Khalid for New Artist, (his album sold more than double Cardi B's and had the bigger hit with Location > Bodak Yellow). I wished I'd looked that up earlier.

Overall a successful night helped by the crazy odds setting on Taylor Swift making everything else virtually risk free.

Eff me. Look at these two links...William Hill very likely didn't and I certainly definitely didn't! I think I did well using sheer lucky guesswork from looking at stories on the likes of Variety and Forbes!

https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-e ... ew-artists

They had a list of the top ten 'Top New Artists' of 2017!? Khalid at 2, Kodak Black at 4, 21 Savage at 5, Cardi B at 7 and Camila Cabello wasn't in the top ten!

Didn't even need all that palaver of album sales, who got the most radio airplay, streaming, downloads, social media interaction or who topped the Hot 100 list!

They also had a list of the top ten 'Top Artists' of 2017. Ed Sheeran at 1, Bruno Mars at 2, Drake at 3, Kendrick Lamar at 4 and Taylor Swift at...25!?

https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-e ... op-artists

No idea what William Hill's liabilities were but wow, no thinking required with only the fear that these lists were meaningless and they just went crazy giving them out willy-nilly unrelated to their metrics. Not so much gambling but just giving money away!
